³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And David made a covenant with them in Hebron before LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of LORD by Samuel.

And LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

¹⁸ And those two made a covenant before LORD. And David abode in the forest, and Jonathan went to his house.

¹⁷ And LORD has done to thee, as he spoke by me. And LORD has torn the kingdom out of thy hand, and given it to thy neighbor, even to David.

⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were those who buried Saul.
