¹⁶ And one of you say to them, Depart in peace, be you warmed and filled; notwithstanding you give them not those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?

⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelled in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

²⁷ Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. ²⁸ Say not to your neighbor, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when you have it by you.

¹⁵ And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. ¹⁶ But Jesus said to them, They need not depart; give you them to eat.

³² Then Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

⁴² For I was an hungered, and you gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink: ⁴³ I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and you visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you an hungered, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you? ⁴⁵ Then shall he answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; hold to that which is good.

⁸ I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

¹⁶ Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
