¹³ They gape upon me with their mouth,
[As] a ravening and a roaring lion.

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth;
They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully:
They gather themselves together against me.

² Lest they tear my soul like a lion,
Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,
And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying],

²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.

¹⁷ Lord, how long wilt thou look on?
Rescue my soul from their destructions,
My darling from the lions.

²¹ Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me;
They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.

¹⁶ All thine enemies have opened their mouth wide against thee;
They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up;
Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

⁴⁶ All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

²⁷ Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, [and] to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed for them with untempered [mortar], seeing false visions, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, when Jehovah hath not spoken.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas; ⁴ and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; ⁶⁰ and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two, ⁶¹ and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. ⁶² And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? ⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. ⁶⁵ Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard the blasphemy:

⁸ Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,
