ALT(i) 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by [the] will of God, according to [the] promise of life, the [one] in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, beloved child: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God [the] Father and Christ Jesus our Lord! 3 I thank God, whom I sacredly serve [as my] forefathers [did] with a pure conscience, as I have unceasing remembrance concerning you in my petitions night and day, 4 longing to see you, having remembered your tears, so that I shall be filled with joy, 5 taking [fig., calling to] remembrance the sincere faith within you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I have been persuaded that [is] also in you. 6 For which cause I remind you to be rekindling the spiritual gift of God, the [one] in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and of love and of a sound mind [or, of self-discipline]. 8 Therefore, you shall not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord nor of me his prisoner, but endure hardship along with [me in] the Gospel according to [the] power of God, 9 the One having saved us, having called [us] with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, the one having been given to us in Christ Jesus before eternal times [or, before time began], 10 but having been revealed now through the appearance of our Savior Jesus Christ, on the one hand having abolished death, on the other hand having brought to light life and immortality through the Gospel, 11 to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of Gentiles. 12 For which cause also I suffer these [things], but I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have believed, and I have been persuaded that He is able to guard [what] I have entrusted to Him until that Day. 13 Be holding [the] pattern [or, standard] of sound words which you heard from me, in faith and love, the [one] in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good thing entrusted to you through [the] Holy Spirit, the One dwelling in us. 15 You know this, that they turned away from me, all the [ones] in Asia, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, because he frequently refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain; 17 but having been in Rome, he very diligently sought and found me. 18 May the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that Day! And you know very well [in] how many [ways] he served in Ephesus.
