Deuteronomy 29 These are the words of the covenant, which the lord gave charge to Moses to establish with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant of which he ordained with them in Horeb.

4 G2532 And G3756 [³did not give G1325 G2962 ¹ the lord G3588 G2316 ²God] G1473 to you G2588 a heart G1492 to behold, G2532 and G3788 eyes G991 to see, G2532 and G3775 ears G191 to hear, G2193 until G3588 G2250 this day. G3778

7 G2532 And G2064 you came G2193 unto G3588 G5117 this place. G3778 G2532 And G1831 came forth G* Sihon G935 king G* of Heshbon, G2532 and G* Og G935 king G* of Bashan G1519 to G4877 meet G1473 us G1722 in G4171 war.

8 G2532 And G3960 we struck G1473 them, G2532 and G2983 we took G3588 G1093 their land, G1473 G2532 and G1325 we gave G1473 it G1722 by G2819 lot G3588 G* to Reuben, G2532 and G3588 G* to Gad, G2532 and G3588 to the G2255 half G5443 tribe G* of Manasseh.

11 G3588 G1135 your wives, G1473 G2532 and G3588 G5043 your children, G1473 G2532 and G3588 the G4339 foreigner G3588 G1722 in G3319 the midst G3588 G3925 of your camp; G1473 G575 from G3585.1 your woodcutter G1473 G2532 and G2193 unto G5202.1 your water-carrier, G1473

12 G3928 to go G1722 in G3588 the G1242 covenant G2962 of the lord G3588 G2316 your God, G1473 G2532 and G1722 in G3588 G685 his oaths, G1473 G3745 as many as G2962 the lord G3588 G2316 your God G1473 G1303 ordains G4314 for G1473 you G4594 today.

13 G2443 That G2476 he should establish G1473 you G1473 to himself G1519 for G2992 a people, G2532 and G1473 he G1510.8.3 will be G1473 your G2316 God, G3739 in which G5158 manner G2036 he said G1473 to you, G2532 and G3739 in which G5158 manner G3660 he swore by an oath G3588 to G3962 your fathers -- G1473 G* Abraham G2532 and G* Isaac G2532 and G* Jacob.

16 G3754 For G1473 you G1492 know G5613 how G2730 we dwelt G1722 in G1093 the land G* of Egypt, G5613 as G3928 we went by G1722 in G3319 the midst G3588 of the G1484 nations G3739 which G3928 you went by.

17 G2532 And G1492 you beheld G3588 G946 their abominations, G1473 G2532 and G3588 G1497 their idols -- G1473 G3586 wood G2532 and G3037 stone, G694 silver G2532 and G5553 gold, G3739 which G1510.2.3 is G3844 among G1473 them.

18 G3361 Lest G5100 G1510.2.3 there is G1722 among G1473 you, G435 a man G2228 or G1135 woman, G2228 or G3965 family G2228 or G5443 tribe, G5100 whose G3588 G1271 thought G1578 turned aside G575 from G2962 the lord G3588 G2316 your God, G1473 G4198 to go G3000 to serve G3588 to the G2316 gods G3588 G1484 of those nations; G1565 G3385 lest G1510.2.3 there is G1722 among G1473 you G4491 a root G507 [⁵upward G5453 ¹germinating G5521 ²bile G2532 ³and G4088 ⁴bitterness].

19 G2532 And G1510.8.3 it shall be G1437 if G191 you should hear G3588 the G4487 words G3588 G685 of this imprecation, G3778 G2532 and G2018.1 one should portend G1722 in G3588 G2588 his heart, G1473 G3004 saying, G3741 [²sacred things G1473 ⁴to me G1096 ¹May ³happen], G3754 for G1722 [²by G3588 ³the G635.1 ⁴digression G3588 G2588 ⁵of my heart G1473 G4198 ¹I shall go], G2443 that G3361 [³should not G4881 ⁴be destroyed together with G3588 ¹the G268 ²sinner] G3588 the G361 sinless,

21 G2532 And G1291 [²shall separate him G1473 G2962 ¹ the lord] G1519 for G2556 evils G1537 from G3956 all G3588 the G5207 sons G* of Israel, G2596 according to G3956 all G3588 the G685 imprecations G3588 of the G1242 covenant, G3588 the ones G1125 being written G1722 in G3588 G975 [²scroll G3588 ³of the G3551 ⁴law G3778 ¹this].

22 G2532 And G2046 [³shall say G3588 G1074 ²generation G3588 G2087 ¹another] -- G3588 even G5207 your sons G1473 G3739 who G450 rise up G3326 after G1473 you, G2532 and G3588 the G245 alien G3739 which G302 ever G2064 should come G1537 from out of G1093 a land G3113 far off, G2532 that G3708 they shall see G3588 the G4127 calamities G3588 G1093 of that land, G1565 G2532 and G3588 G3554 its diseases, G1473 G3739 which G649 the lord sent G2962 G1909 unto G1473 it,

23 G2303 sulphur G2532 and G251 salt G2618 incinerating; G3956 all G3588 G1093 its land G1473 G3756 shall not G4687 be sown, G3761 nor G393 shall rise, G3762.1 nor G305 should ascend G1909 upon G1473 it G3956 any G5515 green thing . G5618 As G2690 [⁴were eradicated G* ¹Sodom G2532 ²and G* ³Gomorrah] -- G* Admah G2532 and G* Zeboim, G3739 which G2690 the lord eradicated G2962 G1722 in G2372 rage G2532 and G3709 anger,

24 G2532 and G2046 [⁴shall say G3956 ¹all G3588 ²the G1484 ³nations], G1302 Why G4160 did [²do G2962 ¹ the lord] G3779 thus G3588 G1093 to this land? G3778 G5100 What is G3588 G2372 [²rage G3588 G3709 ³of anger G3588 G3173 ¹this great]? G3778

25 G2532 And G2046 they shall say, G3754 Because G2641 they left G3588 the G1242 covenant G2962 of the lord, G3588 G2316 God G3588 G3962 of their fathers, G1473 G3739 which G1303 he ordained G3588 with G3962 their fathers, G1473 G3753 when G1806 he led G1473 them G1537 out of G1093 the land G* of Egypt.

26 G2532 And G4198 going, G3000 they served G2316 other gods, G2087 G2532 and G4352 they did obeisance G1473 to them, G3739 ones which G3756 they had no knowledge of, G1987 G3761 nor G1268 knowledge spread G1473 to them.

27 G2532 And G3710 [²was provoked to anger G2372 ³in rage G2962 ¹ the lord] G1909 over G3588 G1093 that land, G1473 G1863 to bring G1909 upon G1473 it G2596 according to G3956 all G3588 the G685 imprecations G3588 G1125 being written G1722 in G3588 G975 [²scroll G3588 ³of the G3551 ⁴law G3778 ¹this].

28 G2532 And G1808 [²lifted G1473 ³them G2962 ¹ the lord] G575 from G3588 G1093 their land G1473 G1722 in G2372 rage G2532 and G3709 anger, G2532 and G3948 [³fit of temper G3173 ²great G4970 ¹an exceedingly], G2532 and G1544 cast G1473 them G1519 into G1093 [²land G2087 ¹another] G5616 as G3568 now.

29 G3588 The G2927 secret things belong G2962 to the lord G3588 G2316 your God. G1473 G3588 But the G1161 G5318 open things are G1473 to you, G2532 and G3588 to G5043 your children G1473 G1519 into G3588 the G165 eon, G4160 to do G3956 all G3588 the G4487 words G3588 G3551 of this law. G3778

3 H4531 המסות temptations H1419 הגדלת The great H834 אשׁר which H7200 ראו have seen, H5869 עיניך thine eyes H226 האתת the signs, H4159 והמפתים miracles: H1419 הגדלים great H1992 ההם׃ and those

4 H3808 ולא hath not H5414 נתן given H3068 יהוה Yet the LORD H3820 לכם לב you a heart H3045 לדעת to perceive, H5869 ועינים and eyes H7200 לראות to see, H241 ואזנים and ears H8085 לשׁמע to hear, H5704 עד unto H3117 היום day. H2088 הזה׃ this

5 H1980 ואולך And I have led H853 אתכם H705 ארבעים you forty H8141 שׁנה years H4057 במדבר in the wilderness: H3808 לא are not H1086 בלו waxen old H8008 שׂלמתיכם your clothes H5921 מעליכם upon H5275 ונעלך you, and thy shoe H3808 לא is not H1086 בלתה waxen old H5921 מעל upon H7272 רגלך׃ thy foot.

6 H3899 לחם bread, H3808 לא Ye have not H398 אכלתם eaten H3196 ויין wine H7941 ושׁכר or strong drink: H3808 לא neither H8354 שׁתיתם have ye drunk H4616 למען that H3045 תדעו ye might know H3588 כי that H589 אני I H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהיכם׃ your God.

7 H935 ותבאו And when ye came H413 אל unto H4725 המקום place, H2088 הזה this H3318 ויצא came out H5511 סיחן Sihon H4428 מלך the king H2809 חשׁבון of Heshbon, H5747 ועוג and Og H4428 מלך the king H1316 הבשׁן of Bashan, H7125 לקראתנו against H4421 למלחמה us unto battle, H5221 ונכם׃ and we smote

8 H3947 ונקח And we took H853 את H776 ארצם their land, H5414 ונתנה and gave H5159 לנחלה it for an inheritance H7206 לראובני unto the Reubenites, H1425 ולגדי and to the Gadites, H2677 ולחצי and to the half H7626 שׁבט tribe H4520 המנשׁי׃ of Manasseh.

9 H8104 ושׁמרתם Keep H853 את H1697 דברי therefore the words H1285 הברית covenant, H2063 הזאת of this H6213 ועשׂיתם and do H853 אתם H4616 למען them, that H7919 תשׂכילו ye may prosper H853 את H3605 כל in all H834 אשׁר that H6213 תעשׂון׃ ye do.

10 H859 אתם Ye H5324 נצבים stand H3117 היום this day H3605 כלכם all H6440 לפני of you before H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהיכם your God; H7218 ראשׁיכם your captains H7626 שׁבטיכם of your tribes, H2205 זקניכם your elders, H7860 ושׁטריכם and your officers, H3605 כל all H376 אישׁ the men H3478 ישׂראל׃ of Israel,

11 H2945 טפכם Your little ones, H802 נשׁיכם your wives, H1616 וגרך and thy stranger H834 אשׁר that H7130 בקרב in H4264 מחניך thy camp, H2404 מחטב from the hewer H6086 עציך of thy wood H5704 עד unto H7579 שׁאב the drawer H4325 מימיך׃ of thy water:

12 H5674 לעברך That thou shouldest enter H1285 בברית into covenant H3068 יהוה with the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God, H423 ובאלתו and into his oath, H834 אשׁר which H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God H3772 כרת maketh H5973 עמך with H3117 היום׃ thee this day:

13 H4616 למען That H6965 הקים he may establish H853 אתך H3117 היום thee today H5971 לו לעם for a people H1931 והוא unto himself, and he H1961 יהיה may be H430 לך לאלהים unto thee a God, H834 כאשׁר as H1696 דבר he hath said H834 לך וכאשׁר unto thee, and as H7650 נשׁבע he hath sworn H1 לאבתיך unto thy fathers, H85 לאברהם to Abraham, H3327 ליצחק to Isaac, H3290 וליעקב׃ and to Jacob.

14 H3808 ולא Neither H854 אתכם with H905 לבדכם you only H595 אנכי do I H3772 כרת make H853 את H1285 הברית covenant H2063 הזאת this H853 ואת H423 האלה oath; H2063 הזאת׃ and this

15 H3588 כי But H854 את with H834 אשׁר that H3426 ישׁנו H6311 פה here H5973 עמנו with H5975 עמד standeth H3117 היום us this day H6440 לפני before H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהינו our God, H854 ואת and also with H834 אשׁר that H369 איננו not H6311 פה here H5973 עמנו with H3117 היום׃ us this day:

16 H3588 כי (For H859 אתם ye H3045 ידעתם know H853 את H834 אשׁר how H3427 ישׁבנו we have dwelt H776 בארץ in the land H4714 מצרים of Egypt; H853 ואת H834 אשׁר and how H5674 עברנו we came H7130 בקרב through H1471 הגוים the nations H834 אשׁר which H5674 עברתם׃ ye passed by;

17 H7200 ותראו And ye have seen H853 את H8251 שׁקוציהם their abominations, H853 ואת H1544 גלליהם and their idols, H6086 עץ wood H68 ואבן and stone, H3701 כסף silver H2091 וזהב and gold, H834 אשׁר which H5973 עמהם׃ among

18 H6435 פן Lest H3426 ישׁ there should be H376 בכם אישׁ among you man, H176 או or H802 אשׁה woman, H176 או or H4940 משׁפחה family, H176 או or H7626 שׁבט tribe, H834 אשׁר whose H3824 לבבו heart H6437 פנה turneth away H3117 היום this day H5973 מעם from H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהינו our God, H1980 ללכת to go H5647 לעבד serve H853 את H430 אלהי the gods H1471 הגוים nations; H1992 ההם of these H6435 פן lest H3426 ישׁ there should be H8328 בכם שׁרשׁ among you a root H6509 פרה that beareth H7219 ראשׁ gall H3939 ולענה׃ and wormwood;

19 H1961 והיה And it come to pass, H8085 בשׁמעו when he heareth H853 את H1697 דברי the words H423 האלה curse, H2063 הזאת of this H1288 והתברך that he bless himself H3824 בלבבו in his heart, H559 לאמר saying, H7965 שׁלום peace, H1961 יהיה I shall have H3588 לי כי though H8307 בשׁררות in the imagination H3820 לבי of mine heart, H1980 אלך I walk H4616 למען to H5595 ספות add H7302 הרוה drunkenness H853 את H6771 הצמאה׃ thirst:

20 H3808 לא not H14 יאבה will H3068 יהוה The LORD H5545 סלח spare H3588 לו כי him, but H227 אז then H6225 יעשׁן shall smoke H639 אף the anger H3068 יהוה of the LORD H7068 וקנאתו and his jealousy H376 באישׁ man, H1931 ההוא against that H7257 ורבצה shall lie H3605 בו כל and all H423 האלה the curses H3789 הכתובה that are written H5612 בספר book H2088 הזה in this H4229 ומחה shall blot out H3068 יהוה upon him, and the LORD H853 את H8034 שׁמו his name H8478 מתחת from under H8064 השׁמים׃ heaven.

21 H914 והבדילו shall separate H3068 יהוה And the LORD H7451 לרעה him unto evil H3605 מכל out of all H7626 שׁבטי the tribes H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H3605 ככל according to all H423 אלות the curses H1285 הברית of the covenant H3789 הכתובה that are written H5612 בספר book H8451 התורה of the law: H2088 הזה׃ in this

22 H559 ואמר shall say, H1755 הדור So that the generation H314 האחרון to come H1121 בניכם of your children H834 אשׁר that H6965 יקומו shall rise up H310 מאחריכם after H5237 והנכרי you, and the stranger H834 אשׁר that H935 יבא shall come H776 מארץ land, H7350 רחוקה from a far H7200 וראו when they see H853 את H4347 מכות the plagues H776 הארץ land, H1931 ההוא of that H853 ואת H8463 תחלאיה and the sicknesses H834 אשׁר which H2470 חלה hath laid H3068 יהוה׃ the LORD

23 H1614 גפרית thereof brimstone, H4417 ומלח and salt, H8316 שׂרפה burning, H3605 כל the whole H776 ארצה land H3808 לא it is not H2232 תזרע sown, H3808 ולא nor H6779 תצמח beareth, H3808 ולא nor H5927 יעלה groweth H3605 בה כל any H6212 עשׂב grass H4114 כמהפכת therein, like the overthrow H5467 סדם of Sodom, H6017 ועמרה and Gomorrah, H126 אדמה Admah, H6636 וצביים and Zeboim, H834 אשׁר which H2015 הפך overthrew H3068 יהוה the LORD H639 באפו in his anger, H2534 ובחמתו׃ and in his wrath:

24 H559 ואמרו shall say, H3605 כל Even all H1471 הגוים nations H5921 על H4100 מה what H6213 עשׂה done H3068 יהוה hath the LORD H3602 ככה thus H776 לארץ land? H2063 הזאת unto this H4100 מה H2750 חרי the heat H639 האף anger? H1419 הגדול great H2088 הזה׃ of this

25 H559 ואמרו Then men shall say, H5921 על H834 אשׁר which H5800 עזבו they have forsaken H853 את H1285 ברית the covenant H3068 יהוה of the LORD H430 אלהי God H1 אבתם of their fathers, H834 אשׁר H3772 כרת he made H5973 עמם with H3318 בהוציאו H853 אתם H776 מארץ out of the land H4714 מצרים׃ of Egypt:

26 H1980 וילכו For they went H5647 ויעבדו and served H430 אלהים gods, H312 אחרים other H7812 וישׁתחוו and worshiped H430 להם אלהים them, gods H834 אשׁר whom H3808 לא not, H3045 ידעום they knew H3808 ולא and he had not H2505 חלק׃ given

27 H2734 ויחר was kindled H639 אף And the anger H3068 יהוה of the LORD H776 בארץ land, H1931 ההוא against this H935 להביא to bring H5921 עליה upon H853 את H3605 כל it all H7045 הקללה the curses H3789 הכתובה that are written H5612 בספר book: H2088 הזה׃ in this

28 H5428 ויתשׁם rooted them out H3068 יהוה And the LORD H5921 מעל of H127 אדמתם their land H639 באף in anger, H2534 ובחמה and in wrath, H7110 ובקצף indignation, H1419 גדול and in great H7993 וישׁלכם and cast H413 אל them into H776 ארץ land, H312 אחרת another H3117 כיום day. H2088 הזה׃ as this

29 H5641 הנסתרת The secret H3068 ליהוה unto the LORD H430 אלהינו our God: H1540 והנגלת but those revealed H1121 לנו ולבנינו unto us and to our children H5704 עד forever, H5769 עולם forever, H6213 לעשׂות that may do H853 את H3605 כל all H1697 דברי the words H8451 התורה law. H2063 הזאת׃ of this

Geneva⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ These are the wordes of the couenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the lande of Moab beside the couenant which hee had made with them in Horeb. ² And Moses called all Israel, and said vnto them, Ye haue seene all that the Lord did before your eyes in the lande of Egypt vnto Pharaoh and vnto all his seruantes, and vnto all his lande, ³ The great tentations which thine eyes haue seene, those great miracles and wonders: ⁴ Yet the Lord hath not giuen you an heart to perceiue, and eyes to see, and eares to heare, vnto this day. ⁵ And I haue led you fourty yere in the wildernesse: your clothes are not waxed olde vpon you, neyther is thy shooe waxed olde vpon thy foote. ⁶ Ye haue eaten no bread, neither drunke wine, nor strong drinke, that ye might know how that I am the Lord your God. ⁷ After, ye came vnto this place, and Sihon King of Heshbon, and Og King of Bashan came out against vs vnto battell, and we slewe them, ⁸ And tooke their lande, and gaue it for an inheritance vnto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the halfe tribe of Manasseh. ⁹ Keepe therefore the wordes of this couenant and doe them, that ye may prosper in all that ye shall doe. ¹⁰ Ye stand this day euery one of you before the Lord your God: your heads of your tribes, your Elders and your officers, eue al ye me of Israel: ¹¹ Your children, your wiues, and thy stranger that is in thy campe from the hewer of thy wood, vnto the drawer of thy water, ¹² That thou shouldest passe into the couenant of the Lord thy God, and into his othe which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day, ¹³ For to establish thee this day a people vnto him selfe, and that he may be vnto thee a God, as he hath said vnto thee, and as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers, Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob. ¹⁴ Neither make I this couenant, and this othe with you onely, ¹⁵ But aswel with him that standeth here with vs this day before the Lord our God, as with him that is not here with vs this day. ¹⁶ For ye knowe, how we haue dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we passed thorowe the middes of the nations, which ye passed by. ¹⁷ And ye haue seene their abominations and their idoles (wood, and stone, siluer and golde) which were among them, ¹⁸ That there should not be among you man nor woman, nor familie, nor tribe, which should turne his heart away this day from the Lord our God, to goe and serue the gods of these nations, and that there shoulde not be among you any roote that bringeth forth gall and wormewood, ¹⁹ So that when he heareth the words of this curse, he blesse him selfe in his heart, saying, I shall haue peace, although I walke according to the stubburnes of mine owne heart, thus adding drunkennesse to thirst. ²⁰ The Lord will not be mercifull vnto him, but then the wrath of the Lord and his ielousie shall smoke against that man, and euery curse that is written in this booke, shall light vpon him, and the Lord shall put out his name from vnder heauen, ²¹ And the Lord shall separate him vnto euil out of all the tribes of Israel, according vnto all the curses of the couenant, that is written in the booke of this Lawe. ²² So that the generatio to come, euen your children, that shall rise vp after you, and the stranger, that shall come from a farre lande, shall say, when they shall see the plagues of this lande, and the diseases thereof, wherewith the Lord shall smite it: ²³ (For all that land shall burne with brimstone and salt: it shall not be sowen, nor bring forth, nor any grasse shall growe therein, like as in the ouerthrowing of Sodom, and Gomorah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord ouerthrewe in his wrath and in his anger) ²⁴ Then shall all nations say, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus vnto this lande? how fierce is this great wrath? ²⁵ And they shall answere, Because they haue forsaken the couenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which he had made with them, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ And went and serued other gods and worshipped them: euen gods which they knewe not, and which had giuen them nothing, ²⁷ Therefore the wrath of the Lord waxed hot against this land, to bring vpon it euery curse that is written in this booke. ²⁸ And ye Lord hath rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and hath cast them into another land, as appeareth this day. ²⁹ The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things reueiled belong vnto vs, and to our children for euer, that we may doe all the wordes of this Lawe.
