CAB⁽ⁱ⁾ ²⁰ And Menahem raised the silver by a tax upon Israel, even on every mighty man in wealth, to give to the king of the Assyrians; fifty shekels were levied on each man; and the king of the Assyrians departed, and remained not there in the land.

It may be supposed, that Menahem compelled "the mighty men of wealth" to give much more a-piece than this sum, (somewhat about 5\u65533 . sterling each) and each of them in some proportion to his affluence.
