Deuteronomy 20 When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, and chariots, and a people more than you, be not afraid of them: for the LORD your God is with you, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

1 H3588 When H3318 you go H4421 out to battle H5921 against H341 your enemies, H7200 and see H5483 horses, H7393 and chariots, H5971 and a people H7227 more H3372 than you, be not afraid H3068 of them: for the LORD H430 your God H834 is with you, which H5927 brought H776 you up out of the land H4714 of Egypt.

2 H7126 And it shall be, when you are come H7126 near H4421 to the battle, H3548 that the priest H5066 shall approach H1696 and speak H5971 to the people,

3 H559 And shall say H8085 to them, Hear, H3478 O Israel, H7126 you approach H3117 this day H4421 to battle H5921 against H341 your enemies: H3824 let not your hearts H7401 faint, H3372 fear H2648 not, and do not tremble, H408 neither H6206 be you terrified H6440 because of them;

4 H3068 For the LORD H430 your God H1980 is he that goes H3898 with you, to fight H5973 for you against H341 your enemies, H3467 to save you.

5 H7860 And the officers H1696 shall speak H5971 to the people, H559 saying, H4310 What H376 man H1129 is there that has built H2319 a new H1004 house, H2596 and has not dedicated H3212 it? let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H6435 lest H4191 he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2596 dedicate it.

6 H4310 And what H376 man H5193 is he that has planted H3754 a vineyard, H2490 and has not yet eaten H3212 of it? let him also go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H6435 lest H4191 he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2490 eat of it.

7 H4310 And what H376 man H781 is there that has betrothed H802 a wife, H3947 and has not taken H3212 her? let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H6435 lest H4191 he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H3947 take her.

8 H7860 And the officers H1696 shall speak H3254 further H5971 to the people, H559 and they shall say, H4310 What H376 man H3373 is there that is fearful H7390 and fainthearted? H3212 let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H6435 lest H251 his brethren’s H3824 heart H4549 faint H3824 as well as his heart.

9 H7860 And it shall be, when the officers H3615 have made an end H1696 of speaking H5971 to the people H8269 that they shall make captains H6635 of the armies H7218 to lead H5971 the people.

10 H3588 When H7126 you come H7126 near H5892 to a city H3898 to fight H5921 against H7121 it, then proclaim H7965 peace to it.

11 H518 And it shall be, if H6030 it make you answer H7965 of peace, H6605 and open H3605 to you, then it shall be, that all H5971 the people H4672 that is found H4522 therein shall be tributaries H5647 to you, and they shall serve you.

12 H518 And if H3808 it will make no H7999 peace H4421 with you, but will make war H5973 against H6696 you, then you shall besiege it:

13 H3068 And when the LORD H430 your God H5414 has delivered H3027 it into your hands, H5221 you shall smite H3605 every H2138 male H6310 thereof with the edge H2719 of the sword:

14 H802 But the women, H2945 and the little H929 ones, and the cattle, H3605 and all H5892 that is in the city, H3605 even all H7998 the spoil H962 thereof, shall you take H398 to yourself; and you shall eat H7998 the spoil H341 of your enemies, H834 which H3068 the LORD H430 your God H5414 has given you.

15 H3651 Thus H6213 shall you do H3605 to all H5892 the cities H3966 which are very H7350 far H834 off from you, which H5892 are not of the cities H428 of these H2007 H1471 nations.

16 H5892 But of the cities H428 of these H5971 people, H834 which H3068 the LORD H430 your God H5414 does give H5159 you for an inheritance, H2421 you shall save H2421 alive H3808 nothing H3605 H5397 that breathes:

17 H2763 But you shall utterly destroy H2850 them; namely, the Hittites, H567 and the Amorites, H3669 the Canaanites, H6522 and the Perizzites, H2340 the Hivites, H2983 and the Jebusites; H3068 as the LORD H430 your God H6680 has commanded you:

18 H3925 That they teach H6213 you not to do H3605 after all H8441 their abominations, H834 which H430 they have done to their gods; H2398 so should you sin H3068 against the LORD H430 your God.

19 H3588 When H6696 you shall besiege H5892 a city H7227 a long H3117 time, H3898 in making war H5921 against H8610 it to take H7843 it, you shall not destroy H6086 the trees H5080 thereof by forcing H1631 an ax H5921 against H398 them: for you may eat H3772 of them, and you shall not cut H6086 them down (for the tree H7704 of the field H120 is man’s H935 life) to employ H6440 H4692 them in the siege:

20 H7535 Only H6086 the trees H834 which H3045 you know H6086 that they be not trees H3978 for meat, H7843 you shall destroy H3772 and cut H1129 them down; and you shall build H4692 bulwarks H5921 against H5892 the city H6213 that makes H4421 war H5704 with you, until H3381 it be subdued.
