  1 G1096 And it came to pass G1161   G1722 in G3588   G2540 that time G1565   G* Hezekiah was infirm G3119.1   G2193 unto G2288 death. G2532 And G2064 there came G4314 to G1473 him G* Isaiah G5207 son G* of Amoz G3588 the G4396 prophet; G2532 and G2036 he said G4314 to G1473 him, G3592 Thus G3004 says G2962 the lord, G5021 Give orders G4012 concerning G3588   G3624 your house! G1473   G599 [3die G1063   G1063 1for G1473 2you], G2532 and G3756 shall not G2198 live.

  3 G3004 saying, G3403 Remember, G2962 O lord, G5613 as G4198 I was gone G1799 before G1473 you G3326 with G225 truth, G1722 in G2588 [2heart G228 1a true], G2532 and G3588 the things G701 pleasing G1799 before G1473 you G4160 I did.   4 G2532 And G1096 [3came G3056 1 the word G2962 2 of the lord] G4314 to G* Isaiah, G3004 saying,
  5 G4198 Go, G2532 and G2036 say G* to Hezekiah, G3592 Thus G3004 says G2962 the lord, G3588 the G2316 God G* of David G3588   G3962 your father; G1473   G191 I heard G3588   G4335 your prayer, G1473   G2532 and G1492 beheld G3588   G1144 your tears. G1473   G2400 Behold, G4369 I add G4314 to G3588   G5550 your time G1473   G1178 fifteen G2094 years.
  6 G2532 And G1537 from out of G5495 the hand G935 of the king G* of the Assyrians G4506 I shall rescue G1473 you, G2532 and G3588   G4172 this city; G3778   G2532 and G5231.3 I shall shield G5228 over G3588   G4172 this city. G3778
  7 G3778 And this G1161   G1473 [3to you G3588 1 is the G4592 2sign] G3844 from G2962 the lord, G3754 that G4160 [2will do G3588   G2316 1God] G3588   G4487 this thing G3778   G3739 which G2980 he said.
  8 G2400 Behold, G1473 I G4762 shall turn G3588 the G4639 shadow G3588 of the G304 stairs G3739 which G2597 [3went down G3588 4the G1176 5ten G304 6stairs G3588 7of the G3624 8house G3588   G3962 9of your father G1473   G3588 1the G2246 2sun]. G654 I will return G3588 the G2246 sun G3588 the G1176 ten G304 stairs G3739 which G2597 [3went down G3588 1the G4639 2shadow].
  9 G4335 The prayer G* of Hezekiah G935 king G3588   G* of Judea G2259 when G3119.1 he was infirm G2532 and G450 he rose up G1537 from G3588   G3119 his infirmity. G1473
  10 G1473 I G2036 said G1722 in G3588 the G5311 height G3588   G2250 of my days, G1473   G4198 I shall go G1722 to G4439 the gates G86 of Hades; G2641 I shall forsake G3588 the G2094 years G3588   G1954 remaining.

  12 G1587 I failed G4772 my kin; G1473   G2641 I forsook G3588 the G3062 rest G3588   G2222 of my life; G1473   G1831 it departed G2532 and G565 went forth G575 from G1473 me G5618 as G3588 the one G2647 resting up G4633 [2a tent G4078 1pitching]. G3588   G4151 My spirit G1473   G3844 in G1473 me G1096 became G5613 as G2477.1 the web G2052.1 of one working in wool G1448 approaching G1615.1 to cut it off.
  13 G1722 In G3588   G2250 that day G1565   G3860 I was delivered over G2193 until G4404 morning. G5613 As G3023 a lion G3779 so G4937 he broke G3956 all G3588   G3747 my bones. G1473   G575 For from G1063   G3588 the G2250 day G2193 until G3588 the G3571 night G3860 I was delivered over.
  14 G5613 As G5501.1 a swallow, G3779 so G5455 shall I call out, G2532 and G5613 as G4058 a dove, G3779 so G3191 shall I meditate. G1587 [4failed G1063 1For G1473 2my G3588   G3788 3eyes] G3588   G991 to see G1519 into G3588 the G5311 height G3588 of the G3772 heaven, G4314 to G3588 the G2962 lord G3739 who G1807 rescued G1473 me.
  15 G2532 And G851 he removed G1473 [3of my G3588 1the G3601 2grief] G3588   G5590 soul, G2532 and G1473 he G4160 acted.

  20 G2962 O lord G3588   G4991 of my deliverance; G1473   G2532 even G3756 I will not G3973 cease G2127 blessing G1473 you G3326 with G5568.1 the psaltery G3956 all G3588 the G2250 days G3588   G2222 of my life, G1473   G2713 before G3588 the G3624 house G3588   G2316 of God.
  21 G2532 And G* Isaiah said G2036   G4314 to G* Hezekiah, G2983 Take G3818.1 a dried cluster G4810 of figs, G2532 and G5147.1 grind them, G2532 and G2667.2 plaster with it, G2532 and G5199 [2in health G1510.8.2 1you will be].

  1 H3117 In those days H2396 was Hezekiah H2470 [H8804] sick H4191 [H8800] and near death H3470 . And Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 the son H531 of Amoz H935 [H8799] came H559 [H8799] to him, and said H559 [H8804] to him, Thus saith H3068 the LORD H1004 , Set thy house H6680 [H8761] in order H4191 [H8801] : for thou shalt die H2421 [H8799] , and not live.
  2 H2396 Then Hezekiah H5437 [H8686] turned H6440 his face H7023 toward the wall H6419 [H8691] , and prayed H3068 to the LORD,
  3 H559 [H8799] And said H2142 [H8798] , Remember H3068 now, O LORD H577 , I beseech H1980 [H8694] thee, how I have walked H6440 before H571 thee in truth H8003 and with a perfect H3820 heart H6213 [H8804] , and have done H2896 that which is good H5869 in thy sight H2396 . And Hezekiah H1058 H1065 [H8799] wept H1419 bitterly.
  4 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H3470 to Isaiah H559 [H8800] , saying,
  5 H1980 [H8800] Go H559 [H8804] , and say H2396 to Hezekiah H559 [H8804] , Thus saith H3068 the LORD H430 , the God H1732 of David H1 thy father H8085 [H8804] , I have heard H8605 thy prayer H7200 [H8804] , I have seen H1832 thy tears H3254 [H8802] : behold, I will add H3117 to thy days H2568 H6240 fifteen H8141 years.
6 H5337 [H8686] And I will deliver H5892 thee and this city H3709 from the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria H1598 [H8804] : and I will defend H5892 this city.
  7 H226 And this shall be a sign H3068 to thee from the LORD H3068 , that the LORD H6213 [H8799] will do H1697 this thing H1696 [H8765] that he hath spoken;
  8 H7725 [H8688] Behold, I will bring again H6738 the shadow H4609 of the degrees H3381 [H8804] , which hath gone down H8121 on the sun H4609 dial H271 of Ahaz H6235 , ten H4609 degrees H322 backward H8121 . So the sun H7725 [H8799] returned H6235 ten H4609 degrees H4609 , by which degrees H3381 [H8804] it had gone down.
9 H4385 The writing H2396 of Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H2470 [H8800] , when he had been sick H2421 [H8799] , and had recovered H2483 from his sickness:
  10 H559 [H8804] I said H1824 in the cutting off H3117 of my days H3212 [H8799] , I shall go H8179 to the gates H7585 of the grave H6485 [H8795] : I am deprived H3499 of the rest H8141 of my years.
  11 H559 [H8804] I said H7200 [H8799] , I shall not see H3050 the LORD H3050 , even the LORD H776 , in the land H2416 of the living H5027 [H8686] : I shall behold H120 man H3427 [H8802] no more with the inhabitants H2309 of the world.
  12 H1755 My age H5265 [H8738] hath departed H1540 [H8738] , and is removed H7473 from me as a shepherd's H168 tent H7088 [H8765] : I have cut off H707 [H8802] like a weaver H2416 my life H1214 [H8762] : he will cut me off H1803 with pining sickness H3117 : from day H3915 even to night H7999 [H8686] wilt thou make an end of me.
  13 H7737 [H8765] I reckoned H1242 till morning H738 , that, as a lion H7665 [H8762] , so will he break H6106 all my bones H3117 : from day H3915 even to night H7999 [H8686] wilt thou make an end of me.
  14 H5483 Like a crane H5693 or a swallow H6850 [H8770] , so I chattered H1897 [H8799] : I mourned H3123 as a dove H5869 : my eyes H1809 [H8804] fail H4791 with looking upward H3068 : O LORD H6234 , I am oppressed H6148 [H8798] ; undertake for me.
15 H1696 [H8762] What shall I say H559 [H8804] ? he hath both spoken H6213 [H8804] to me, and himself hath done H1718 [H8691] it: I shall go softly H8141 all my years H4751 in the bitterness H5315 of my soul.
16 H136 O Lord H2421 [H8799] , by these things men live H2416 , and in all these things is the life H7307 of my spirit H2492 [H8686] : so wilt thou restore H2421 [H8685] me, and make me to live.
17 H7965 Behold, for peace H4751 H4843 [H8804] I had great bitterness H2836 [H8804] : but thou hast in love H5315 to my soul H7845 delivered it from the pit H1097 of corruption H7993 [H8689] : for thou hast cast H2399 all my sins H310 behind H1460 thy back.
18 H7585 For the grave H3034 [H8686] cannot praise H4194 thee, death H1984 [H8762] can not celebrate H3381 [H8802] thee: they that go down H953 into the pit H7663 [H8762] cannot hope H571 for thy truth.
  19 H2416 The living H2416 , the living H3034 [H8686] , he shall praise H3117 thee, as I do this day H1 : the father H1121 to the children H3045 [H8686] shall make known H571 thy truth.
20 H3068 The LORD H3467 [H8687] was ready to save H5058 me: therefore we will sing my songs H5059 [H8762] to the stringed instruments H3117 all the days H2416 of our life H1004 in the house H3068 of the LORD.
  21 H3470 For Isaiah H559 [H8799] had said H5375 [H8799] , Let them take H1690 a lump H8384 of figs H4799 [H8799] , and lay it for a plaster H7822 upon the boil H2421 [H8799] , and he shall recover.
22 H2396 Hezekiah H559 [H8799] also had said H226 , What is the sign H5927 [H8799] that I shall go up H1004 to the house H3068 of the LORD?

Recogitabo tibi omnes annos meos in amaritudine animæ meæ.
Wycliffe(i) 1 In tho daies Esechie was sijk `til to the deth; and Isaie, the profete, the sone of Amos, entride to hym, and seide to hym, The Lord seith these thingis, Dispose thi hous, for thou schalt die, and thou schalt not lyue. 2 And Esechie turnede his face to the wal, and preiede the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche; 3 haue thou mynde, Y biseche, hou Y yede bifore thee in treuthe, and in perfit herte, and Y dide that that was good bifore thin iyen. And Ezechye wept with greet wepyng. 4 And the word of the Lord was maad to Isaie, and seide, 5 Go thou, and seie to Ezechye, The Lord God of Dauid, thi fadir, seith these thingis, I haue herd thi preier, and Y siy thi teeris. Lo! Y schal adde on thi daies fiftene yeer; 6 and Y schal delyuere thee and this citee fro the hond of the kyng of Assiriens, and Y schal defende it. 7 Forsothe this schal be to thee a signe of the Lord, that the Lord schal do this word, which he spak. 8 Lo! Y schal make the schadewe of lynes, bi which it yede doun in the orologie of Achas, in the sunne, to turne ayen backward bi ten lynes. And the sunne turnede ayen bi ten lynes, bi degrees bi whiche it hadde go doun. 9 The scripture of Ezechie, kyng of Juda, whanne he hadde be sijk, and hadde rekyuered of his sikenesse. 10 I seide, in the myddil of my daies Y schal go to the yatis of helle. 11 Y souyte the residue of my yeeris; Y seide, Y schal not se the Lord God in the lond of lyueris; Y schal no more biholde a man, and a dwellere of reste. 12 My generacioun is takun awei, and is foldid togidere fro me, as the tabernacle of scheepherdis is foldid togidere. Mi lijf is kit doun as of a webbe; he kittide doun me, the while Y was wouun yit. Fro the morewtid `til to the euentid thou schalt ende me; 13 Y hopide til to the morewtid; as a lioun, so he al to-brak alle my boonys. Fro the morewtid til to the euentid thou schalt ende me; as the brid of a swalewe, so Y schal crie; 14 Y schal bithenke as a culuer. Myn iyen biholdynge an hiy, ben maad feble. Lord, Y suffre violence, answere thou for me; what schal Y seie, 15 ether what schal answere to me, whanne `I mysilf haue do? Y schal bithenke to thee alle my yeeris, in the bitternisse of my soule. 16 Lord, if me lyueth so, and the lijf of my spirit is in siche thingis, thou schalt chastise me, and schalt quykene me. 17 Lo! my bitternesse is moost bittir in pees; forsothe thou hast delyuered my soule, that it perischide not; thou hast caste awey bihynde thi bak alle my synnes. 18 For not helle schal knowleche to thee, nethir deth schal herie thee; thei that goon doun in to the lake, schulen not abide thi treuthe. 19 A lyuynge man, a lyuynge man, he schal knouleche to thee, as and Y to dai; the fadir schal make knowun thi treuthe to sones. 20 Lord, make thou me saaf, and we schulen synge oure salmes in all the daies of oure lijf in the hous of the Lord. 21 And Ysaie comaundide, that thei schulden take a gobet of figus, and make a plaster on the wounde; and it schulde be heelid. 22 And Ezechie seide, What signe schal be, that Y schal stie in to the hous of the Lord?
Coverdale(i) 1 Not longe afore this, was Ezechias deadsick: And the prophet Esay the sonne of Amos came vnto him, and sayde: Thus commaundeth the LORDE: Set thyne house in ordre, for thou must dye, and shalt not escape. 2 Then Ezechias turned his face towarde the wall, & prayed vnto the LORDE, 3 and sayde: Remembre (o LORDE) that I haue walked before the in treuth and a stedfast hert, and haue done the thinge that is pleasaunt to the. And Ezechias wepte sore. 4 The sayde God vnto Esay: 5 Go and speake vnto Ezechias: The LORDE God of Dauid thy father sendeth ye this worde: I haue herde thy prayer, and considred thy teares: beholde, I will put xv yeares mo vnto thy life, 6 and delyuer the and the citie also, from the honde of the kinge of Assiria, for I will defende the cite. 7 And take the this token of the LORDE, yt he will do it, as he hath spoken: 8 Beholde, I will returne the shadowe of Achas Diall, yt now is layed out with the Sonne, and bringe it ten degrees bacward. So the Sonne turned ten degrees bacward, the which he was descended afore. 9 A thankesgeuynge, which Ezechias kinge of Iuda wrote, when he had bene sicke, & was recouered. 10 I thought I shulde haue gone to the gates of hell in my best age, and haue wanted the residue of my yeares. 11 I spake within my self: I shal neuer viset the LORDE God in this life: I shal neuer se man, amonge the dwellers of the worlde 12 Myne age is folden vp together and taken awaye fro me, like a sheperdes cotage: my lyfe is hewen of, like as a weeuer cutteth of his webb. Whyl I was yet takinge my rest, he hewed me of, & made an ende of me in one daie. 13 I thought I wolde haue lyued vnto the morow, but he brussed my bones like a lyon, and made an ende of me in one daye. 14 Then chatred I like a swalowe, and like a Crane, and mourned as a doue. I lift vp myne eyes in to ye hight: O LORDE, (sayde I) violence is done vnto me, be thou suertie for me. 15 What shal I speake or say, ethat he maye this doo? yt I maye lyue out all my yeares, yee in the bytternesse of my life? 16 Verely (LORDE,) men must lyue in bytternesse, & all my life must I passe ouer therin: For thou raysest me vp, and wakest me. But lo, I wilbe wel content with this bytternes. 17 Neuertheles my couersacion hath so pleased ye, that thou woldest not make an ende of my life, so that thou hast cast all my synnes behynde thy backe. 18 For hell prayseth not the, death doth not magnifie the. They that go downe into the graue, prayse not thy treuth: 19 but the lyuynge, yee the lyuynge acknowlege the, like as I do this daye. The father telleth his children of thy faithfulnesse. 20 Delyuer vs (o LORDE) and we wil synge prayses in thy house, all the dayes of oure life. 21 And Esay sayde: take a playster offyges, and laye it vpon the sore, so shal it be whole. 22 Then saide Ezechias: O what a greate thinge is this, that I shal go vp in to the house of the LORDE.
MSTC(i) 1 Not long afore this, was Hezekiah sick unto death: And the Prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came unto him, and said, "Thus commandeth the LORD, 'Set thine house in order: for thou must die, and shall not escape. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, 3 and said, "Remember, O LORD, that I have walked before thee in truth and a steadfast heart, and have done the thing that is pleasant to thee." And Hezekiah wept sore. 4 Then said God unto Isaiah, 5 "Go and speak unto Hezekiah: The LORD God of David thy father sendeth thee this word, 'I have heard thy prayer, and considered thy tears: behold, I will put fifteen years more unto thy life, 6 and deliver thee and the city also, from the hand of the king of Assyria, for I will defend the city. 7 And take thee this token of the LORD, that he will do it, as he hath spoken: 8 Behold, I will return the shadow of Ahaz's dial, that now is laid out with the Sun, and bring it ten degrees backward.'" So the Sun turned ten degrees backward, the which he was desended afore. 9 A thanksgiving, which Hezekiah king of Judah wrote, when he had been sick, and was recovered. 10 "I thought I should have gone to the gates of hell in my best age, and have wanted the residue of my years. 11 I spake within myself, 'I shall never visit the LORD God in this life: I shall never see man among the dwellers of the world. 12 Mine age is folden up together, and taken away from me, like a shepherd's cottage: my life is hewn off, like as a weaver cutteth off his web. While I was yet taking my rest, he hewed me off, and made an end of me in one day.' 13 I thought I would have lived unto the morrow, but he bruised my bones like a lion, and made an end of me in one day. 14 Then chattered I like a swallow, and like a crane, and mourned as a dove. I lift up mine eyes to the height: 'O LORD,' say I, 'violence is done unto me, be thou surety for me.' 15 What shall I say? The Lord hath made a promise to me. Yea, and he himself hath performed it. I shall therefore, as long as I live, remember bitterness of my life. 16 O LORD, men may live beyond their years, and I will declare to all men that even in those years, it was thou that causedest me to sleep, and again thou hast given me life. 17 Behold, bitter as gall was my pensiveness: so sore longed I for health. And it was thy pleasure to deliver me from the filthy pit: for thou it is, O Lord, that hath cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For hell praiseth not thee, death doth not magnify thee. They that go down into the grave, praise not thy truth: 19 but the living, yea the living acknowledge thee, like as I do this day. The father telleth his children of thy faithfulness. 20 Deliver us, O LORD, and we will sing praises in thy house, all the days of our life." 21 And Isaiah said, "Take a plaster of figs, and lay it upon the sore, so shall it be whole." 22 Then said Hezekiah, "O what a great thing is this, that I shall go up in to the house of the LORD."

So the Sunne turned ten degree backward, the which he was descended a fore. 9 A thanckesgeuynge, whiche Hezekiah Kynge of Iuda wrote, when he had bene sycke, and was recouered. 10 I thought I shulde haue gone to the gates of hell in my best age, and haue wanted the resydue of my yeares. 11 I spake with in my selfe: I shall neuer viset the Lorde God in this lyfe: I shall neuer se man amonge the dwellers of the worlde. 12 Myne age is folden vp together, and taken awaye fro me, lyke a shepherdes cotage: my lyfe is hewen of, lyke as a weeuer cutteth of his webb. I lyfte vp myne eyes into the heyght: O Lorde (sayde I) vyolence is done vnto me, be thou suertye for me. 15 What shall I speake or saye, that he may this do? That I may lyue out all my yeares, yee in the bytternesse of my lyfe? 16 Verely (Lorde) men must lyue in bytternesse, & all my life muste I passe ouer therin: For thou raysest me vp, and wakest me. But lo, I wyllbe well content with this bytternes. 17 Neuertheles my conuersacyon hath so pleased the, that thou woldest not make an ende of my lyfe: so that thou hast cast all my synnes behynde thy back. 18 For hell prayseth not the, death doth not magnyfye the. They that go downe into the graue, prayse not thy trueth: 19 but the lyuyng, yee the liuinge acknowledge the, lyke as I do thys daye. The father telleth hys chyldren of thy faythfulnesse. 20 Delyuer vs (O Lorde) and we wyll singe prayses in thy house, all the dayes of oure life. 21 And Esay sayde: take a playster of fygges, and laye it vpon the sore, so shall it be whole. 22 Then sayd Hezekiah: O what a great thinge is this, that I shall go vp into the house of the Lorde.

So the Sunne turned ten degrees backwarde, the which he was descended afore. 9 A thanckesgeuynge, which Hezekia Kynge of Iuda wrote, when he had bene sycke, and was recouered. 10 I thought I shulde haue gone to the gates of hell when myne age was shortened, and haue wanted the resydue of my yeares. 11 I spake within my selfe: I shall neuer viset the Lorde (the Lord I saye) in thys lyfe. I shal neuer se man among the dwellers of the worlde. 12 Myne age is folden vp together, & taken awaye fro me, lyke a shepherdes cotage: I haue hewen of my lyfe by my synnes, lyke as a weeuer cutteth of hys webb. He wyll with pyninge sycknesse make an ende of me: yee, he wyll make en ende of me in one daye. 13 I thought I wolde haue lyued vnto the morowe, but he brosed my bones lyke a lyon, and in one daye thou wilt make an ende of me. 14 Then chatred I lyke a swalowe, and lyke a crane, and mourned as a doue. I lyfte vp myne eyes into the heygth: O Lorde (sayde I) my sycknes kepeth me downe: ease thou me. 15 What shall I saye? The Lorde hath made a promise to me. Yee, and he him selfe hath perfourmed it. I shall therfore as longe as I lyue remembre thys bitternes of my lyfe. 16 O Lorde men maye lyue beyond theyr yeares, and I wyll declare to all men: that euen in those yeres I haue a ioyfull lyfe, and that it was thou that causedest me to sleape and agayne thou hast geuen lyfe to me. 17 Beholde bytter as gall was my pensyuenesse, so sore longed I for helth. And it was thy pleasure to deliuer my lyfe, from the fylthye pytt, for thou it is (O Lorde) that hast cast all my synnes behynde thy backe. 18 For hell prayseth not the, death doth not magnifye the. They that go downe into the graue prayse not thy trueth: 19 but the lyuinge, yee, the lyuing a knowledge the, lyke as I do thys daye. And Ezechias wept with great weeping. 4 And the word of the Lord came to Isaias, saying: 5 Go and say to Ezechias: Thus saith the Lord the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, and I have seen thy tears: behold I will add to thy days fifteen years: 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will protect it. 7 And this shall be a sign to thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this word which he hath spoken: 8 Behold I will bring again the shadow of the lines, by which it is now gone down in the sun dial of Achaz with the sun, ten lines backward. Hell... Sheol, or Hades, the region of the dead. 11 I said: I shall not see the Lord God in the land of the living. I shall behold man no more, nor the inhabitant of rest. 12 My generation is at an end, and it is rolled away from me, as a shepherd's tent. My life is cut off, as by a weaver: whilst I was yet but beginning, he cut me off: from morning even to night thou wilt make an end of me. 13 I hoped till morning, as a lion so hath he broken all my bones: from morning even to night thou wilt make an end of me. 14 I will cry like a young swallow, I will meditate like a dove: my eyes are weakened looking upward: Lord, I suffer violence, answer thou for me. 15 What shall I say, or what shall he answer for me, whereas he himself hath done it? I will recount to thee all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, if man's life be such, and the life of my spirit be in such things as these, thou shalt correct me, and make me to live. 17 Behold in peace is my bitterness most bitter: but thou hast delivered my soul that it should not perish, thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For hell shall not confess to thee, neither shall death praise thee: nor shall they that go down into the pit, look for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall give praise to thee, as I do this day: the father shall make the truth known to the children. 20 O Lord, save me, and we will sing our psalms all the days of our life in the house of the Lord. 21 Now Isaias had ordered that they should take a lump of figs, and lay it as a plaster upon the wound, and that he should be healed. 22 And Ezechias had said: What shall be the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

10

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.

I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

14

Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

15

What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16

O LORD, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

17

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

18

For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

19

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20

The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

21

For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.

Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?

Thomson(i) 1 At that time Ezekias was seized with a mortal sickness; and Esaias son of Amos, the prophet, came to him and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Give orders respecting thy household, for thou art at the point of death and shall not live. 2 Thereupon Ezekias turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 saying, "0 Lord, remember how I have walked before thee with truth and with an upright heart, and have done the things which are pleasing in thy sight." And Ezekias wept bitterly. 4 And a word of the Lord came to Esaias saying, 5 Go and say to Ezekias, Thus saith the Lord, the God of thy father David, I have heard thy prayer and seen thy tears, Behold I will add to thy term fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians and cover this city with my shield. 7 And this shall be a sign to thee from the Lord, that God will perform this decree. 8 Behold I will bring back the shadow of the steps the ten steps of the house of thy father, which the sun hath gone down. I will bring back the sun those ten steps. So the sun reascended the ten steps which the shadow had gone down. 9 The prayer of Ezekias, king of Judea, when he had been sick, and was recovered from his sickness. 10 I said in the height of my days I shall go down to the gates of Hades, I shall leave the years which remain. 11 I said, I shall no more see the salvation of God in the land of the living; I shall no more see the salvation of Israel on the earth; I shall behold man no more. 12 I am cut off from my generation, I have left the remainder of my life. He is gone and departed from me, like one striking a tent, having just pitched it. My soul within me was like a web which the weaver was in act to sever from the loom. 13 In that day I was delivered up until morning as to a lion. So did he break to pieces all my bones. For from day to night I was delivered up. 14 Like a swallow so let me twitter; and like a turtle dove so let me moan; for mine eyes were too weak to look up to the vault of heaven; to the Lord who hath rescued me 15 and taken from me the sorrow of my soul. 16 Of this indeed thou, O Lord, wast told, and thou hast restored my breath and I am comforted and live. 17 For thou hast rescued my soul that it should not perish; and hast cast behind thee all my sins. 18 For those in the mansion of the dead cannot praise thee; nor can the dead return thee thanks, nor they in Hades hope for thy kindness. 19 The living will praise thee even as I do; for from this day I shall raise up children, who will proclaim this loving kindness of thine, 20 God of my salvation; and I will never cease praising thee with a psaltery, all the days of my life over against the house of God. 21 Now Esaias had said to Ezekias, Take a cake of figs and bruise and apply it as a poultice and thou shalt recover. 22 Whereupon Ezekias said, Let this be a sign to Ezekias, that I shall go up to the house of God.

So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it had gone down. 9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered from his sickness: 10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12 My age hath departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 14 Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered: I mourned as a dove: my eyes fail with looking upward: O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me. 15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken to me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he will recover. 22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?

Brenton(i) 1 And it came to pass at that time, that Ezekias was sick even to death. And Esaias the prophet the son of Amos came to him, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Give orders concerning thy house: for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 And Ezekias turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before thee in truth, with a true heart, and have done that which was pleasing in thy sight. And Ezekias wept bitterly. 4 And the word of the Lord came to Esaias, saying, Go, and say to Ezekias, 5 Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, and seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy time fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians: and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign to thee from the Lord, that God will do this thing; 8 behold, I will turn back the shadow of the degrees of the dial by which ten degrees on the house of thy father the sun has gone down — I will turn back the sun the ten degrees; so the sun went back the ten degrees by which the shadow had gone down. 9 THE PRAYER OF EZEKIAS KING OF JUDEA, WHEN HE HAD BEEN SICK, AND WAS RECOVERED FROM HIS SICKNESS. 10 I said in the end of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I shall part with the remainder of my years. 11 I said, I shall no more at all see the salvation of God in the land of the living: I shall no more at all see the salvation of Israel on the earth: I shall no more at all see man. 12 My life has failed from among my kindred: I have parted with the remainder of my life: it has gone forth and departed from me, as one that having pitched a tent takes it down again: my breath was with me as a weaver's web, when she that weaves draws nigh to cut off the thread. 13 In that day I was given up as to a lion until the morning: so has he broken all my bones: for I was so given up from day even to night. 14 As a swallow, so will I cry, and as a dove, so do I mourn: for mine eyes have failed with looking to the height of heaven to the Lord, who has delivered me, 15 (38:14A) and removed the sorrow of my soul. 16 Yea, O Lord, for it was told thee concerning this; and thou hast revived my breath; and I am comforted, and live. 17 For thou hast chosen my soul, that it should not perish: and thou hast cast all my sins behind me. 18 For they that are in the grave shall not praise thee, neither shall the dead bless thee, neither shall they that are in Hades hope for thy mercy. 19 The living shall bless thee, as I also do: for from this day shall I beget children, who shall declare thy righteousness, 20 O God of my salvation; and I will not cease blessing thee with the psaltery all the days of my life before the house of God. 21 Now Esaias had said to Ezekias; Take a cake of figs, and mash them, and apply them as a plaster, and thou shalt be well. 22 And Ezekias said, This is a sign to Ezekias, that I shall go up to the house of God.

And Hezekiah wept aloud. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus hath said the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6 And out of the hand of the king of Assyria will I deliver thee and this city; and I will shield this city. 7 And this shall be unto thee the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing which he hath spoken: 8 Behold, I will cause the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the dial of Achaz by the sun, to return backward ten degrees. So the sun returned ten degrees, by the degrees which he was gone down. 9 The writing of Hezekiah the king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness: 10 I had said, In the midst of my days, must I enter the gates of the nether world; I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11 I had said, I shall not see the Lord, the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall not behold man any more among the inhabitants of the regions of death. 12 My dwelling is broken down, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off, like a weaver, my life; with pining sickness will he snatch me away: from day until night wilt thou make an end of me. 13 I waited with patience till morning, whether as a lion, so would he break all my bones: from day until night wilt thou make an end of me. 14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chirp; I did moan like a dove; my eyes were lifted up on high: O Lord, I am oppressed; grant me ease. 15 What shall I speak? he hath promised it unto me, and he hath also accomplished it; I will make pilgrimages to God’s house all my years because of the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, by these things men will live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou give me health, and cause me to live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but thou hast, in loving my soul, delivered it from the pit of corruption; for thou hast cast behind thy back all my sins. 18 For the nether world will not thank thee, death will not praise thee: they that go down into the pit will not hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living alone shall thank thee, like me this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 The Lord is there to help me; therefore we will play my hymns all the days of our life in the house of the Lord. 21 And Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the inflammation, and he shall recover. 22 And Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?
YLT(i) 1 In those days hath Hezekiah been sick unto death, and come in unto him doth Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, and saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah: Give a charge to thy house, for thou art dying, and dost not live.' 2 And Hezekiah turneth round his face unto the wall, and prayeth unto Jehovah, 3 and saith, `I pray thee, O Jehovah, remember, I pray Thee, how I have walked habitually before Thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and that which is good in thine eyes I have done;' and Hezekiah weepeth—a great weeping. 4 And a word of Jehovah is unto Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and thou hast said to Hezekiah, Thus said Jehovah, God of David thy father, `I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tear, lo, I am adding to thy days fifteen years, 6 and out of the hand of the king of Asshur I deliver thee and this city, and have covered over this city. 7 And this is to thee the sign from Jehovah, that Jehovah doth this thing that He hath spoken. 8 Lo, I am bringing back the shadow of the degrees that it hath gone down on the degrees of Ahaz, by the sun, backward ten degrees:' and the sun turneth back ten degrees in the degrees that it had gone down.
9 A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah concerning his being sick, when he reviveth from his sickness: 10 `I—I said in the cutting off of my days, I go in to the gates of Sheol, I have numbered the remnant of mine years. 11 I said, I do not see Jah—Jah! In the land of the living, I do not behold man any more, With the inhabitants of the world. 12 My sojourning hath departed, And been removed from me as a shepherd's tent, I have drawn together, as a weaver, my life, By weakness it cutteth me off, From day unto night Thou dost end me. 13 I have set Him till morning as a lion, So doth He break all my bones, From day unto night Thou dost end me. 14 As a crane—a swallow—so I chatter, I mourn as a dove, Drawn up have been mine eyes on high, O Jehovah, oppression is on me, be my surety. 15 —What do I say? seeing He said to me, And He Himself hath wrought, I go softly all my years for the bitterness of my soul. 16 Lord, by these do men live, And by all in them is the life of my spirit, And Thou savest me, make me also to live, 17 Lo, to peace He changed for me bitterness, And Thou hast delighted in my soul without corruption, For Thou hast cast behind Thy back all my sins. 18 For Sheol doth not confess Thee, Death doth not praise Thee, Those going down to the pit hope not for Thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he doth confess Thee. 20 Like myself to-day—a father to sons Doth make known of Thy faithfulness, O Jehovah—to save me: And my songs we sing all days of our lives In the house of Jehovah.' 21 And Isaiah saith, `Let them take a bunch of figs, and plaster over the ulcer, and he liveth.' 22 And Hezekiah saith, `What is the sign that I go up to the house of Jehovah!'
JuliaSmith(i) 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick to death. And Isaiah son of Amos, the prophet, will come in to him, and say to him, Thus said Jehovah, Command to thy house, for thou diest, and shalt not live. 2 And Hezekiah will turn his face to the wall and pray to Jehovah. 3 And he will say, O Jehovah, remember now how I went before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and I did the good in thine eyes: And Hezekiah will weep a great weeping. 4 And the word of Jehovah will be to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus said Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I heard thy prayer; and I saw thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city from the hand of the king of Assur: and I covered over this city. 7 And this to thee the sign from Jehovah that Jehovah will do this word which he spake: 8 Behold me turning back the shadow of the steps which will go down in the steps of Ahaz in the sun, backward ten steps. And the sun will turn back ten steps in the steps which it will go down. 9 The writing to Hezekiah king of Judah in his being sick, and he will live from his sickness: 10 I said in the quiet of my days, I shall go to the gates of hades: I was missed the remainder of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see Jah Jah, in the land of the living: I shall no more behold man with the inhabitants of the place of rest. 12 Mine age removed, and was carried away from me as a shepherd's tent: I rolled together as a weaver my life: from the thread he will cut me off: from the day even to the night thou wilt finish me. 13 I set till the morning, as the lion thus will he break all my bones: from the day even to the night thou wilt finish me. 14 As the twittering swallow so shall I chirp: I shall murmur as the dove: mine eyes languished for height: O Jehovah, oppression is to me; be surety for me. 15 What shall I speak? and he said to me, and he did: I shall go slowly all my years upon the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Jehovah, upon these they shall live, and for all of these the life of my spirit: and thou wilt heal me and cause me to live. 17 Behold, for peace bitterness, to me bitterness: and thou didst cleave to my soul from the pit of destruction: and thou didst cast all my sin behind my back 18 For not hades shall praise thee, death celebrate: they going down to the pit shall not hope for thy truth. 19 The living; the living, he shall praise thee, as from me this day the father to the sons shall make known for thy truth. 20 Jehovah to save me; and striking my stringed instruments all the days of our life for the house of Jehovah. 21 And Isaiah will say, They shall lift up round cakes of figs, and rub over the burning sore, and he shall live. 22 And Hezekiah will say, What the sign that I shall go up to the house of Jehovah?

So the sun returned ten steps on the dial whereon it was gone down. 9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness. 10 I said, In the noontide of my days I shall go into the gates of Sheol: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see Jehovah, even Jehovah in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12 My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me as a shepherds tent: I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life; he will cut me off from the loom: From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 13 I quieted myself until morning; as a lion, so he breaketh all my bones: From day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. 14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter; I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety. 15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, by these things men live; And wholly therein is the life of my spirit: Wherefore recover thou me, and make me to live. 17 Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness: But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: The father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 Jehovah is ready to save me: Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments All the days of our life in the house of Jehovah. 21 Now Isaiah had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Jehovah?

Rotherham(i) 1 In those days, was Hezekiah sick, unto death,—and Isaiah the prophet son of Amoz came in unto him, and said unto him—Thus, saith Yahweh, Set in order thy house, for, about to die thou art and shalt not recover. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face unto the wall,—and prayed unto Yahweh; 3 and said,—I beseech thee, O Yahweh, remember, I pray thee, how I have walked before thee in faithfulness and with an undivided heart, and, that which is good in thine eyes, have I done. And Hezekiah wept aloud. 4 Then came the word of Yahweh unto, Isaiah, saying: 5 Go, and say unto Hezekiah—Thus, saith Yahweh, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears,—Behold me! about to add unto thy days, fifteen years; 6 And out of the hand of the king of Assyria, will I deliver thee, and this city; And I will throw a covering over this city. 7 And, this, to thee, shall be the sign from Yahweh,—that Yahweh will do this thing which he hath spoken:— 8 Behold me! causing the shadow on the steps, which hath come gone down on the steps of Ahaz with the sun, to return, backwards ten steps. So the sun returned ten steps, by the steps which it had come down. 9 the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and then recovered from his sickness: 10 I, said—In the noontide of my days, I must enter the gates of hades,—I am deprived of the residue of ray years! 11 I said—I shall not see Yah, Yah, in the land of the living, I shall discern the son of earth no longer, with the dwellers in the quiet land. 12 My dwelling, hath been broken up. And is stripped from me, like a shepherds tent,—I have roiled up—as a weaver—my life From the loom, doth he cut me off, From day until night, [I said] —Thou wilt finish me. 13 I cried out, until morning, like a lion, Thus, will he break all my bones! From day until night, Thou wilt finish me! 14 As a twittering swallow, so, do I chatter, I coo as a dove,—Mine eyes languish through looking on high, O My Lord! distress is upon me—my Surety! 15 What can I say? Since he hath promised for me, Himself, will perform. I will go softly, all my years. Because of the bitterness of my soul, 16 O My Lord! on those things do men live,—And, altogether in them, is the life of my spirit, When thou hast strengthened me and made me live. 17 Lo! for well-being, I had bitterness—bitterness,—But, thou, cleaving unto my soul, hast raised me from the pit of corruption, For thou hast cast, behind thy back all my sins. 18 For, hades, cannot praise thee Nor, death, celebrate thee,—They who go down to the pit cannot wait for thy faithfulness. 19 The living, the living, he, can praise thee, As I do this day,—A father, to his children, can make known thy faithfulness. 20 Yahweh, [was willing] to save me,—Therefore, on my stringed instruments, will we play—All the days of our life By the house of Yahweh. 21 And Isaiah had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and let them press it over the boil, that he may recover. 22 And Hezekiah had said—What is the sign—that I shall go up unto the house of Yahweh?

And coming to him is Isaiah, the prophet, son of Amoz, and is saying to him, "Thus says Yahweh, `Give instructions to your household, for you shall die, and not live.'" 2 And Hezekiah is turning his face about to the side wall and he is praying to Yahweh, 3 and saying, "Oh, Yahweh! Remember, pray, how I walked before You in truth and with a peaceable heart, and what is good in Your eyes have I done. And Hezekiah is lamenting with a great lamentation." 4 And coming is the word of Yahweh to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, "`Thus says Yahweh, the Elohim of David, your forefather, "I have heard the voice of your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold! I will add to your days fifteen years." 6 And from the palm of the king of Assyria will I rescue you and this city, and I am a protection over this city on My account and on account of David, My servant." 7 `"And this is the sign for you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing which He has spoken." 8 Behold Me reversing the shadow on the stairs which descends on the stairs of the upper chamber of Ahaz, and the sun, backward ten stairs."'And the sun is returning ten stairs, on the stairs which the shadow had descended." 9 The writing as to Hezekiah, king of Judah, when he is ill, and he is living after his illness:" 10 I, yea, I say:In the height of my days am I going into the gates of the unseen, made to miss the rest of my years." 11 Said I:I shall not see the salvation of Yah. Yah is in the land of the living. And I shall not look for the salvation of Israel on the earth, I shall not look on humanity further. When I am with the dwellers of transience I leave off looking." 12 My generation journeys and is deported from me as the tent of a shepherd. I snap as a weaver the thread of my life. From the thrum is He clipping me. From day unto night are You causing me to repay. 13 I compensate till the morning. As a lion, so is He breaking all my bones. From day unto night are You causing me to repay." 14 As a speeding swallow, so am I chirping. I am cooing as a dove. Impoverished are my eyes to see to the height of the heavens, to Yahweh. Extortion is for me. Be surety for me!" 15 What shall I speak? What He says to me, He does to me. I shall wander all my years in the bitterness of my soul." 16 My Lord, on account of these things shall they be lived. And for all in them is the life of my spirit. And You are consoling me and do preserve me alive." 17 Behold! For welfare there is bitterness to me; very great bitterness. Yet You are attached to my soul, to keep it from the ruin of decay, for You do fling behind Your body all my sins." 18 For the unseen is not acclaiming You, nor is death praising You, and those descending into a crypt are not looking forward to Your truth." 19 The living! The living one! He is acclaiming You as I today. The father to his sons shall make known Your truth. 20 Yahweh is to save me, and my accompaniments will we play, all the days of our life at the house of Yahweh." 21 And saying is Isaiah, "They shall take pressed dried figs, and put a poultice on the boil, and he shall live." 22 And saying is Hezekiah, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Yahweh Elohim?
BBE(i) 1 In those days Hezekiah was ill and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, The Lord says, Put your house in order; for your death is near. 2 And Hezekiah, turning his face to the wall, made his prayer to the Lord, saying, 3 O Lord, keep in mind how I have been true to you with all my heart, and have done what is good in your eyes. And Hezekiah gave way to bitter weeping. 4 Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go to Hezekiah, and say, The Lord, the God of David, your father, says, Your prayer has come to my ears, and I have seen your weeping: see, I will give you fifteen more years of life. 6 And I will keep you and this town safe from the hands of the king of Assyria: and I will keep watch over this town. 7 And Isaiah said, This is the sign the Lord will give you, that he will do what he has said: 8 See, I will make the shade which has gone down on the steps of Ahaz with the sun, go back ten steps. So the shade went back the ten steps by which it had gone down. 9 The writing of Hezekiah, king of Judah, after he had been ill, and had got better from his disease. 10 I said, In the quiet of my days I am going down into the underworld: the rest of my years are being taken away from me. 11 I said, I will not see the Lord, even the Lord in the land of the living: I will not see man again or those living in the world. 12 My resting-place is pulled up and taken away from me like a herdsman's tent: my life is rolled up like a linen-worker's thread; I am cut off from the cloth on the frame: from day even to night you give me up to pain. 13 I am crying out with pain till the morning; it is as if a lion was crushing all my bones. 14 I make cries like a bird; I give out sounds of grief like a dove: my eyes are looking up with desire; O Lord, I am crushed, take up my cause. 15 What am I to say? seeing that it is he who has done it: all my time of sleeping I am turning from side to side without rest. 16 O Lord, for this cause I am waiting for you, give rest to my spirit: make me well again, and let me come back to life. 17 See, in place of peace my soul had bitter sorrow. but you have kept back my soul from the underworld; for you have put all my sins out of your memory. 18 For the underworld is not able to give you praise, death gives you no honour: for those who go down into the underworld there is no hope in your mercy. 19 The living, the living man, he will give you praise, as I do this day: the father will give the story of your mercy to his children. 20 O Lord, quickly be my saviour; so we will make my songs to corded instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the Lord. 21 And Isaiah said, Let them take a cake of figs, and put it on the diseased place, and he will get well. 22 And Hezekiah said, What is the sign that I will go up to the house of the Lord?

THE HEALING OF YECHIZQI YAH
In those days Yechizqi Yah is sick unto death: and Yesha Yah the prophet the son of Amos comes to him and says to him, Thus says Yah Veh, You, misvah concerning your house: for you die and live not. 2 And Yechizqi Yah turns his face toward the wall, and prays to Yah Veh, 3 and says, Remember, I beseech; O Yah Veh, I beseech you, how I walked at your face in truth and with a heart of shalom, and worked what is good in your eyes. - and Yechizqi Yah weeps with great weeping. 4 And the word of Yah Veh comes to Yesha Yah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Yechizqi Yah, Thus says Yah Veh, Elohim of David your father, I hear your prayer; I see your tears: behold, I add to your days fifteen years: 6 and I rescue you and this city from the palm of the sovereign of Ashshur; and I garrison this city: 7 and this is a sign to you from Yah Veh, that Yah Veh works this word he worded: 8 Behold, I turn back the shadow of the degrees which descends in the sun dial of Ach Az ten degrees backward. - thus the sun turns back ten degrees, by which degrees it had descended. 9 The inscribing of Yechizqi Yah sovereign of Yah Hudah, concerning his sickness, when he enlivened from his sickness: 10 I - I say, in the severing of my days, I go to the portals of sheol: I overlooked the remnant of my years. 11 I say, I see not Yah - Yah in the land of the living: I scan humanity no more with the settlers of the deceased. 12 My generation pulls stakes and exiles from me as the tent of a tender: my life - severed as a weaver: he clips me from the thrum: from day to night you shalam me: 13 I equate until morning; as a lion, thus he breaks all my bones: from day to night you shalam me. 14 As a horse or a swallow, thus I chirp: I coo as a dove: my eyes languish on high: O Yah Veh, I am oppressed; be my pledge. 15 What word I? He says to me and he works: I walk gently all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 Adonay, by these is life, and in all these is the life of my spirit: thus you fatten me and enliven me. 17 Behold, for shalom I was bitterly embittered: and you attached to my soul from the pit of ruin: for you cast all my sins behind your back. 18 For neither sheol spreads hands to you, nor death halals you: they who descend into the well expect not your truth. 19 The living - the living, he spreads hands to you, as I this day: the father makes known your truth to the sons. 20 Yah Veh - ready to save me: so we strum my strummings all the days of our life in the house of Yah Veh. 21 For Yesha Yah says, Let them bear a lump of figs and massage it on the ulcer, and live. 22 And Yechizqi Yah says, What is the sign that I ascend to the house of Yah Veh?

And Hezekiah wept greatly. 4 Then the word of LORD came to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus says LORD, the God of David thy father. I have heard thy prayer. I have seen thy tears. Behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be the sign to thee from LORD, that LORD will do this thing that he has spoken: 8 Behold, I will cause the shadow on the steps, which has gone down on the dial of Ahaz with the sun, to return backward ten steps.   5 H1980 Go, H559 and say H2396 to Hezekiah, H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD, H430 the God H1732 of David H1 your father, H8085 I have heard H8605 your prayer, H7200 I have seen H1832 your tears: H2005 behold, H3254 I will add H3117 to your days H2568 fifteen H6240 H8141 years.

EJ2000(i) 1 ¶ In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz came unto him and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed unto the LORD, 3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. 4 Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer; I have seen thy tears behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD that the LORD will do this thing that he has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down. 9 ¶ The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and was recovered of his sickness: 10 I said in the cutting off of my days; I shall go to the gates of Sheol: I am deprived of the residue of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see JAH, even JAH, in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. 12 My dwelling place has been moved and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent; he has cut off my life like a weaver: he has cut me off with sickness: between the day and the night thou shalt consume me. 13 I reckoned that I had until morning. As a lion, he broke all my bones: from the morning even unto the night thou shalt make an end of me. 14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I complain; I mourned as a dove; I raised my eyes upward, O LORD, I am suffering violence; comfort me. 15 What shall I say? He has both spoken unto me, and he himself has done it; I shall walk softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, even unto all those that shall live, in these fifteen years I shall proclaim the life of my spirit in them and how thou caused me to sleep, and afterwards hast given me life. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but it has pleased thee to deliver my life from the pit of corruption, for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For the grave shall not confess thee, nor shall death praise thee; nor shall those that go down into the pit wait for thy truth. 19 He who lives, he who lives, even he shall confess thee, as I do this day; the father to the sons shall make known thy truth. 20 The LORD is ready to save me: therefore we will sing our psalms in the house of the LORD all the days of our life. 21 Isaiah then said, Let them take a lump of figs and lay it for a plaster upon the boil and he shall be healed. 22 And Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
CAB(i) 1 And it came to pass at that time, that Hezekiah was sick, even to death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Give orders concerning your house; for you shall die, and not live. 2 And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before You in truth, with a true heart, and have done that which was pleasing in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, Go and say to Hezekiah, 5 Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, and have seen your tears; behold, I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians; and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign to you from the Lord, that God will do this thing: 8 Behold, I will turn back the shadow of the degrees of the sundial by ten degrees on the house of your father. I will turn back the sun the ten degrees; so the sun went back the ten degrees by which the shadow had gone down. 9 The prayer of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered from his sickness:. 10 I said in the end of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave; I shall part with the remainder of my years. 11 I said, I shall no more see the salvation of God in the land of the living; I shall no more see the salvation of Israel on the earth; I shall no more see man. 12 My life has failed from among my kindred; I have parted with the remainder of my life; it has gone forth and departed from me, as one that has pitched a tent takes it down again; my breath was with me as a weaver's web, when she that weaves draws near to cut off the thread. 13 In that day I was given up as to a lion until the morning; so has He broken all my bones; for I was so given up from day even to night. 14 As a swallow, so will I cry, and as a dove, so do I mourn; for my eyes have failed from looking to the height of heaven to the Lord, who has delivered me, 15 and removed the sorrow of my soul. 16 Yea, O Lord, for it was told You concerning this; and You have revived my breath; and I am comforted, and live. 17 For You have chosen my soul, that it should not perish; and You have cast all my sins behind me. 18 For they that are in the grave shall not praise You, neither shall the dead bless You, neither shall they that are in Hades hope for Your mercy. 19 The living shall bless You, as I also do; for from this day shall I beget children, who shall declare Your righteousness, 20 O God of my salvation; and I will not cease from blessing You with the psaltery all the days of my life before the house of God. 21 Now Isaiah had said to Hezekiah; Take a cake of figs, and mash them, and apply them as a plaster, and you shall be well. 22 And Hezekiah said, This is a sign to Hezekiah, that I shall go up to the house of God.
NSB(i) 1 King Hezekiah became sick and almost died. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to see him. Isaiah said to him: »Jehovah tells you: ‘You are to put everything in order because you will not recover. Get ready to die.«’ 2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Jehovah: 3 »Remember, Jehovah, that I have served you faithfully and loyally. I have always tried to do what you wanted me to.« Then he cried bitterly. 4 Then Jehovah commanded Isaiah 5 to go back to Hezekiah and say to him: »I Jehovah, the God of your ancestor David, have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen more years to your life. 6 »I will rescue you and this city of Jerusalem from the king of Assyria, and I will continue to protect the city.« 7 Isaiah said:« This is your sign from Jehovah that he will do what he promises. 8 »The sun made a shadow that went down the stairway of the upper palace of Ahaz. ‘I am going to make the shadow go back ten steps.’« So the sun on the stairway went back up the ten steps it had gone down. 9 King Hezekiah of Judah wrote this after he was sick and became well again: 10 »I thought that in the prime of my life I would go down to the gates of the grave and be robbed of the rest of my life. 11 »I thought that I would not see Jehovah in this world. Even with all the people in the world, I thought I would never see another person. 12 »My life was over. You rolled it up like a shepherd's tent. You rolled up my life like a weaver. You cut me off from the loom. You ended my life in one day. 13 »Until morning came, I thought you would crush my bones just like a hungry lion; both night and day you make an end of me. 14 »I cry like a swallow (swift). I mourn like a dove. My eyes are red from looking to you, Jehovah. I am terribly abused. Please come and help me. 15 »There is nothing I can say in answer to you. For you are the one who has done this to me. My life has turned sour. I will limp until I die. 16 »Your words and your deeds bring life to everyone, including me. Please make me healthy and strong again. 17 »Yes, it was for my benefit that I suffered such distress. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction. You have put (thrown) (hurled) all my sins behind your back. 18 »For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise. Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. 19 »The living, yes the living praise you, as I am doing today! Fathers tell their children about your faithfulness. 20 »Jehovah will save me! We will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the Temple of Jehovah.« 21 Isaiah said: »Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.« 22 Hezekiah said: »What will be the sign that I will go up to the Temple of Jehovah?«
LEB(i) 1 In those days, Hezekiah became sick to death, and Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, came to him and said to him, "Thus says Yahweh: 'Order your house, for you are about to die, and you shall not recover.'" 2 Then* Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, 3 and he said, "O Yahweh, please remember how* I have walked before your presence* in faithfulness with a whole heart, and I have done the good in your eyes!" And Hezekiah wept with great weeping. 4 Then* the word of Yahweh came* to Isaiah, saying, 5 "Go and say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your ancestor:* "I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. ' 7 And this is the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken: 8 Look! I will cause the shadow of the steps, which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz with the sun, to turn backwards ten steps." And the sun turned back ten steps on the steps which it had gone down. 9 A writing of Hezekiah, king of Judah, when he was sick and had recovered from his sickness: 10 I was the one who said, "I must go in the quiet of my days; I am summoned through the gates of Sheol for the rest of my years." 11 I said, "I shall not see Yah! Yah in the land of the living! I shall no more look at humankind among the inhabitants of the world. 12 My dwelling place is pulled up and removed from me like the tent of my shepherd; I have rolled up my life like a weaver. He cuts me off from the thrum; from day to night you bring me to an end. 13 I lie down* until morning; like a lion, so he breaks all my bones; from day to night you bring me to an end. 14 Like a horse or a crane, so I chirp; I moan like a dove. My eyes are weak toward the height. Lord, I have oppression; lend me support! 15 What can I say? For* he has spoken to me, and he himself has done it. I will walk slowly all my years because of the bitterness of my soul. 16 Lord, they live by them, and the life of my spirit belongs to all among them. And restore me to health and keep me alive! 17 Look! Bitterness was bitter to me for peace. And you were the one who loved* my life from the pit of destruction, for you have cast all my sins behind your back. 18 For Sheol cannot praise you; death cannot praise you. Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. 19 The living, the living one praises you like me today; a father will make your faithfulness known to children. 20 Yahweh, save me, and we will play my music on stringed instruments all the days of our lives at the temple* of Yahweh." 21 And Isaiah said, "Let them take* a lump of figs, and let them rub it on the boil so that* he may recover." 22 And Hezekiah said, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the temple* of Yahweh?"
Luther1545(i) 1 Zu der Zeit ward Hiskia todkrank.

  5 H1980 [H8800] Ga henen H559 [H8804] , en zeg H2396 tot Hizkia H559 [H8804] : Zo zegt H3068 de HEERE H430 , de God H1 van uw vader H1732 David H8605 : Ik heb uw gebed H8085 [H8804] gehoord H1832 , Ik heb uw tranen H7200 [H8804] gezien H2568 H6240 ; zie, Ik zal vijftien H8141 jaren H3117 tot uw dagen H3254 [H8802] toedoen;

20 L'Éternel a voulu me sauver!

20 L'Eternel m'a sauvé!
