1 Peter

ALT(i) 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the chosen [or, elect] sojourners of the dispersion [i.e. the scattering of Jews outside of Judea] of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to [the] foreknowledge of God [the] Father, in sanctification of [the] Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of [the] blood of Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to youp! 3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the One according to His great mercy having regenerated us to a living hope [or, confident expectation], through [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ from [the] dead, 4 into an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, having been reserved in the heavens for youp, 5 the ones being guarded by [the] power of God through faith for [the] salvation ready to be revealed in [the] last time; 6 in which youp are very glad, [though] now [for] a little [while], if it is necessary, youp have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the genuineness of yourp faith, [being] much more precious [than] gold, the [thing] perishing, but being approved through fire, shall be found to praise and honor and to glory in [the] revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom not having known, youp love, in whom now not seeing but believing, youp are very glad with a inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 receiving the end of yourp faith, [the] salvation of souls. 10 Concerning which salvation [the] prophets sought diligently and carefully searched, the [prophets] having prophesied concerning the grace, the one [coming] to youp, 11 searching for who or what time the Spirit of Christ in them was clearly showing, predicting the sufferings of Christ and the glory after these. 12 To whom it was revealed that not to themselves but to youp they were serving these [things], which now were announced to youp by the ones having proclaimed the Gospel to youp by [the] Holy Spirit having been sent from heaven, into which [things] angels desire to look. 13 For this reason, having tied up at the waist the clothes of yourp mind [fig., having prepared yourp mind for action], being sober [or, clear-headed], place yourp hope [or, trust] completely upon the grace being brought to youp at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, not conforming yourselves [or, not allowing yourself to be conformed] to the former lusts [which youp had] in yourp ignorance, 15 but just as the One having called youp [is] holy, youp also become holy in all [yourp] conduct, 16 because it has been written, "Continue becoming holy, because I am holy." [Lev 11:44,45; 19:2, 20:7] 17 And if youp call on the Father, the One judging impartially according to the work of each [one], conduct yourselves in fear [during] the time of yourp sojourn [fig., life on earth], 18 knowing that not with corruptible [things like] silver or gold were youp redeemed from yourp futile way of life handed down by yourp fathers, 19 but with [the] precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, 20 having been foreknown, on the one hand before [the] laying of [the] foundation of the world [or, beginning of [the] creation of the universe], on the other hand having been revealed in [the] last times for the sake of youp, 21 the ones through Him believing in God, the One having raised Him from [the] dead and having given glory to Him, in order that yourp faith and hope [or, expectation] are in God. 22 Having [or, Since youp have] purified yourp souls in obedience to the truth through [the] Spirit in sincere brotherly love [fig., affection for fellow-believers], love one another earnestly from a pure heart [fig., inner self], 23 having been [or, because youp have been] regenerated [or, born again] not from corruptible seed but incorruptible, through [the] word of God [which is] living and remaining into the age [fig., forever]. 24 For "All flesh [is] like grass, and all glory of humanity like [the] flower of grass; the grass withered, and its flower fell off, 25 but the word of the LORD remains into the age [fig., forever]." Now this is the word, the Gospel having been proclaimed to youp. [Isaiah 40:6-8]
