¹⁵ Others said, "He is Elijah." But others said, "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets."

⁵ And, behold, I will send to you Elijah the Tishbite, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes;

¹⁴ So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others say Elijah, and yet others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

¹⁰ And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" ¹¹ Jesus answered and said to them, " Elijah truly does come first, and shall restore all things.

¹¹ And the crowds were saying, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."

²⁸ So they answered, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets."

¹² And answering He said to them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt? ¹³ But I say to you that indeed Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written concerning him."

³⁵ Some of those standing by when they heard, said, "Look, He is calling Elijah." ³⁶ And one, running and having filled a sponge with vinegar, and having put it around a reed, was giving a drink to Him, saying, "Leave Him alone; let us see if Elijah is coming to take Him down."

¹⁷ And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

¹⁶ Then fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying, "A great prophet has risen up among us"; and, "God has visited His people."

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what sort of woman this is who touches Him, for she is a sinner."

⁸ and by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had arisen.

¹⁹ So they answered and said, "John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the ancient prophets has arisen."

²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

²⁵ And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

¹⁴ Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."

⁴⁰ Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."

¹⁷ They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."

²² For Moses said to the fathers, 'The LORD our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. ²³ 'And it shall be that every person who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'
