²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

³⁸ And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me. ³⁹ He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.

²² Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be to you. ²³ But he turned, and said to Peter, Get you behind me, Satan: you are an offense to me: for you mind not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. ²⁴ Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ²⁵ For whoever will save his life shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

²⁶ If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

²⁵ He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal. ²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.

¹³ For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

³⁰ And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? ³¹ I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our LORD, I die daily.

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are on the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

¹² Yes, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
