And the chyldren of Israel also went to and wepte and sayde: who shal geue vs flesh to eate? 5 we remembre the fysh whych we should eate in Egypt for noughte and of the Cucumbers and melouns, lekes, onyouns and garleke. 6 But now oure soules ar dryed a waye, for oure eyes loke on nothyng els, saue vpon Manna. 7 The Manna was as it had bene coriander seed, and to se to lyke Bedellion. 8 And the people went aboute and gathered it, & grounde it in milles or bet it in morters and baked it in pannes and made kakes of it. And the tast of it was lyke vnto the tast of an oyle kake. 9 And when the dewe fell aboute the hoste in the nyghte, the Manna fel therwith. 10 And when Moses herde the people wepe in their housholdes euery man in the dore of his tent, then the wrath of the Lorde waxed whott excedynglye: & it greued Moses also. 11 And Moses sayde vnto the Lorde: wherfore dealest thou so cruelly wyth thy seruaunte? wherfore do I not fynde fauoure in thi sight seynge that thou puttest the weyght of thys people vpon me? 12 haue I conceyued all thys people, or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest saye vnto me, carye them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the suckyng chyld) vnto the land whych thou swarest vnto their fathers? 13 where shoulde I haue flesh to geue vnto al this people? For they wepe vnto me sayinge: geue vs fleshe that we maye eate. 14 I am not able to bere all this people alone, for it is to heuy for me. 15 Wherfore yf thou deale thus with me, kyl me, I pray the, If I haue found fauoure in thy syght and let me not se my wrechednesse. 16 And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: gether vnto me .lxx. of the elders of Israel, which thou knowest that they are the elders of the people and offycers ouer them, & brynge them vnto the tabernacle of wytnesse, and let them stande there with the. 17 And I wil come doune and talke wyth the there, and take of the spirite which is vpon the and put vpon the and vpon them and they shall bere wyth the in burthen of the people, and so shalt thou not beare alone. 18 And say vnto the people: halowe your selues against to morow that ye may eate flesh for ye haue whyned in the eares of the Lord saying: who shal geue vs flesh to eate, for we were happye when we were in Egypt? therfore the Lord wil geue you flesh, and ye shal eate: 19 Ye shall not eate one daye onlye ether two or fyue dayes, ether .x. or .xx. dayes: 20 but euen a moneth longe, and vntyl it come oute at the nostrels of you, that ye be ready to parbrake: because that ye haue cast that Lorde asyde whyche is among you, and haue wepte before hym sayinge: why came we oute of Egypte. 21 And Moses saide: syxe hundred thousand fotemen are there of the people, among whiche I am. And thou hast sayde: I wyll geue them flesh and they shall eate a moneth longe. 22 Shal the shepe and the oxen be slayne for them to fynde them, ether shal al the fysh of the sea be gathered together to serue them? 23 And the Lord sayd vnto Moses: is the Lordes hande waxed shorte. Thou shalt se whether my worde shall come to passe vnto the or not. 24 And Moses went out and tolde the people the saying of the Lorde, and gethered the .lxx. elders of the people, and set them round aboute the tabernacle. 25 And the Lorde came doune in a cloude & spake vnto him, and toke of the sprete that was vpon him, and put it vpon the .lxx. elders. And as the spirite rested vpon them, they prophecied & dyd nought els. 26 But there remayneth .ij. of the men in the host: the one called Eldad, & the other Medad And the spirite rested vpon them for they were of them that were wrytten, but they went not out vnto the tabernacle: and they prophecyed in the hoste. 27 And there ran a younge man & told Moses and saied: Eldad & Medad do prophecye in the hoste. 28 And Iosua the sonne of Nun the seruaunte of Moses which he had chosen out answered and sayed: master Moses, forbyd them. 29 And Moses sayed vnto hym: enuyest thou for my sake? wold God that al the Lordes people coulde prophecye, & that the lord wolde put his spyrite vpon them. 30 And then both Moses & the elders of Israel, gat them into the hoste. 31 And there went forth a wynde from the Lord and brought quayles from the sea and let them fal about the hoste, euen a daies iourney rounde about on euery syde of the hoste and .ij. cubites hye vpon the erth. 32 And the people stode vp all that day and all that nyghte and on the morow, & gethered quayles. And he that gethered the lest, gethered .x. homers full. And they kylled them rounde aboute the hoste. 33 And whyle the flesh was yet betwene their teeth, yeare it was chewed vp, the wrath of the Lord waxed whott vpon the people, and the Lord slewe of the people an exceading mightye slaughter. 34 And they called the name of the place kibrath hathauah: because thei buried the people that lusted there. 35 And the people toke theyr iourney from kibrath hathauah vnto hazeroth, and bode at hazeroth.
