John 11:43-53

Noyes(i) 43 And having thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth! 44 He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith to them, Loose him, and let him go. 45 Many of the Jews therefore who had come to Mary, and had seen what he did, believed in him. 46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What are we to do, seeing that this man worketh many signs? 48 If we thus let him alone, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and take away both our place and nation. 49 And a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being highpriest that year, said to them, Ye know nothing at all; 50 nor do ye consider that it is expedient for us that one man die for the people, and not the whole nation perish. 51 And this he spoke not from himself; but being highpriest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation; 52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together in one body the children of God that are scattered abroad. 53 Therefore from that day forth they consulted together to put him to death.
