¹ The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

²³ And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. ²⁴ And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.

⁵ the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them.

³ it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus;

²⁴ And after these days Elisabeth his wife conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying,

²³ And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli,

²¹ In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and on many that were blind he bestowed sight. ²² And he answered and said unto them, { Go and tell John the things which ye have seen and heard; the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good tidings preached to them. ²³ And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.}

¹⁹ And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

³² Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from the Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? ³³ The Jews answered him, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. ³⁴ Jesus answered them, { Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? ³⁵ If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken), ³⁶ say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am [the] Son of God? ³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. ³⁸ But if I do them, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.}

¹⁹ The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his teaching. ²⁰ Jesus answered him, { I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. ²¹ Why askest thou me? ask them that have heard [me], what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said.}

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;

²¹ For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: ²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:
