1 Samuel 15 Samuel said to Saul, "Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of Yahweh.

2 H559 Thus says H3068 Yahweh H6635 of Armies, H6485 ‘I have marked H6002 that which Amalek H6213 did H3478 to Israel, H7760 how he set H1870 himself against him in the way, H5927 when he came up H4714 out of Egypt.

3 H3212 Now go H5221 and strike H6002 Amalek, H2763 and utterly destroy H2550 all that they have, and don't spare H4191 them; but kill H376 both man H802 and woman, H5768 infant H3243 and nursing H7794 baby, ox H7716 and sheep, H1581 camel H2543 and donkey.'"

4 H7586 Saul H8085 summoned H8085 the H5971 people, H6485 and numbered H2923 them in Telaim, H3967 two hundred H505 thousand H7273 footmen, H6235 and ten H505 thousand H7273 men H3063 of Judah.

5 H7586 Saul H935 came H5892 to the city H6002 of Amalek, H7378 and laid wait H5158 in the valley.

6 H7586 Saul H559 said H7017 to the Kenites, H3212 "Go, H5493 depart, H3381 go down H8432 from among H6002 the Amalekites, H622 lest I destroy H6213 you with them; for you showed H2617 kindness H1121 to all the children H3478 of Israel, H5927 when they came up H4714 out of Egypt." H7017 So the Kenites H5493 departed H8432 from among H6003 the Amalekites.

7 H7586 Saul H5221 struck H6002 the Amalekites, H2341 from Havilah H935 as you go H7793 to Shur, H6440 that is before H4714 Egypt.

8 H8610 He took H90 Agag H4428 the king H6002 of the Amalekites H2416 alive, H2763 and utterly destroyed H5971 all the people H6310 with the edge H2719 of the sword.

9 H7586 But Saul H5971 and the people H2550 spared H90 Agag, H4315 and the best H6629 of the sheep, H1241 and of the cattle, H4932 and of the fatlings, H3733 and the lambs, H2896 and all that was good, H14 and wouldn't H2763 utterly destroy H4399 them: but everything H5240 that was vile H4549 and refuse, H2763 that they destroyed utterly.

10 H1697 Then the word H3068 of Yahweh H8050 came to Samuel, H559 saying,

11 H5162 "It grieves H4427 me that I have set up H7586 Saul H4428 to be king; H7725 for he is turned back H310 from following H6965 me, and has not performed H1697 my commandments." H8050 Samuel H2734 was angry; H2199 and he cried H3068 to Yahweh H3915 all night.

12 H8050 Samuel H7925 rose early H7125 to meet H7586 Saul H1242 in the morning; H5046 and it was told H8050 Samuel, H559 saying, H7586 "Saul H935 came H3760 to Carmel, H5324 and behold, he set up H3027 a monument H5437 for himself, and turned, H5674 and passed on, H3381 and went down H1537 to Gilgal."

13 H8050 Samuel H935 came H7586 to Saul; H7586 and Saul H559 said H1288 to him, "You are blessed H3068 by Yahweh! H6965 I have performed H1697 the commandment H3068 of Yahweh."

14 H8050 Samuel H559 said, H6963 "Then what does this bleating H6629 of the sheep H241 in my ears, H6963 and the lowing H1241 of the cattle H8085 which I hear mean?"

15 H7586 Saul H559 said, H935 "They have brought H6003 them from the Amalekites; H5971 for the people H2550 spared H4315 the best H6629 of the sheep H1241 and of the cattle, H2076 to sacrifice H3068 to Yahweh H430 your God. H2763 We have utterly destroyed H3498 the rest."

16 H8050 Then Samuel H559 said H7586 to Saul, H7503 "Stay, H5046 and I will tell H3068 you what Yahweh H1696 has said H3915 to me last night." H1696 He said H1696 to him, "Say on."

17 H8050 Samuel H559 said, H6996 "Though you were little H5869 in your own sight, H7218 weren't you made the head H7626 of the tribes H3478 of Israel? H3068 Yahweh H4886 anointed H4428 you king H3478 over Israel;

18 H3068 and Yahweh H7971 sent H1870 you on a journey, H559 and said, H3212 ‘Go, H2763 and utterly destroy H2400 the sinners H6002 the Amalekites, H3898 and fight H3615 against them until they are consumed.'

19 H8085 Why then didn't you obey H6963 the voice H3068 of Yahweh, H5860 but took H7998 the spoils, H6213 and did H7451 that which was evil H5869 in the sight H3068 of Yahweh?"

20 H7586 Saul H559 said H8050 to Samuel, H8085 "But I have obeyed H6963 the voice H3068 of Yahweh, H3212 and have gone H1870 the way H3068 which Yahweh H7971 sent H935 me, and have brought H90 Agag H4428 the king H6002 of Amalek, H2763 and have utterly destroyed H6002 the Amalekites.

21 H5971 But the people H3947 took H7998 of the spoil, H6629 sheep H1241 and cattle, H7225 the chief H2764 of the devoted H2076 things, to sacrifice H3068 to Yahweh H430 your God H1537 in Gilgal."

22 H8050 Samuel H559 said, H3068 "Has Yahweh H2656 as great delight H5930 in burnt offerings H2077 and sacrifices, H8085 as in obeying H6963 the voice H3068 of Yahweh? H8085 Behold, to obey H2896 is better H2077 than sacrifice, H8085 and to listen H2459 than the fat H352 of rams.

23 H4805 For rebellion H2403 is as the sin H7081 of witchcraft, H6484 and stubbornness H8655 is as idolatry H205 and teraphim. H3988 Because you have rejected H1697 the word H3068 of Yahweh, H3988 he has also rejected H4428 you from being king."

24 H7586 Saul H559 said H8050 to Samuel, H2398 "I have sinned; H5674 for I have transgressed H6310 the commandment H3068 of Yahweh, H1697 and your words, H3372 because I feared H5971 the people, H8085 and obeyed H6963 their voice.

25 H5375 Now therefore, please pardon H2403 my sin, H7725 and turn again H7812 with me, that I may worship H3068 Yahweh."

26 H8050 Samuel H559 said H7586 to Saul, H7725 "I will not return H3988 with you; for you have rejected H1697 the word H3068 of Yahweh, H3068 and Yahweh H3988 has rejected H4428 you from being king H3478 over Israel."

27 H8050 As Samuel H5437 turned about H3212 to go away, H2388 Saul grabbed H3671 the skirt H4598 of his robe, H7167 and it tore.

28 H8050 Samuel H559 said H3068 to him, "Yahweh H7167 has torn H4468 the kingdom H3478 of Israel H3117 from you this day, H5414 and has given H7453 it to a neighbor H2896 of yours who is better than you.

29 H5331 Also the Strength H3478 of Israel H8266 will not lie H5162 nor repent; H120 for he is not a man, H5162 that he should repent."

30 H559 Then he said, H2398 "I have sinned: H3513 yet please honor H2205 me now before the elders H5971 of my people, H3478 and before Israel, H7725 and come back H7812 with me, that I may worship H3068 Yahweh H430 your God."

31 H8050 So Samuel H7725 went back H310 with H7586 Saul; H7586 and Saul H7812 worshiped H3068 Yahweh.

32 H8050 Then Samuel H559 said, H5066 "Bring here H90 to me Agag H4428 the king H6002 of the Amalekites!" H90 Agag H3212 came H4574 to him cheerfully. H90 Agag H559 said, H403 "Surely H4751 the bitterness H4194 of death H5493 is past."

33 H8050 Samuel H559 said, H2719 "As your sword H802 has made women H7921 childless, H517 so your mother H7921 will be childless H802 among women!" H8050 Samuel H8158 cut H90 Agag H8158 in pieces H6440 before H3068 Yahweh H1537 in Gilgal.

34 H8050 Then Samuel H3212 went H7414 to Ramah; H7586 and Saul H5927 went up H1004 to his house H1390 to Gibeah H7586 of Saul.

35 H8050 Samuel H3254 came no more H7200 to see H7586 Saul H3117 until the day H4194 of his death; H3588 for H8050 Samuel H56 mourned H7586 for Saul: H3068 and Yahweh H5162 grieved H7586 that he had made Saul H4427 king H3478 over Israel.
