Riverside(i)
For we who have faith are entering into the rest, as he said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter into my rest,' " although his works had been finished since the creation of the world.
For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day thus, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,"
and in this place again, "They shall not enter into my rest."
Since, then, it remains for some to enter into it, and those who first received the good news did not enter because of lack of faith —
again he indicates a day, "to-day," saying in David so long after, as has been already quoted, "To-day if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
For if Joshua had given them rest he would not be speaking of another day after that.
Therefore there still remains a rest for the people of God.
