2 Samuel 10:1-14 ויהי And it came to pass אחרי after כן this, וימת died, מלך that the king בני of the children עמון of Ammon וימלך reigned חנון and Hanun בנו his son תחתיו׃ in his stead.

2 H559 ויאמר Then said H1732 דוד David, H6213 אעשׂה I will show H2617 חסד kindness H5973 עם unto H2586 חנון Hanun H1121 בן the son H5176 נחשׁ of Nahash, H834 כאשׁר as H6213 עשׂה showed H1 אביו his father H5978 עמדי H2617 חסד kindness H7971 וישׁלח sent H1732 דוד me. And David H5162 לנחמו to comfort H3027 ביד him by the hand H5650 עבדיו of his servants H413 אל for H1 אביו his father. H935 ויבאו came H5650 עבדי servants H1732 דוד And David's H776 ארץ into the land H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon.

3 H559 ויאמרו said H8269 שׂרי And the princes H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H413 אל unto H2586 חנון Hanun H113 אדניהם their lord, H3513 המכבד doth honor H1732 דוד thou that David H853 את H1 אביך thy father, H5869 בעיניך Thinkest H3588 כי that H7971 שׁלח he hath sent H5162 לך מנחמים comforters H3808 הלוא unto thee? hath not H5668 בעבור thee, to H2713 חקור search H853 את H5892 העיר the city, H7270 ולרגלה and to spy it out, H2015 ולהפכה and to overthrow H7971 שׁלח sent H1732 דוד David H853 את H5650 עבדיו his servants H413 אליך׃ unto

4 H3947 ויקח took H2586 חנון Wherefore Hanun H853 את H5650 עבדי servants, H1732 דוד David's H1548 ויגלח and shaved off H853 את H2677 חצי the one half H2206 זקנם of their beards, H3772 ויכרת and cut off H853 את H4063 מדויהם their garments H2677 בחצי in the middle, H5704 עד to H8357 שׁתותיהם their buttocks, H7971 וישׁלחם׃ and sent them away.

5 H5046 ויגדו When they told H1732 לדוד unto David, H7971 וישׁלח he sent H7125 לקראתם to meet H3588 כי them, because H1961 היו were H582 האנשׁים H3637 נכלמים ashamed: H3966 מאד greatly H559 ויאמר said, H4428 המלך and the king H3427 שׁבו Tarry H3405 בירחו at Jericho H5704 עד until H6779 יצמח be grown, H2206 זקנכם your beards H7725 ושׁבתם׃ and return.

6 H7200 ויראו saw H1121 בני And when the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H3588 כי that H887 נבאשׁו they stank H1732 בדוד before David, H7971 וישׁלחו sent H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H7936 וישׂכרו and hired H853 את H758 ארם the Syrians H1050 בית רחוב of Beth-rehob, H853 ואת H758 ארם and the Syrians H6678 צובא of Zoba, H6242 עשׂרים twenty H505 אלף thousand H7273 רגלי footmen, H853 ואת H4428 מלך and of king H4601 מעכה Maacah H505 אלף a thousand H376 אישׁ men, H376 ואישׁ men. H2897 טוב H8147 שׁנים twelve H6240 עשׂר twelve H376 אלף H505 אישׁ׃ thousand

7 H8085 וישׁמע heard H1732 דוד And when David H7971 וישׁלח of he sent H853 את H3097 יואב Joab, H853 ואת H3605 כל and all H6635 הצבא the host H1368 הגברים׃ of the mighty men.

8 H3318 ויצאו came out, H1121 בני And the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H6186 ויערכו in array H4421 מלחמה and put the battle H6607 פתח at the entering H8179 השׁער in of the gate: H758 וארם and the Syrians H6678 צובא of Zoba, H7340 ורחוב and of Rehob, H376 ואישׁ H2897 טוב H4601 ומעכה and Maacah, H905 לבדם by themselves H7704 בשׂדה׃ in the field.

9 H7200 וירא saw H3097 יואב When Joab H3588 כי that H1961 היתה was H413 אליו against H6440 פני the front H4421 המלחמה of the battle H6440 מפנים him before H268 ומאחור and behind, H977 ויבחר he chose H3605 מכל of all H970 בחורי H3478 בישׂראל of Israel, H6186 ויערך and put in array H7125 לקראת against H758 ארם׃ the Syrians:

10 H853 ואת H3499 יתר And the rest H5971 העם of the people H5414 נתן he delivered H3027 ביד into the hand H52 אבשׁי of Abishai H251 אחיו his brother, H6186 ויערך that he might put in array H7125 לקראת against H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon.

11 H559 ויאמר And he said, H518 אם If H2388 תחזק be too strong H758 ארם the Syrians H4480 ממני for H1961 והיתה me, then thou shalt H3467 לי לישׁועה and help H518 ואם me: but if H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H2388 יחזקו be too strong H4480 ממך for H1980 והלכתי thee, then I will come H3467 להושׁיע׃

12 H2388 חזק Be of good courage, H2388 ונתחזק and let us play the men H1157 בעד for H5971 עמנו our people, H1157 ובעד and for H5892 ערי the cities H430 אלהינו of our God: H3068 ויהוה and the LORD H6213 יעשׂה do H2896 הטוב him good. H5869 בעיניו׃ that which seemeth

13 H5066 ויגשׁ drew nigh, H3097 יואב And Joab H5971 והעם and the people H834 אשׁר that H5973 עמו with H4421 למלחמה him, unto the battle H758 בארם against the Syrians: H5127 וינסו and they fled H6440 מפניו׃ before

14 H1121 ובני And when the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H7200 ראו saw H3588 כי that H5127 נס were fled, H758 ארם the Syrians H5127 וינסו then fled H6440 מפני they also before H52 אבישׁי Abishai, H935 ויבאו and entered H5892 העיר into the city. H7725 וישׁב returned H3097 יואב So Joab H5921 מעל from H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון of Ammon, H935 ויבא and came H3389 ירושׁלם׃ to Jerusalem.
