Joel 2

CLV(i) 1 Blow the trumpet in Zion! And shout in My holy mountain! All the dwellers of the land shall be disturbed, for coming is the day of Yahweh! For it is near!" 2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of cloud and murkiness, as the dawn spread on the mountains. A people numerous and staunch:Like it, it has not occurred from the eon, and after it, it shall not be again, unto years of generation after generation." 3 Before it a fire devours, and behind it is a blaze flaming. As a luxuriant garden is the land before it, yet behind it is a wilderness desolation. And, moreover, a deliverance comes not to it." 4 As the appearance of horses is its appearance, and as horsemen, so are they running." 5 As the sound of chariots on the mountain tops are they dancing along, as the sound of a blaze of fire devouring straw, as a people numerous and staunch, arranged for battle." 6 Before its face are the peoples travailing; all faces are feverish with frustration. 7 As masters are they running. As mortals of war are they ascending a wall. And they are going, each man in his own ways, and their paths are not crossing." 8 And they are not jostling, each man his brother; they are going, each master in his file, and about the javelin they are falling in; they are not clipping their ranks." 9 In the city are they prowling; on the wall are they running; into the houses are they ascending; through the windows are they entering, as a thief." 10 Before it the earth is disturbed; the heavens quake, the sun and the moon are somber, and the stars gather in their brightness." 11 And Yahweh gives forth His voice before His army, for exceedingly numerous is His camp, for staunch is the doer of His word. For great is the day of Yahweh and exceedingly fearful, and who shall endure it? 12 And, moreover, now, (averring is Yahweh, your Elohim), Return unto Me with all your heart and with fasting and with lamenting and with wailing, 13 and tear your heart and not your garments, and return to Yahweh, your Elohim. For gracious and compassionate is He, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and He regrets over the evil." 14 Who is knowing, if He will return and regret, and let a blessing remain behind Him, an approach present and a libation for Yahweh, your Elohim? 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion! Hallow a fast! Proclaim a time of restraint! 16 Gather the people! Hallow the assembly! Convene the elders! Gather the unweaned children and the sucklings at the breasts! The bridegroom shall fare forth from his chamber, and the bride from her canopy!" 17 Between the portico and the altar shall the priests lament. The ministers of Yahweh then shall say, Commiserate, Yahweh, over Your people, and You must not give Your allotment to reproach, that the nations rule among them. Why shall they say among the peoples, Where is their Elohim? 18 Then Yahweh will be jealous for His land, and He will spare His people." 19 And Yahweh will respond and say to His people, Behold Me sending to you grain and grape juice and clarified oil, and you shall be satisfied with it. And I will not make you a reproach among the nations any more." 20 The northerner I will put far off from you, and I will expel him to an arid land and a desolation, with his face to the eastern sea, and his rear guard to the sea that is behind. His stink ascends, and his stench will ascend, for he magnifies his doings." 21 You must not fear, O ground! Exult and rejoice, for Yahweh magnifies His doings." 22 You must not fear, beasts of the field, for verdant shall be the oases of the wilderness. For the tree shall bear its fruit, the fig and the vine shall give their potency." 23 Then, sons of Zion, exult! And rejoice in Yahweh, your Elohim! For He will give to you the former rain in just measure, and He will bring down for you the downpour, the former rain and the latter rain as at first." 24 The threshing sites shall be full with cereal, and the wine vats shall run over with grape juice and clarified oil." 25 I will repay to you for the years which the locust devoured, the grub and the beetle and the larva, My great army which I sent among you." 26 Then you shall surely eat and be satisfied, and you shall praise the name of Yahweh, your Elohim, Who deals with you marvelously, and My people shall not be ashamed for the eon." 27 You shall know that within Israel am I, and I am Yahweh, your Elohim, and there is none else beside Me. And My people shall not be ashamed for the eon." 28 And it comes afterward, I shall pour out My spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your elders shall dream dreams, your chosen ones shall see visions." 29 And, moreover, on the servants and on the maids in those days shall I pour out My spirit." 30 And I will give miracles in the heavens above, and signs on the earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke." 31 The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of Yahweh, the great and fearful day." 32 And it comes that everyone who shall call on the name of Yahweh shall escape, for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem, deliverance shall come to be, just as Yahweh says; and among the survivors are those whom Yahweh is calling."
