1 Corinthians 1:18-29

NSB(i) 18 For the preaching of the stake is foolishness to those who perish. It is the power of God to us who are saved. 19 It is written: »I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.« (Isaiah 29:14) 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 This is the wisdom of God that the world through its wisdom did not come to know God. God was well pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 Indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom. 23 We preach Christ impaled. It is a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the nations! 24 To those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, it is Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 Consider your calling, brothers. Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 Instead God chose the foolish things of the world to confuse (shame) the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to confuse (shame) the things that are mighty. 28 God also chose the base things of the world, and things which are despised, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are. 29 No human being should boast before God.
