Nehemiah 8 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

1 H3605 And all H5971 the people H622 gathered H259 themselves together as one H376 man H413 into H7339 the street H6440 that was before H4325 the water H8179 gate; H559 and they spoke H5830 to Ezra H5608 the scribe H935 to bring H5612 the book H8451 of the law H4872 of Moses, H834 which H3068 the LORD H6680 had commanded H3478 to Israel.

2 H5830 And Ezra H3548 the priest H935 brought H8451 the law H6440 before H6951 the congregation H376 both of men H802 and women, H3605 and all H8085 that could hear H995 with understanding, H259 on the first H3117 day H7637 of the seventh H2320 month.

3 H7121 And he read H6440 therein before H7339 the street H6440 that was before H4325 the water H8179 gate H216 from the morning H5704 until H4276 midday, H3117 H5048 before H582 the men H802 and the women, H995 and those that could understand; H241 and the ears H3605 of all H5971 the people H5612 were attentive to the book H8451 of the law.

4 H5830 And Ezra H5608 the scribe H5975 stood H4026 on a pulpit H6086 of wood, H834 which H6213 they had made H1697 for the purpose; H681 and beside H5975 him stood H4993 Mattithiah, H8087 and Shema, H6043 and Anaiah, H223 and Urijah, H2518 and Hilkiah, H4641 and Maaseiah, H5921 on H3225 his right H3225 hand; H8040 and on his left H8040 hand, H6305 Pedaiah, H4332 and Mishael, H4441 and Malchiah, H2828 and Hashum, H2806 and Hashbadana, H2148 Zechariah, H4918 and Meshullam.

5 H5830 And Ezra H6605 opened H5612 the book H5869 in the sight H3605 of all H5971 the people; H5921 (for he was above H3605 all H5971 the people; H6605 ) and when he opened H3605 it, all H5971 the people H5975 stood up:

6 H5830 And Ezra H1288 blessed H3068 the LORD, H1419 the great H430 God. H3605 And all H5971 the people H6030 answered, H543 Amen, H543 Amen, H4607 with lifting H3027 up their hands: H6915 and they bowed H7812 their heads, and worshipped H3068 the LORD H639 with their faces H776 to the ground.

7 H3442 Also Jeshua, H1137 and Bani, H8274 and Sherebiah, H3226 Jamin, H6126 Akkub, H7678 Shabbethai, H1940 Hodijah, H4641 Maaseiah, H7042 Kelita, H5838 Azariah, H3107 Jozabad, H2605 Hanan, H6411 Pelaiah, H3881 and the Levites, H5971 caused the people H995 to understand H8451 the law: H5971 and the people H5977 stood in their place.

8 H7121 So they read H5612 in the book H8451 in the law H430 of God H6567 distinctly, H7760 and gave H7922 the sense, H995 and caused them to understand H4744 the reading.

9 H5166 And Nehemiah, H1931 which H8660 is the Tirshatha, H5830 and Ezra H3548 the priest H5608 the scribe, H3881 and the Levites H995 that taught H5971 the people, H559 said H3605 to all H5971 the people, H3117 This day H6918 is holy H3068 to the LORD H430 your God; H56 mourn H408 not, nor H1058 weep. H3605 For all H5971 the people H1058 wept, H8085 when they heard H1697 the words H8451 of the law.

10 H559 Then he said H3212 to them, Go H398 your way, eat H4924 the fat, H8354 and drink H4477 the sweet, H7971 and send H4490 portions H3808 to them for whom nothing H3559 is prepared: H3117 for this day H6918 is holy H113 to our LORD: H408 neither H6087 be you sorry; H2304 for the joy H3068 of the LORD H4581 is your strength.

11 H3881 So the Levites H2814 stilled H3605 all H5971 the people, H559 saying, H2013 Hold H2013 your peace, H3117 for the day H6918 is holy; H408 neither H6087 be you grieved.

12 H3605 And all H5971 the people H3212 went H398 their way to eat, H8354 and to drink, H7971 and to send H4490 portions, H6213 and to make H1419 great H8057 mirth, H3588 because H995 they had understood H1697 the words H3045 that were declared to them.

13 H8145 And on the second H3117 day H622 were gathered H7218 together the chief H1 of the fathers H3605 of all H5971 the people, H3548 the priests, H3881 and the Levites, H5830 to Ezra H5608 the scribe, H7919 even to understand H1697 the words H8451 of the law.

14 H4672 And they found H3789 written H8451 in the law H834 which H3068 the LORD H6680 had commanded H4872 by Moses, H1121 that the children H3478 of Israel H3427 should dwell H5521 in booths H2282 in the feast H7637 of the seventh H2320 month:

15 H8085 And that they should publish H5674 and proclaim H3605 in all H5892 their cities, H3389 and in Jerusalem, H559 saying, H3318 Go H3318 forth H2022 to the mount, H935 and fetch H2132 olive H5929 branches, H6086 and pine H8081 H5929 branches, H1918 and myrtle H5929 branches, H8558 and palm H5929 branches, H5929 and branches H5687 of thick H6086 trees, H6213 to make H5521 booths, H3789 as it is written.

16 H5971 So the people H3318 went H3318 forth, H935 and brought H6213 them, and made H1992 themselves H5521 booths, H376 every H376 one H1406 on the roof H2691 of his house, and in their courts, H2691 and in the courts H1004 of the house H430 of God, H7339 and in the street H4325 of the water H8179 gate, H7339 and in the street H8179 of the gate H669 of Ephraim.

17 H3605 And all H6951 the congregation H7725 of them that were come H7725 again H7628 out of the captivity H6213 made H5521 booths, H3427 and sat H5521 under the booths: H3117 for since the days H3442 of Jeshua H1121 the son H5126 of Nun H3117 to that day H1121 had not the children H3478 of Israel H6213 done H3651 so. H3966 And there was very H1419 great H8057 gladness.

18 H3117 Also day H3117 by day, H7223 from the first H3117 day H314 to the last H3117 day, H7121 he read H5612 in the book H8451 of the law H430 of God. H6213 And they kept H2282 the feast H7651 seven H3117 days; H8066 and on the eighth H3117 day H6116 was a solemn H6116 assembly, H4941 according to the manner.
