1 Timothy

ALT(i) 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to [the] command of God our Savior and of the Lord Jesus Christ our hope [or, confident expectation], 2 To Timothy, a genuine child in [the] faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord! 3 Just as I urged you to remain in Ephesus while I traveled to Macedonia, so that you should give strict orders to certain [ones] to stop teaching a different [or, heretical] doctrine 4 and to stop paying attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than [furthering the] administration [or, plan] of God, the [one] in faith. 5 But the end [or, goal] of the command is love out of a pure heart [fig., inner self] and a good conscience and a sincere faith, 6 from which certain [ones], having strayed [or, deviated] from, were turned aside to futile discourse, 7 desiring to be teachers of the Law, not understanding neither what they are saying, nor concerning what they confidently assert. 8 But we know that [the] Law [is] good, if anyone makes use of it lawfully, 9 knowing this: that law is not laid down for a righteous [person] but for lawless and insubordinate [persons], for ungodly [ones] and for sinners, for unholy and for profane [or, worldly] [ones], for killers of fathers and for killers of mothers, for murderers, 10 for sexual sinners, for participants in male-male sex, for slave dealers [or, kidnappers], for liars, for perjurers, and if anything else is in opposition to sound teaching, 11 according to the Gospel of the glory of the blessed God, [with] which I was entrusted. 12 And I give thanks to the One having empowered me— Christ Jesus our Lord— that He considered me faithful, having put [me] into the ministry, 13 the one formerly being a blasphemer and a persecutor and an insolent person, but I was shown mercy, because failing to understand, I did [it] in unbelief, 14 but the grace of our Lord overflowed with faith and love, the [grace which is] in Christ Jesus. 15 Trustworthy [is] the word and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first [fig., the foremost of all]. 16 But for this reason I was shown mercy, so that in me first [fig., as the foremost of all] Jesus Christ should demonstrate all His patience, as a pattern for the ones about to be believing on [or, trusting in] Him to life eternal. 17 Now to the King of the ages [fig., the King eternal], immortal, invisible, [the] only wise God, [be] honor and glory into the ages of the ages [fig., forever and ever]! So be it! 18 This command I entrust to you, [my] child Timothy, according to the previously made prophesies concerning you, so that in them you war the good warfare [fig., struggle against evil forces], 19 having faith and a good conscience, which certain [ones] having pushed away [fig., rejected], suffered shipwreck concerning the faith, 20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satan, so that they shall be taught not to be blaspheming.
