Whiston(i)
THE beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God,
As it is written in Esaias the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the ways of our God, make his paths straight.
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the country of Judea, and all they of Jerusalem, and were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with camels hair; and he did eat locusts and wild hony:
[7-8] And he said unto them, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh one after me who is mightier than I, the latches of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose, and he baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
