Hosea 13 The abhominacion of Ephraim is come also into Israel: he is gone backe to Baal, therfore must he dye.

Matthew⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ The abhominacion of Ephraim is come also into Israel: he is gone backe to Baal, therfore must he dye. ² And now they synne more and more: of their syluer, they make them molten Images, lyke the Idoles of the Heathen, and yet al is nothinge but the worcke of the craftesmre. Notwithstandinge they preach of the same: who so wil kisse the calues, offreth to men. ³ Therfore they shalbe as the morning cloud, & as the dew that early passeth away, & lyke as dust that the wynde taketh awaye from the floure, and as smoke that goeth oute of the chymney. ⁴ I am the Lorde thy God, whiche broughte the out of the land of Egypte: that thou shouldest know no God, but me onely, & that thou shouldest haue no Sauiour but onlye me. ⁵ I toke diligent hede of the in the wildernesse that drye land. ⁶ But when they were wel fedde & had ynough, they waxed proude, and forgat me. ⁷ Therfore wyll I be vnto them as a lyon, & as a leoparde in the waye to the Assirians. ⁸ I wil come vpon them as a she beer, that is robbed of her whelpes, & I will breake that stubburne herte of theirs. There wyll I deuoure them as a lyon: yea the wilde beastes shall teare them. ⁹ O Israel, thou doest but destroye thy selfe, in me onely is thy helpe. ¹⁰ Where are thy kinges now, that shoulde helpe the in all thy cyties? Yea, and thy iudges, of whom thou saydest: geue me a kynge and prynces? ¹¹ well I gaue the a king in my wrath, & in my dyspleasure will I take him from the agayne. ¹² The wyckednesse of Ephraim is bounde together and hys sinne lyed hid. ¹³ Therfore shall sorowes come vpon him, as vpon a woman that trauayleth. An vndyscrete sonne is he: for he consydreth not, that he shoulde not haue bene able to haue endured in the tyme of hys byrth, ¹⁴ had not I defended hym from the graue, and delyuered hym from deathe. O death, I wyl be thy death: O hel, I wil be thy stynge. ¹⁵ Yet can I se no comforte, for when he is nowe the goodlyest among the brethren, the East wynde (euen the wynd of the Lorde) shall come doune from the wyldernesse, and drye vp hys condytes, and drincke vp hys welles: he shall spoyle the treasure of all pleasaunte vessels. ¹⁶ As for Samaria, they shalbe made waste, and why? they are disobedient vnto their god. They shal perysh with the sweard, their children shalbe slayne, and theyr wemen greate with chylde shalbe rypt vp.
