ALLOTTING CITIES OF THE LEVIYM
And Yah Veh words to Mosheh in the plains of Moab by Yarden near Yericho, saying, 2 Misvah the sons of Yisra El, to give the Leviym cities to settle for the inheritance of their possession: and also give the Leviym suburbs for the cities all around them: 3 and the cities to settle in are for them; and the suburbs are for their animals and for their acquisitions and for all their live beings. 4 And the suburbs of the cities you give the Leviym, are from the wall of the city and outward - a thousand cubits all around: 5 and measure from outside the city - on the east edge two thousand cubits and on the south edge two thousand cubits and on the seaward edge two thousand cubits and on the north edge two thousand cubits; with the city in the middle: these are their suburbs of the cities. 6
ALLOTTING CITIES OF REFUGE TO THE LEVIYM
And the cities you give to the Leviym, six cities are for refuge to give the murderer to flee to: and give them forty-two cities. 7 So all the cities you give to the Leviym, forty-eight cities - them with their suburbs: 8 and the cities you give are of the possession of the sons of Yisra El: from the many, you greaten; and from the few, you lessen: every man gives of his cities to the Leviym according to the mouth of the inheritance he inherits. 9 And Yah Veh words to Mosheh, saying, 10 Word to the sons of Yisra El, and say to them, When you pass over Yarden to the land of Kenaan; 11 and happen on cities - your cities of refuge for the murderer to flee to - who smites a soul by inadvertent error; 12 and they are your cities of refuge from the redeemer - that the murderer not die until he stands in judgment at the face of the witness. 13 And of these cities you give - your six cities of refuge: 14 give three cities on this side Yarden and give three cities in the land of Kenaan for cities of refuge. 15 These six cities are a refuge for the sons of Yisra El and for the sojourner and for the settler in their midst: for every one who smites a soul by inadvertent error to flee there. 16 And if he smites him with an instrument of iron, so that he dies, he is a murderer: in deathifying, deathify the murderer. 17 And if by handling a stone, wherewith he dies, and he dies, he is a murderer: in deathifying, deathify the murderer. 18 Or if a hand instrument of timber, wherewith he dies, and he dies, he is a murderer: in deathifying, deathify the murderer. 19 The redeemer of blood himself deathifies the murderer: when he encounters him, he deathifies him. 20 And if in hatred, he shoves him, or hurls at him by lurking, that he die; 21 or in enmity smites him with his hand, that he die: in deathifying, deathify him who smites him; for he is a murderer: the redeemer of blood deathifies the murderer, when he encounters him. 22 And if, in a blink, without enmity, he shoves him, or casts on him any instrument, without lurking, 23 or with any stone, whereby a man dies, not seeing him, and it befalls him, that he dies and was neither his enemy, nor sought his evil: 24 then the witness judge between him who smites and between the redeemer of blood according to these judgments: 25 and the witness rescues the murderer from the hand of the redeemer of blood and the witness restores him to the city of his refuge, from which he fled: and he settles there until the death of the great priest who was anointed with the holy oil. 26 But if, at any time, the murderer comes outside the border of the city of his refuge, where he flees; 27 and the redeemer of blood finds him outside the borders of the city of his refuge and the redeemer of blood murders the murderer; he is not guilty of blood: 28 because he was to settle in the city of his refuge until the death of the great priest: but after the death of the great priest the murderer returns to the land of his possession. 29 And these become your statute of judgment throughout your generations, in all your settlements. 30 Whoever smites a soul, murder the murderer by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness answers not against a soul as to his death. 31 And take no koper/atonement for the soul of a murderer who is wicked unto death: and in deathifying, deathify him. 32 And take no koper/atonement for him who flees to the city of his refuge, to return to settle in the land until the death of the priest. 33 And profane not the land wherein you are; for blood profanes the land: and you cannot kapar/atone the land for the blood poured therein, except by the blood of him who poured it. 34 Foul not the land wherein you settle in whose midst I tabernacle: I -Yah Veh tabernacle among the sons of Yisra El.
