Numbers 13

Matthew(i) 1 And the Lorde spake vnto Moses saying: 2 Sende men out to serche the lande of Canaan, whyche I geue vnto the chyldren of Israel: of euery trybe of their fathers a man and let them all be soche as are ruelars among them. 3 And Moses at the commaundement of the Lorde sent forth out of the wyldernesse of Pharan: soche men as were all heades among the chyldren of Israell, whose names are these. 4 In the trybe of Ruben, Sammua the sonne of Zacur: 5 In the trybe of Symeon, Saphat the sonne of Hori. 6 In the trybe of Iuda Caleph the sonne of Iephune. 7 In the trybe of Isachar, Igeal the sonne of Ioseph. 8 In the trybe of Ephraim, Hosea the sonne of Nun. 9 In the trybe of Beniamin, Palthy the sonne of Raphu. 10 In the trybe of Zabulon, Gadiel the sonne of Sodi. 11 In the trybe of Ioseph: that was of Manasse, Gaddi the sonne of Susi. 12 In the trybe of Dan, Amiel the sonne of Gemali. 13 In the trybe of Aser, Sethur the sonne of Micheel. 14 In the trybe of Nephthali Nahebi the sonne of Vaphsi. 15 In the trybe of Gad, Guel the sonne of Machi. 16 These are the names of the men whych Moses sent to spye out the lande. And Moses called the name of Hosea the sonne of Nun, Iosua. 17 And Moses sent them forth to spye out the land of Canaan, & sayd vnto them: gett you southward and go vp in to the hye contrey, 18 and se the lande what maner thyng it is and the people that dwelleth therin: whether they be strong or weake, ether fewe or many, 19 and what the lande is that they dwel in whether it be good or bad, and what maner of cyties they dwel in whether they dwel in tentes or walled townes, 20 and what maner of lande it is: whether it be fatt or leane, and whether there be trees therin or not. And be of a good courage, and brynge of the frutes of the land. And it was aboute the tyme that grapes are fyrst rype. 21 And they went vp & searched out the land from the wyldernesse of Zin vnto Rehob, as men go to Hemath, 22 & they ascended vnto the south & came vnto Hebron, where Ahiman was & Sesai and Thalmani the sonnes of Enacke. Hebron was bylt .vij. yere before Zoan in Egypt. 23 And they came vnto the riuer of Escol & they cut doune there a braunch wt one clouster of grapes & bare it vpon a staffe betwene twayne, and also of the pomgranates and of the fygges of the place. 24 The ryuer was called Nehell Escoll, because of the clouster of grapes whych the children of Israel cut doune there. 25 And they turned backe agayn from searchynge the land, at .xl. dayes ende. 26 And they went and came to Moses and Aaron & vnto all the multitude of the chyldren of Israell, vnto the wyldernesse of Pharan: euen vnto Cades, and broughte them worde and also vnto all the congregation, and shewed them the frute of the lande. 27 And they tolde hym sayinge: we came vnto the land wether thou sendest vs, and surelye it is a lande that floweth wyth milke and honye and here is of the frute of it. 28 Neuerthelesse the people be strong that dwell in the lande, and the Cytyes are walled and exceadynge greate, and moreouer, we sawe the chyldren of Enack ther. 29 The Amaleckes dwell in the south contre, & the Hethytes, Iebusites and the Amorites dwel in the mountaynes, and the Cananites dwell by the sea and a longe by the costet of Iordan. 30 And Caleb stylled the murmure of the people agaynst Moses saynge: let vs go vp and conquere it, for we be able to ouercome it. 31 But the men that went vp wyth hym, sayde: We be not able to go vp agaynste the people for they are stronger then we: 32 And they brought vp an euel reporte of the land whych they had searched, vnto the chyldren of Israel saiynge: The lande whyche we haue gone throwe to searche it out, is a lande that eateth vp the inhabiters therof, and the people that we sawe in it are men of stature. 33 And there we sawe also gyauntes, the chyldren of Enack whych are of the gyauntes. And we semed in oure syght as it were greshoppers and so we dyd in their syght.
