¹ In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword,
And my hand take hold on judgment;
I will render vengeance to mine adversaries,
And will recompense them that hate me. ⁴² I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,
And my sword shall devour flesh;
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the head of the leaders of the enemy.

⁸ Let them curse it that curse the day,
Who are ready to rouse up leviathan.

¹ Then Job answered and said, ² No doubt but ye are the people,
And wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you:
Yea, who knoweth not such things as these? ⁴ I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbor,
I who called upon God, and he answered:
The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock. ⁵ In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune;
It is ready for them whose foot slippeth. ⁶ The tents of robbers prosper,
And they that provoke God are secure;
Into whose hand God bringeth [abundantly].
⁷ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee;
And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell thee: ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee;
And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. ⁹ Who knoweth not in all these,
That the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this, ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing,
And the breath of all mankind? ¹¹ Doth not the ear try words,
Even as the palate tasteth its food? ¹² With aged men is wisdom,
And in length of days understanding.
¹³ With [God] is wisdom and might;
He hath counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again;
He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up;
Again, he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom;
The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leadeth counsellors away stripped,
And judges maketh he fools. ¹⁸ He looseth the bond of kings,
And he bindeth their loins with a girdle. ¹⁹ He leadeth priests away stripped,
And overthroweth the mighty. ²⁰ He removeth the speech of the trusty,
And taketh away the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He poureth contempt upon princes,
And looseth the belt of the strong. ²² He uncovereth deep things out of darkness,
And bringeth out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increaseth the nations, and he destroyeth them:
He enlargeth the nations, and he leadeth them captive. ²⁴ He taketh away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth,
And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light;
And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

¹³ By his Spirit the heavens are garnished;
His hand hath pierced the swift serpent.

¹⁹ He is the chief of the ways of God:
He [only] that made him giveth him his sword.

³ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one,
Thy glory and thy majesty.

¹³ Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength:
Thou brakest the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters. ¹⁴ Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces;
Thou gavest him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

²⁶ There go the ships;
There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play therein.

²¹ For, behold, Jehovah cometh forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

⁵ For my sword hath drunk its fill in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. ⁶ The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Jehovah hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster?

²⁵ The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith Jehovah.

¹⁶ For by fire will Jehovah execute judgment, and by his sword, upon all flesh; and the slain of Jehovah shall be many.

⁶ O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.

¹³ O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out.

³ speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lieth in the midst of his rivers, that hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.

² Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou wast likened unto a young lion of the nations: yet art thou as a monster in the seas; and thou didst break forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. ³ Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will spread out my net upon thee with a company of many peoples; and they shall bring thee up in my net. ⁴ And I will leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon thee, and I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with thee. ⁵ And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.

¹⁶ Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.

³ And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads seven diadems.

⁴ and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? and who is able to war with him?

¹¹ And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

¹³ And I saw [coming] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as it were frogs:

¹ And there came one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls, and spake with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the judgment of the great harlot that sitteth upon many waters;

¹⁵ And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

²¹ and the rest were killed with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, [even the sword] which came forth out of his mouth: and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
