1 Samuel 9 ויהי Now there was אישׁ a man מבן ימין ושׁמו whose name קישׁ Kish, בן the son אביאל of Abiel, בן the son צרור of Zeror, בן the son בכורת of Bechorath, בן the son אפיח of Aphiah, בן אישׁ ימיני גבור a mighty man חיל׃ of power.

2 H1961 ולו היה And he had H1121 בן a son, H8034 ושׁמו whose name H7586 שׁאול Saul, H970 בחור a choice young man, H2896 וטוב and a goodly: H369 ואין and not H376 אישׁ person H1121 מבני among the children H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H2896 טוב a goodlier H4480 ממנו among the children H7926 משׁכמו he: from his shoulders H4605 ומעלה and upward H1364 גבה higher H3605 מכל than any H5971 העם׃ of the people.

3 H6 ותאבדנה were lost. H860 האתנות And the asses H7027 לקישׁ of Kish H1 אבי father H7586 שׁאול Saul's H559 ויאמר said H7027 קישׁ And Kish H413 אל to H7586 שׁאול Saul H1121 בנו his son, H3947 קח Take H4994 נא now H854 אתך with H853 את H259 אחד one H5288 מהנערים of the servants H6965 וקום thee, and arise, H1980 לך go H1245 בקשׁ seek H853 את H860 האתנת׃ the asses.

4 H5674 ויעבר And he passed through H2022 בהר mount H669 אפרים Ephraim, H5674 ויעבר and passed through H776 בארץ the land H8031 שׁלשׁה of Shalisha, H3808 ולא not: H4672 מצאו but they found H5674 ויעברו then they passed through H776 בארץ the land H8171 שׁעלים of Shalim, H369 ואין and not: H5674 ויעבר and he passed through H776 בארץ the land H3227 ימיני H3808 ולא not. H4672 מצאו׃ but they found

5 H1992 המה when they H935 באו were come H776 בארץ to the land H6689 צוף of Zuph, H7586 ושׁאול Saul H559 אמר said H5288 לנערו to his servant H834 אשׁר that H5973 עמו with H1980 לכה him, Come, H7725 ונשׁובה and let us return; H6435 פן lest H2308 יחדל leave H1 אבי my father H4480 מן for H860 האתנות the asses, H1672 ודאג׃ and take thought

6 H559 ויאמר And he said H2009 לו הנה unto him, Behold H4994 נא now, H376 אישׁ a man H430 אלהים of God, H5892 בעיר city H2063 הזאת in this H376 והאישׁ man; H3513 נכבד and an honorable H3605 כל all H834 אשׁר that H1696 ידבר he saith H935 בוא cometh surely to pass: H935 יבוא cometh surely to pass: H6258 עתה H1980 נלכה let us go H8033 שׁם thither; H194 אולי peradventure H5046 יגיד he can show H853 לנו את H1870 דרכנו us our way H834 אשׁר that H1980 הלכנו we should go. H5921 עליה׃ that

7 H559 ויאמר Then said H7586 שׁאול Saul H5288 לנערו to his servant, H2009 והנה But, behold, H1980 נלך we go, H4100 ומה what H935 נביא shall we bring H376 לאישׁ the man? H3588 כי for H3899 הלחם the bread H235 אזל is spent H3627 מכלינו in our vessels, H8670 ותשׁורה a present H369 אין and not H935 להביא to bring H376 לאישׁ to the man H430 האלהים of God: H4100 מה what H854 אתנו׃

8 H3254 ויסף again, H5288 הנער And the servant H6030 לענות answered H853 את H7586 שׁאול Saul H559 ויאמר and said, H2009 הנה Behold, H4672 נמצא I have here H3027 בידי at hand H7253 רבע the fourth part H8255 שׁקל of a shekel H3701 כסף of silver: H5414 ונתתי will I give H376 לאישׁ to the man H430 האלהים of God, H5046 והגיד to tell H853 לנו את H1870 דרכנו׃ us our way.

9 H6440 לפנים (Formerly H3478 בישׂראל in Israel, H3541 כה thus H559 אמר he spoke, H376 האישׁ when a man H1980 בלכתו went H1875 לדרושׁ to inquire H430 אלהים of God, H1980 לכו Come, H1980 ונלכה and let us go H5704 עד to H7203 הראה H3588 כי for H5030 לנביא a Prophet H3117 היום now H7121 יקרא called H6440 לפנים was formerly H7203 הראה׃

10 H559 ויאמר Then said H7586 שׁאול Saul H5288 לנערו to his servant, H2896 טוב Well H1697 דברך said; H1980 לכה come, H1980 נלכה let us go. H1980 וילכו So they went H413 אל unto H5892 העיר the city H834 אשׁר where H8033 שׁם where H376 אישׁ the man H430 האלהים׃ of God

11 H1992 המה as they H5927 עלים went up H4608 במעלה the hill H5892 העיר to the city, H1992 והמה they H4672 מצאו found H5291 נערות young maidens H3318 יצאות going out H7579 לשׁאב to draw H4325 מים water, H559 ויאמרו and said H3426 להן הישׁ unto them, Is H2088 בזה here? H7203 הראה׃

12 H6030 ותענינה And they answered H853 אותם H559 ותאמרנה them, and said, H3426 ישׁ He is; H2009 הנה behold, H6440 לפניך before H4116 מהר you: make haste H6258 עתה now, H3588 כי for H3117 היום today H935 בא he came H5892 לעיר to the city; H3588 כי for H2077 זבח a sacrifice H3117 היום today H5971 לעם of the people H1116 בבמה׃ in the high place:

13 H935 כבאכם As soon as ye be come H5892 העיר into the city, H3651 כן ye shall straightway H4672 תמצאון find H853 אתו H2962 בטרם him, before H5927 יעלה he go up H1116 הבמתה to the high place H398 לאכל to eat: H3588 כי for H3808 לא will not H398 יאכל eat H5971 העם the people H5704 עד until H935 באו he come, H3588 כי because H1931 הוא he H1288 יברך doth bless H2077 הזבח the sacrifice; H310 אחרי afterwards H3651 כן afterwards H398 יאכלו they eat H7121 הקראים that be bidden. H6258 ועתה Now H5927 עלו therefore get you up; H3588 כי for H853 אתו H3117 כהיום about this time H4672 תמצאון ye shall find H853 אתו׃

14 H5927 ויעלו And they went up H5892 העיר into the city: H1992 המה when they H935 באים were come H8432 בתוך into H5892 העיר the city, H2009 והנה behold, H8050 שׁמואל Samuel H3318 יצא came out H7122 לקראתם H5927 לעלות them, for to go up H1116 הבמה׃ to the high place.

15 H3068 ויהוה Now the LORD H1540 גלה had told H853 את H241 אזן his ear H8050 שׁמואל Samuel H3117 יום day H259 אחד a H6440 לפני before H935 בוא came, H7586 שׁאול Saul H559 לאמר׃ saying,

16 H6256 כעת about this time H4279 מחר Tomorrow H7971 אשׁלח I will send H413 אליך unto me. H376 אישׁ thee a man H776 מארץ out of the land H1144 בנימן of Benjamin, H4886 ומשׁחתו and thou shalt anoint H5057 לנגיד him captain H5921 על over H5971 עמי my people H3478 ישׂראל Israel, H3467 והושׁיע that he may save H853 את H5971 עמי my people H3027 מיד out of the hand H6430 פלשׁתים of the Philistines: H3588 כי for H7200 ראיתי I have looked upon H853 את H5971 עמי my people, H3588 כי because H935 באה is come H6818 צעקתו their cry H413 אלי׃

17 H8050 ושׁמואל And when Samuel H7200 ראה saw H853 את H7586 שׁאול Saul, H3068 ויהוה the LORD H6030 ענהו said H2009 הנה unto him, Behold H376 האישׁ the man H834 אשׁר whom H559 אמרתי I spoke H413 אליך to H2088 זה thee of! this same H6113 יעצר shall reign H5971 בעמי׃ over my people.

18 H5066 ויגשׁ drew near H7586 שׁאול Then Saul H853 את H8050 שׁמואל to Samuel H8432 בתוך in H8179 השׁער the gate, H559 ויאמר and said, H5046 הגידה Tell H4994 נא me, I pray thee, H335 לי אי where H2088 זה where H1004 בית house H7203 הראה׃

19 H6030 ויען answered H8050 שׁמואל And Samuel H853 את H7586 שׁאול Saul, H559 ויאמר and said, H595 אנכי I H7203 הראה H5927 עלה go up H6440 לפני before H1116 הבמה me unto the high place; H398 ואכלתם for ye shall eat H5973 עמי with H3117 היום me today, H7971 ושׁלחתיך I will let thee go, H1242 בבקר and tomorrow H3605 וכל thee all H834 אשׁר that H3824 בלבבך in thine heart. H5046 אגיד׃ and will tell

20 H860 ולאתנות And as for thine asses H6 האבדות that were lost H3117 לך היום days H7969 שׁלשׁת three H3117 הימים ago, H408 אל not H7760 תשׂם set H853 את H3820 לבך thy mind H3588 להם כי on them; for H4672 נמצאו they are found. H4310 ולמי And on whom H3605 כל all H2532 חמדת the desire H3478 ישׂראל of Israel? H3808 הלוא not H3605 לך ולכל on thee, and on all H1004 בית house? H1 אביך׃ thy father's

21 H6030 ויען answered H7586 שׁאול And Saul H559 ויאמר and said, H3808 הלוא not H1145 בן ימיני a Benjamite, H595 אנכי I H6996 מקטני of the smallest H7626 שׁבטי of the tribes H3478 ישׂראל of Israel? H4940 ומשׁפחתי and my family H6810 הצערה the least H3605 מכל of all H4940 משׁפחות the families H7626 שׁבטי of the tribe H1144 בנימן of Benjamin? H4100 ולמה wherefore H1696 דברת then speakest H413 אלי to H1697 כדבר thou so H2088 הזה׃ thou so

22 H3947 ויקח took H8050 שׁמואל And Samuel H853 את H7586 שׁאול Saul H853 ואת H5288 נערו and his servant, H935 ויביאם and brought H3957 לשׁכתה them into the parlor, H5414 ויתן and made them sit H4725 להם מקום place H7218 בראשׁ in the chiefest H7121 הקרואים among them that were bidden, H1992 והמה which H7970 כשׁלשׁים about thirty H376 אישׁ׃ persons.

23 H559 ויאמר said H8050 שׁמואל And Samuel H2876 לטבח unto the cook, H5414 תנה Bring H853 את H4490 המנה the portion H834 אשׁר which H5414 נתתי I gave H834 לך אשׁר thee, of which H559 אמרתי I said H413 אליך unto H7760 שׂים thee, Set H853 אתה H5973 עמך׃ it by

24 H7311 וירם took up H2876 הטבח And the cook H853 את H7785 השׁוק the shoulder, H5921 והעליה and which upon H7760 וישׂם it, and set H6440 לפני before H7586 שׁאול Saul. H559 ויאמר And said, H2009 הנה Behold H7604 הנשׁאר that which is left! H7760 שׂים set H6440 לפניך before H398 אכל thee, eat: H3588 כי for H4150 למועד unto this time H8104 שׁמור hath it been kept H559 לך לאמר for thee since I said, H5971 העם the people. H7121 קראתי I have invited H398 ויאכל did eat H7586 שׁאול So Saul H5973 עם with H8050 שׁמואל Samuel H3117 ביום day. H1931 ההוא׃ that

25 H3381 וירדו And when they were come down H1116 מהבמה from the high place H5892 העיר into the city, H1696 וידבר communed H5973 עם with H7586 שׁאול Saul H5921 על upon H1406 הגג׃ the top of the house.

26 H7925 וישׁכמו And they arose early: H1961 ויהי and it came to pass H5927 כעלות about the spring H7837 השׁחר of the day, H7121 ויקרא called H8050 שׁמואל that Samuel H413 אל called H7586 שׁאול Saul H1406 הגג to the top of the house, H559 לאמר saying, H6965 קומה Up, H7971 ואשׁלחך that I may send thee away. H6965 ויקם arose, H7586 שׁאול And Saul H3318 ויצאו and they went out H8147 שׁניהם both H1931 הוא of them, he H8050 ושׁמואל and Samuel, H2351 החוצה׃ abroad.

27 H1992 המה as they H3381 יורדים were going down H7097 בקצה to the end H5892 העיר of the city, H8050 ושׁמואל Samuel H559 אמר said H413 אל to H7586 שׁאול Saul, H559 אמר Bid H5288 לנער the servant H5674 ויעבר pass on H6440 לפנינו before H5674 ויעבר us, (and he passed on,) H859 ואתה but stand thou still H5975 עמד but stand thou still H3117 כיום a while, H8085 ואשׁמיעך that I may show H853 את H1697 דבר thee the word H430 אלהים׃ of God.
