Geneva(i) 1 To him that excelleth. Destroy not. A Psalme of David on Michtam. Is it true? O Congregation, speake ye iustly? O sonnes of men, iudge ye vprightly? 2 Yea, rather ye imagine mischiefe in your heart: your hands execute crueltie vpon the earth. 3 The wicked are strangers from ye wombe: euen from the belly haue they erred, and speake lyes. 4 Their poyson is euen like the poyson of a serpent: like ye deafe adder that stoppeth his eare. 5 Which heareth not the voyce of the inchanter, though he be most expert in charming. 6 Breake their teeth, O God, in their mouthes: breake the iawes of the yong lions, O Lord. 7 Let them melt like the waters, let them passe away: when hee shooteth his arrowes, let them be as broken. 8 Let them consume like a snayle that melteth, and like the vntimely fruite of a woman, that hath not seene the sunne. 9 As raw flesh before your pots feele the fire of thornes: so let him cary them away as with a whirlewinde in his wrath. 10 The righteous shall reioyce when he seeeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feete in the blood of the wicked. 11 And men shall say, Verily there is fruite for the righteous: doutlesse there is a God that iudgeth in the earth.
Bishops(i) 1 O ye that consult together, pronounce ye truely the thing that is iust? O ye sonnes of men iudge you according to equitie 2 Nay, rather ye imagine mischiefe in your heart: your handes waygh as in a ballaunce wickednes vpon the earth 3 The vngodly are straungers euen from their mothers wombe: assoone as they be borne, they go astray and speake a lye 4 (58:4a) They haue poyson [within them] lyke to the poyson of a serpent: they be lyke the deafe adder that stoppeth her eares 5 (58:4b) and wyll not heare the voyce of charmers, though he be neuer so skilfull in charming 6 (58:5) Breake their teeth O Lorde in their mouthes: smite a sunder the chawe bones of Lions O God 7 (58:6) Let them be dissolued as into water, let them come to naught of them selues: and when they shoote their arrowes, let them be as broken 8 (58:7) Let them creepe away lyke a snayle that foorthwith consumeth to naught: or lyke the vntimely fruite of a woman, let them not see the sunne 9 (58:8) As a greene thorne [kindled with fyre, goeth out] before your pottes be made whot: euen so let a furious rage bring him to naught 10 (58:9) The righteous wyll reioyce when he seeth the vengeaunce: he wyll washe his foote steppes in the blood of the vngodly 11 (58:10) And euery man shall say, veryly there is a rewarde for the righteous: doubtlesse there is a God that iudgeth in the earth

  1 H5329 To the chief Musician [H8764]   H516 , Altaschith [H8686]   H4387 , Michtam H1732 of David H552 . Do ye indeed H1696 speak [H8762]   H6664 righteousness H482 , O congregation H8199 ? do ye judge [H8799]   H4339 uprightly H1121 , O ye sons H120 of men?
  2 H3820 Yea, in heart H6466 ye work [H8799]   H5766 wickedness H6424 ; ye weigh [H8762]   H2555 the violence H3027 of your hands H776 in the earth.
  3 H7563 The wicked H2114 are estranged [H8804]   H7358 from the womb H8582 : they go astray [H8804]   H990 as soon as they be born H1696 , speaking [H8802]   H3577 lies.
  4 H2534 Their poison H1823 is like H2534 the poison H5175 of a serpent H2795 : they are like the deaf H6620 adder H331 that stoppeth [H8686]   H241 her ear;
  5 H8085 Which will not hearken [H8799]   H6963 to the voice H3907 of charmers [H8764]   H2266 , charming [H8802]   H2267   H2449 never so wisely [H8794]  .
  6 H2040 Break [H8798]   H8127 their teeth H430 , O God H6310 , in their mouth H5422 : break out [H8800]   H4459 the great teeth H3715 of the young lions H3068 , O LORD.
  7 H3988 Let them melt away [H8735]   H4325 as waters H1980 which run continually [H8691]   H1869 : when he bendeth [H8799]   H2671 his bow to shoot his arrows H4135 , let them be as cut in pieces [H8709]  .
  8 H7642 As a snail H8557 which melteth H1980 , let every one of them pass away [H8799]   H5309 : like the untimely birth H802 of a woman H2372 , that they may not see [H8804]   H8121 the sun.
  9 H5518 Before your pots H995 can feel [H8799]   H329 the thorns H8175 , he shall take them away as with a whirlwind [H8799]   H2416 , both living H2740 , and in his wrath.
  10 H6662 The righteous H8055 shall rejoice [H8799]   H2372 when he seeth [H8804]   H5359 the vengeance H7364 : he shall wash [H8799]   H6471 his feet H1818 in the blood H7563 of the wicked.
  11 H120 So that a man H559 shall say [H8799]   H6529 , Verily there is a reward H6662 for the righteous H3426 : verily he is H430 a God H8199 that judgeth [H8802]   H776 in the earth.
YLT(i) 1 To the Overseer. --`Destroy not.' --A secret treasure, by David. Is it true, O dumb one, righteously ye speak? Uprightly ye judge, O sons of men? 2 Even in heart ye work iniquities, In the land the violence of your hands ye ponder. 3 The wicked have been estranged from the womb, They have erred from the belly, speaking lies. 4 Their poison is as poison of a serpent, As a deaf asp shutting its ear, 5 Which hearkeneth not to the voice of whisperers, A charmer of charms most skilful.
6 O God, break their teeth in their mouth, The jaw-teeth of young lions break down, O Jehovah. 7 They are melted as waters, They go up and down for themselves, His arrow proceedeth as they cut themselves off. 8 As a snail that melteth he goeth on, As an untimely birth of a woman, They have not seen the sun. 9 Before your pots discern the bramble, As well the raw as the heated He whirleth away. 10 The righteous rejoiceth that he hath seen vengeance, His steps he washeth in the blood of the wicked. 11 And man saith: `Surely fruit is for the righteous: Surely there is a God judging in the earth!'
ASV(i) 1 Do ye indeed in silence speak righteousness? Do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men? 2 Nay, in heart ye work wickedness; Ye weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth. 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. 4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: They are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear, 5 Which hearkeneth not to the voice of charmers, Charming never so wisely. 6 Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: Break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Jehovah. 7 Let them melt away as water that runneth apace: When he aimeth his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off. 8 Let them be as a snail which melteth and passeth away, Like the untimely birth of a woman, that hath not seen the sun. 9 Before your pots can feel the thorns, He will take them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike. 10 The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked; 11 So that men shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: Verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth.
