Jeremiah 20 Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

1 H6583 Now Pashhur, H1121 the son H564 of Immer H3548 the priest, H6496 who was chief H5057 officer H1004 in the house H3068 of Jehovah, H8085 heard H3414 Jeremiah H5012 prophesying H1697 these things.

2 H6583 Then Pashhur H5221 smote H3414 Jeremiah H5030 the prophet, H5414 and put H4115 him in the stocks H5945 that were in the upper H8179 gate H1144 of Benjamin, H1004 which was in the house H3068 of Jehovah.

3 H4283 And it came to pass on the morrow, H6583 that Pashhur H3318 brought forth H3414 Jeremiah H4115 out of the stocks. H559 Then said H3414 Jeremiah H3068 unto him, Jehovah H7121 hath not called H8034 thy name H6583 Pashhur, H4036 but Magor-missabib.

4 H559 For thus saith H3068 Jehovah, H5414 Behold, I will make H4032 thee a terror H157 to thyself, and to all thy friends; H5307 and they shall fall H2719 by the sword H341 of their enemies, H5869 and thine eyes H7200 shall behold H5414 it; and I will give H3063 all Judah H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon, H1540 and he shall carry them captive H894 to Babylon, H5221 and shall slay H2719 them with the sword.

5 H5414 Moreover I will give H2633 all the riches H5892 of this city, H3018 and all the gains H3366 thereof, and all the precious things H214 thereof, yea, all the treasures H4428 of the kings H3063 of Judah H5414 will I give H3027 into the hand H341 of their enemies; H962 and they shall make them a prey, H3947 and take H935 them, and carry H894 them to Babylon.

6 H6583 And thou, Pashhur, H3427 and all that dwell H1004 in thy house H3212 shall go H7628 into captivity; H935 and thou shalt come H894 to Babylon, H4191 and there thou shalt die, H6912 and there shalt thou be buried, H157 thou, and all thy friends, H5012 to whom thou hast prophesied H8267 falsely.

7 H3068 O Jehovah, H6601 thou hast persuaded H6601 me, and I was persuaded; H2388 thou art stronger H3201 than I, and hast prevailed: H7814 I am become a laughing-stock H3117 all the day, H3932 every one mocketh me.

8 H1767 For as often H1696 as I speak, H7121 I cry H2199 out; H7121 I cry, H2555 Violence H1697 and destruction! because the word H3068 of Jehovah H2781 is made a reproach H7047 unto me, and a derision, H3117 all the day.

9 H559 And if I say, H2142 I will not make mention H1696 of him, nor speak H8034 any more in his name, H3820 then there is in my heart H1197 as it were a burning H784 fire H6113 shut up H6106 in my bones, H3811 and I am weary H3557 with forbearing, H3201 and I cannot contain.

10 H8085 For I have heard H1681 the defaming H7227 of many, H4032 terror H5439 on every side. H5046 Denounce, H5046 and we will denounce H582 him, say all my familiar H8104 friends, they that watch H6763 for my fall; H6601 peradventure he will be persuaded, H3201 and we shall prevail H3947 against him, and we shall take H5360 our revenge on him.

11 H3068 But Jehovah H1368 is with me as a mighty H6184 one H7291 and a terrible: therefore my persecutors H3782 shall stumble, H3201 and they shall not prevail; H3966 they shall be utterly H954 put to shame, H7919 because they have not dealt wisely, H5769 even with an everlasting H3639 dishonor H7911 which shall never be forgotten.

12 H3068 But, O Jehovah H6635 of hosts, H974 that triest H6662 the righteous, H7200 that seest H3629 the heart H3820 and the mind, H7200 let me see H5360 thy vengeance H1540 on them; for unto thee have I revealed H7379 my cause.

13 H7891 Sing H3068 unto Jehovah, H1984 praise H3068 ye Jehovah; H5337 for he hath delivered H5315 the soul H34 of the needy H3027 from the hand H7489 of evil-doers.

14 H779 Cursed H3117 be the day H3205 wherein I was born: H3117 let not the day H517 wherein my mother H3205 bare H1288 me be blessed.

15 H779 Cursed H376 be the man H1319 who brought tidings H1 to my father, H559 saying, H2145 A H1121 man-child H3205 is born H8055 unto thee; making him very H8055 glad.

16 H376 And let that man H5892 be as the cities H3068 which Jehovah H2015 overthrew, H5162 and repented H8085 not: and let him hear H2201 a cry H1242 in the morning, H8643 and shouting H6256 at noontime;

17 H4191 because he slew H7358 me not from the womb; H517 and so my mother H6913 would have been my grave, H7358 and her womb H5769 always H2030 great.

18 H3318 Wherefore came I forth H7358 out of the womb H7200 to see H5999 labor H3015 and sorrow, H3117 that my days H3615 should be consumed H1322 with shame?
