1 Samuel 20 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is my iniquity? and what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?

1 H1732 And David H1272 fled H5121 from Naioth H7414 in Ramah, H935 and came H559 and said H6440 before H3083 Jonathan, H4100 What H6213 have I done? H4100 what H5771 is my iniquity? H4100 and what H2403 is my sin H6440 before H1 your father, H1245 that he seeks H5315 my life?

2 H559 And he said H2486 to him, God forbid; H4191 you shall not die: H2009 behold, H1 my father H6213 will do H3808 nothing H1697 H1419 either great H176 or H6996 small, H1540 but that he will show H4069 it me: and why H1 should my father H5641 hide H2088 this H1697 thing from me? it is not so.

3 H1732 And David H7650 swore H5750 moreover, H559 and said, H1 Your father H3045 certainly knows H4672 that I have found H2580 grace H5869 in your eyes; H559 and he said, H3083 Let not Jonathan H3045 know H2063 this, H6435 lest H6087 he be grieved: H199 but truly H3068 as the LORD H2416 lives, H5315 and as your soul H2416 lives, H6587 there is but a step H996 between H4194 me and death.

4 H559 Then said H3083 Jonathan H1732 to David, H4100 Whatever H5315 your soul H559 desires, H6213 I will even do it for you.

5 H1732 And David H559 said H3083 to Jonathan, H2009 Behold, H4279 to morrow H2320 is the new H2320 moon, H3427 and I should not fail to sit H4428 with the king H398 at meat: H7971 but let me go, H5641 that I may hide H7704 myself in the field H7992 to the third H6153 day at even.

6 H518 If H1 your father H6485 at all miss H559 me, then say, H1732 David H7592 earnestly asked H7323 leave of me that he might run H1035 to Bethlehem H5892 his city: H3117 for there is a yearly H2077 sacrifice H8033 there H3605 for all H4940 the family.

7 H518 If H559 he say H3541 thus, H2896 It is well; H5650 your servant H7965 shall have peace: H518 but if H2734 he be very wroth, H3045 then be sure H7451 that evil H3615 is determined by him.

8 H6213 Therefore you shall deal H2617 kindly H5650 with your servant; H935 for you have brought H5650 your servant H1285 into a covenant H3068 of the LORD H518 with you: notwithstanding, if H5771 there be in me iniquity, H4191 slay H859 me yourself; H4100 for why H935 should you bring H1 me to your father?

9 H3083 And Jonathan H559 said, H2486 Far H518 be it from you: for if H3045 I knew H7451 certainly that evil H3615 were determined H1 by my father H935 to come H5046 on you, then would not I tell it you?

10 H559 Then said H1732 David H3083 to Jonathan, H4310 Who H5046 shall tell H176 me? or H4100 what H176 if H1 your father H6030 answer H7186 you roughly?

11 H3083 And Jonathan H559 said H1732 to David, H3212 Come, H3318 and let us go H7704 out into the field. H3318 And they went H8147 out both H7704 of them into the field.

12 H3083 And Jonathan H559 said H1732 to David, H3068 O LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel, H3588 when H2713 I have sounded H1 my father H4279 about to morrow H6256 any time, H7992 or the third H2009 day, and, behold, H2896 if there be good H413 toward H1732 David, H227 and I then H7971 send H1540 not to you, and show it you;

13 H3068 The LORD H6213 do H3541 so H3254 and much H3254 more H3083 to Jonathan: H3588 but if H3190 it please H1 my father H7451 to do you evil, H1540 then I will show H7971 it you, and send H1980 you away, that you may go H7965 in peace: H3068 and the LORD H1961 be with you, as he has been H1 with my father.

14 H518 And you shall not only while H5750 yet H2416 I live H6213 show H2617 me the kindness H3068 of the LORD, H4191 that I die not:

15 H3772 But also you shall not cut H2617 off your kindness H1004 from my house H5769 for ever: H3068 no, not when the LORD H3772 has cut H341 off the enemies H1732 of David H376 every H376 one H6440 from the face H127 of the earth.

16 H3083 So Jonathan H3772 made H1004 a covenant with the house H1732 of David, H3068 saying, Let the LORD H1245 even require H3027 it at the hand H1732 of David’s H341 enemies.

17 H3083 And Jonathan H1732 caused David H7650 to swear H3254 again, H160 because he loved H157 him: for he loved H160 him as he loved H5315 his own soul.

18 H3083 Then Jonathan H559 said H1732 to David, H4279 To morrow H2320 is the new H2320 moon: H6485 and you shall be missed, H3588 because H4186 your seat H6485 will be empty.

19 H8027 And when you have stayed three H3381 days, then you shall go H3381 down H3966 quickly, H935 and come H4725 to the place H834 where H8033 H5641 you did hide H4639 yourself when the business H3427 was in hand, and shall remain H68 by the stone H237 Ezel.

20 H3384 And I will shoot H7969 three H2671 arrows H6654 on the side H7971 thereof, as though I shot H4307 at a mark.

21 H2009 And, behold, H7971 I will send H5288 a lad, H3212 saying, Go, H4672 find H2671 out the arrows. H518 If H559 I expressly H559 say H5288 to the lad, H2009 Behold, H2671 the arrows H2007 are on this H3947 side of you, take H935 them; then come H7965 you: for there is peace H369 to you, and no H1697 hurt; H3068 as the LORD H2416 lives.

22 H518 But if H559 I say H3541 thus H5958 to the young H5958 man, H2009 Behold, H2671 the arrows H1973 are beyond H3212 you; go H3212 your way: H3068 for the LORD H7971 has sent you away.

23 H1697 And as touching the matter H834 which H1696 you and I have spoken H2009 of, behold, H3068 the LORD H996 be between H5769 you and me for ever.

24 H1732 So David H5641 hid H7704 himself in the field: H2320 and when the new H2320 moon H1961 was come, H4428 the king H3427 sat H398 him down to eat H3899 meat.

25 H4428 And the king H3427 sat H4186 on his seat, H6471 as at other times, H4186 even on a seat H7023 by the wall: H3083 and Jonathan H6965 arose, H74 and Abner H3427 sat H7586 by Saul’s H6654 side, H1732 and David’s H4725 place H6485 was empty.

26 H7586 Nevertheless Saul H1696 spoke H3972 not any H3117 thing that day: H559 for he thought, H4745 Something H4745 has befallen H2889 him, he is not clean; H3588 surely H2889 he is not clean.

27 H1961 And it came H4283 to pass on the morrow, H8145 which was the second H2320 day of the month, H1732 that David’s H4725 place H6485 was empty: H7586 and Saul H559 said H3083 to Jonathan H1121 his son, H4069 Why H935 comes H1121 not the son H3448 of Jesse H3899 to meat, H1571 neither H8543 yesterday, H1571 nor H3117 to day?

28 H3083 And Jonathan H6030 answered H7586 Saul, H1732 David H7592 earnestly asked H1035 leave of me to go to Bethlehem:

29 H559 And he said, H7971 Let me go, H4994 I pray H4940 you; for our family H2077 has a sacrifice H5892 in the city; H251 and my brother, H6680 he has commanded H6258 me to be there: and now, H518 if H4672 I have found H2580 favor H5869 in your eyes, H4422 let me get H4422 away, H4994 I pray H7200 you, and see H251 my brothers. H5921 Therefore H3651 H935 he comes H4428 not to the king’s H7979 table.

30 H7586 Then Saul’s H639 anger H2734 was kindled H3083 against Jonathan, H559 and he said H1121 to him, You son H5753 of the perverse H4780 rebellious H3045 woman, do not I know H977 that you have chosen H1121 the son H3448 of Jesse H1322 to your own confusion, H1322 and to the confusion H517 of your mother’s H6172 nakedness?

31 H3117 For as long H1121 as the son H3448 of Jesse H2425 lives H127 on the ground, H3559 you shall not be established, H4438 nor your kingdom. H6258 Why now H7971 send H3947 and fetch H4191 him to me, for he shall surely die.

32 H3083 And Jonathan H6030 answered H7586 Saul H1 his father, H559 and said H4100 to him, Why H4191 shall he be slain? H4100 what H6213 has he done?

33 H7586 And Saul H2904 cast H2595 a javelin H5921 at H5221 him to smite H3083 him: whereby Jonathan H3045 knew H3615 that it was determined H1 of his father H4191 to slay H1732 David.

34 H3083 So Jonathan H6965 arose H7979 from the table H2750 in fierce H639 anger, H398 and did eat H3808 no H3899 meat H8145 the second H3117 day H2320 of the month: H6087 for he was grieved H1732 for David, H3588 because H1 his father H3637 had done him shame.

35 H1961 And it came H1242 to pass in the morning, H3083 that Jonathan H3318 went H7704 out into the field H4150 at the time appointed H1732 with David, H6996 and a little H5288 lad with him.

36 H559 And he said H5288 to his lad, H7323 Run, H4672 find H4994 out now H2671 the arrows H834 which H3384 I shoot. H5288 And as the lad H7323 ran, H3384 he shot H2678 an arrow H5674 beyond him.

37 H5288 And when the lad H935 was come H4725 to the place H2678 of the arrow H834 which H3083 Jonathan H3384 had shot, H3083 Jonathan H7121 cried H311 after H5288 the lad, H559 and said, H2678 Is not the arrow H1973 beyond you?

38 H3083 And Jonathan H7121 cried H311 after H5288 the lad, H4120 Make speed, H2363 haste, H5975 stay H3129 not. And Jonathan’s H5288 lad H3950 gathered H2678 up the arrows, H935 and came H113 to his master.

39 H5288 But the lad H3045 knew H3972 not any H389 thing: only H3083 Jonathan H1732 and David H3045 knew H1697 the matter.

40 H3083 And Jonathan H5414 gave H3627 his artillery H5288 to his lad, H559 and said H3212 to him, Go, H935 carry H5892 them to the city.

41 H5288 And as soon as the lad H935 was gone, H1732 David H6965 arose H681 out of a place toward H5045 the south, H5307 and fell H639 on his face H776 to the ground, H7812 and bowed H7969 himself three H6471 times: H5401 and they kissed H376 one H7453 another, H1058 and wept H376 one H7453 with another, H5704 until H1732 David H1431 exceeded.

42 H3083 And Jonathan H559 said H1732 to David, H3212 Go H7965 in peace, H7650 for as much as we have sworn H8147 both H8034 of us in the name H3068 of the LORD, H559 saying, H3068 The LORD H996 be between H996 me and you, and between H2233 my seed H2233 and your seed H5769 for ever. H6965 And he arose H3212 and departed: H3083 and Jonathan H935 went H5892 into the city.
