Jeremiah 20 Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

1 Now H6583 Pashhur, the H1121 son of H564 Immer the H3548 priest, who was H6496 chief H5057 officer in the H1004 house of H3068 Jehovah, H8085 heard H3414 Jeremiah H5012 prophesying these H1697 things. 2 Then H6583 Pashhur H5221 smote H3414 Jeremiah the H5030 prophet, and H5414 put him in the H4115 stocks that were in the H5945 upper H8179 gate of H1144 Benjamin, which was in the H1004 house of H3068 Jehovah. 3 And it came to pass on the H4283 morrow, that H6583 Pashhur brought H3318 forth H3414 Jeremiah out of the H4115 stocks. Then H559 said H3414 Jeremiah unto him, H3068 Jehovah hath not H7121 called thy H8034 name H6583 Pashhur, but H4036 Magor-missabib. 4 For thus H559 saith H3068 Jehovah, Behold, I will H5414 make thee a H4032 terror to thyself, and to all thy H157 friends; and they shall H5307 fall by the H2719 sword of their H341 enemies, and thine H5869 eyes shall H7200 behold it; and I will H5414 give all H3063 Judah into the H3027 hand of the H4428 king of H894 Babylon, and he shall carry them H1540 captive to H894 Babylon, and shall H5221 slay them with the H2719 sword. 5 Moreover I will H5414 give all the H2633 riches of this H5892 city, and all the H3018 gains thereof, and all the precious H3366 things thereof, yea, all the H214 treasures of the H4428 kings of H3063 Judah will I H5414 give into the H3027 hand of their H341 enemies; and they shall make them a H962 prey, and H3947 take them, and H935 carry them to H894 Babylon. 6 And thou, H6583 Pashhur, and all that H3427 dwell in thy H1004 house shall H3212 go into H7628 captivity; and thou shalt H935 come to H894 Babylon, and there thou shalt H4191 die, and there shalt thou be H6912 buried, thou, and all thy H157 friends, to whom thou hast H5012 prophesied H8267 falsely. 7 O H3068 Jehovah, thou hast H6601 persuaded me, and I was H6601 persuaded; thou art H2388 stronger than I, and hast H3201 prevailed: I am become a H7814 laughing-stock all the H3117 day, every one H3932 mocketh me. 8 For as H1767 often as I H1696 speak, I H7121 cry H2199 out; I H7121 cry, H2555 Violence and destruction! because the H1697 word of H3068 Jehovah is made a H2781 reproach unto me, and a H7047 derision, all the H3117 day. 9 And if I H559 say, I will not make H2142 mention of him, nor H1696 speak any more in his H8034 name, then there is in my H3820 heart as it were a H1197 burning H784 fire shut H6113 up in my H6106 bones, and I am H3811 weary with H3557 forbearing, and I H3201 cannot contain. 10 For I have H8085 heard the H1681 defaming of H7227 many, H4032 terror on every H5439 side. H5046 Denounce, and we will H5046 denounce him, say all my H582 familiar friends, they that H8104 watch for my H6763 fall; peradventure he will be H6601 persuaded, and we shall H3201 prevail against him, and we shall H3947 take our H5360 revenge on him. 11 But H3068 Jehovah is with me as a H1368 mighty H6184 one and a terrible: therefore my H7291 persecutors shall H3782 stumble, and they shall not H3201 prevail; they shall be H3966 utterly put to H954 shame, because they have not dealt H7919 wisely, even with an H5769 everlasting H3639 dishonor which shall never be H7911 forgotten. 12 But, O H3068 Jehovah of H6635 hosts, that H974 triest the H6662 righteous, that H7200 seest the H3629 heart and the H3820 mind, let me H7200 see thy H5360 vengeance on them; for unto thee have I H1540 revealed my H7379 cause. 13 H7891 Sing unto H3068 Jehovah, H1984 praise ye H3068 Jehovah; for he hath H5337 delivered the H5315 soul of the H34 needy from the H3027 hand of H7489 evil-doers. 14 H779 Cursed be the H3117 day wherein I was H3205 born: let not the H3117 day wherein my H517 mother H3205 bare me be H1288 blessed. 15 H779 Cursed be the H376 man who brought H1319 tidings to my H1 father, H559 saying, H2145 A H1121 man-child is H3205 born unto thee; making him H8055 very H8055 glad. 16 And let that H376 man be as the H5892 cities which H3068 Jehovah H2015 overthrew, and H5162 repented not: and let him H8085 hear a H2201 cry in the H1242 morning, and H8643 shouting at H6256 noontime; 17 because he H4191 slew me not from the H7358 womb; and so my H517 mother would have been my H6913 grave, and her H7358 womb H5769 always H2030 great. 18 Wherefore came I H3318 forth out of the H7358 womb to H7200 see H5999 labor and H3015 sorrow, that my H3117 days should be H3615 consumed with H1322 shame?
