1 Corinthians

ALT(i) 1 Paul, a called apostle of Jesus Christ by [the] will of God, and Sosthenes the brother, 2 To the assembly [or, church, and throughout epistle] of God, the one being in Corinth, to the ones having been sanctified [or, made holy] in Christ Jesus, called holy ones [or, saints, and throughout epistle], with all the ones calling on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours: 3 Grace to youp and peace from God our Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ! 4 I give thanks to my God always concerning youp because of the grace of God, the one having been given to youp in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every [thing] youp were enriched in Him, in [or, with] all word [or, discourse] and all knowledge, 6 just as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in youp, 7 with the result that youp are not falling short [or, lacking] in any spiritual gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who also will confirm [or, sustain] youp to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God [is] faithful, by whom youp were called into [the] fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 10 Now I am calling on [or, pleading with] youp, brothers [and sisters], through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that youp all shall be speaking the same [thing] [fig., shall be in agreement], and [there] shall not be divisions among youp, but youp shall have been perfected in the same mind and in the same judgment [or, purpose]. 11 For it was clearly shown to me concerning youp, my brothers [and sisters], by the [members] of Chloe's [household], that [there] are quarrels among youp. 12 Now I say this, that each of youp are saying, "I indeed am of Paul," "But I of Apollos," "But I of Cephas," "But I of Christ." 13 Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for youp, was he? Or were youp baptized [or, immersed, and throughout epistle] into the name of Paul? 14 I give thanks to God that I baptized none of youp, except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I baptized into my name. 16 Now I baptized also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that I do not know whether I baptized any other [or, anyone else]. 17 For Christ did not send me to be baptizing, but to be proclaiming the Gospel; not in wisdom of word [or, cleverness of speech], so that the cross of Christ should not be made of no effect [or, be deprived of its power]. 18 For the word of the cross indeed is foolishness to the ones perishing, but to us, the ones being saved, it is [the] power of God! 19 For it has been written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nothing." [Isaiah 29:14] 20 Where [is the] wise? Where [is the] scribe? Where [is the] skillful debater of this age? God made the wisdom of this world foolish, did He not? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the proclamation [or, the message being preached] to save the ones believing. 22 Since also Jews ask for a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ [as] having been crucified, to Jews indeed a stumbling-block and to Greeks foolishness, 24 but to them, the ones called, both to Jews and to Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than people, and the weakness of God is stronger than people. 26 For youp see yourp calling, brothers [and sisters], that [there are] not many wise according to [the] flesh, not many powerful, not many noble [or, of high social status]; 27 but God chose the foolish [things] of the world, so that He should be humiliating the wise; and God chose the weak [things] of the world, so that He should be humiliating the strong; 28 and God chose the insignificant [things] of the world and the [things] having been despised [or, looked down on], and the [things] not being, so that He should nullify the [things] being [fig., which exist], 29 in order that all flesh shall not [or, no flesh shall] boast before God. 30 But by Him youp are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, just as it has been written, "The one boasting, let him be boasting in [the] LORD." [Jer 9:24]
