⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

⁸ And Moses said, [This shall be], when Jehovah shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that Jehovah heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah.

¹⁵ And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is it? for they knew not what it was. And Moses said unto them, It is the bread which Jehovah hath given you to eat.

³⁵ And the children of Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat the manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

¹⁵ The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep: seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, at the time appointed in the month Abib (for in it thou camest out from Egypt); and none shall appear before me empty:

³ And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.

¹² And she said, As Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. ¹³ And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it forth unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son. ¹⁴ For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sendeth rain upon the earth. ¹⁵ And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days. ¹⁶ The jar of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by Elijah.

⁴² And there came a man from Baal-shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat. ⁴³ And his servant said, What, should I set this before a hundred men? But he said, Give the people, that they may eat; for thus saith Jehovah, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof. ⁴⁴ So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of Jehovah.

¹ And Elisha said, Hear ye the word of Jehovah: thus saith Jehovah, To-morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be [sold] for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. ² Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if Jehovah should make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

¹⁶ Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty [measures], there were but ten; when one came to the winevat to draw out fifty [vessels], there were but twenty. ¹⁷ I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands; yet ye [turned] not to me, saith Jehovah. ¹⁸ Consider, I pray you, from this day and backward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth [month], since the day that the foundation of Jehovah's temple was laid, consider it. ¹⁹ Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-tree have not brought forth; from this day will I bless [you].

⁹ Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough [to receive it]. ¹¹ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts.

⁷ Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.

¹⁰ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

¹⁶ But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away; give ye them to eat. ¹⁷ And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. ¹⁸ And he said, Bring them hither to me. ¹⁹ And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. ²⁰ And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. ²¹ And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

³⁸ And he saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go [and] see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. ³⁹ And he commanded them that all should sit down by companies upon the green grass. ⁴⁰ And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. ⁴¹ And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves; and he gave to the disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. ⁴² And they all ate, and were filled. ⁴³ And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and also of the fishes. ⁴⁴ And they that ate the loaves were five thousand men.

⁴ And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to fill these men with bread here in a desert place? ⁵ And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. ⁶ And he commandeth the multitude to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. ⁷ And they had a few small fishes: and having blessed them, he commanded to set these also before them. ⁸ And they ate, and were filled: and they took up, of broken pieces that remained over, seven baskets. ⁹ And they were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

⁵ Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence are we to buy bread, that these may eat? ⁶ And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings' worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little. ⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, ⁹ There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many? ¹⁰ Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. ¹¹ Jesus therefore took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to them that were set down; likewise also of the fishes as much as they would. ¹² And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost. ¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten. ¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.
¹⁵ Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat. ³² Jesus therefore said unto them, { Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world.} ³⁴ They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. ³⁵ Jesus said unto them, { I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not. ³⁷ All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. ³⁸ For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.}
⁴¹ The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven. ⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven? ⁴³ Jesus answered and said unto them, { Murmur not among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me. ⁴⁶ Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth hath eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.}
⁵² The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Jesus therefore said unto them, { Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves. ⁵⁴ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever.} ⁵⁹ These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

⁶³ It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.

⁴ For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.

¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
