⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

⁴ The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

⁶ The LORD kills, and makes alive: he brings down to the grave, and brings up. ⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he has set the world on them.

¹¹ To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety. ¹² He disappoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the fraudulent is carried headlong.

²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead. ²⁵ Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others; ²⁷ Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways: ²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way. ⁴¹ Yet sets he the poor on high from affliction, and makes him families like a flock.

⁶ Who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! ⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

¹⁴ For out of prison he comes to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becomes poor.

²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

¹¹ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
