Geneva(i) 1 To him that excelleth upon Aiieleth Hasshahar. A Psalme of Dauid. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me, and art so farre from mine health, and from the wordes of my roaring? 2 O my God, I crie by day, but thou hearest not, and by night, but haue no audience. 3 But thou art holy, and doest inhabite the prayses of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didest deliuer them. 5 They called vpon thee, and were deliuered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. 6 But I am a worme, and not a man: a shame of men, and the contempt of the people. 7 All they that see me, haue me in derision: they make a mowe and nod the head, saying, 8 He trusted in the Lord, let him deliuer him: let him saue him, seeing he loueth him. 9 But thou didest draw me out of ye wombe: thou gauest me hope, euen at my mothers breasts. 10 I was cast vpon thee, euen from ye wombe: thou art my God from my mothers belly. 11 Be not farre from me, because trouble is neere: for there is none to helpe me. 12 Many yong bulles haue compassed me: mightie bulles of Bashan haue closed me about. 13 They gape vpon me with their mouthes, as a ramping and roaring lyon. 14 I am like water powred out, and all my bones are out of ioynt: mine heart is like waxe: it is molten in the middes of my bowels. 15 My strength is dryed vp like a potsheard, and my tongue cleaueth to my iawes, and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogges haue compassed me, and the assemblie of the wicked haue inclosed me: they perced mine hands and my feete. 17 I may tell all my bones: yet they beholde, and looke vpon me. 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lottes vpon my vesture. 19 But be thou not farre off, O Lord, my strength: hasten to helpe me. 20 Deliuer my soule from the sword: my desolate soule from the power of the dogge. 21 Saue me from the lyons mouth, and answere me in sauing me from the hornes of the vnicornes. 22 I wil declare thy Name vnto my brethren: in the middes of the Congregation will I praise thee, saying, 23 Prayse the Lord, ye that feare him: magnifie ye him, all the seede of Iaakob, and feare ye him, all the seede of Israel. 24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred ye affliction of the poore: neither hath he hid his face from him, but when he called vnto him, he heard. 25 My prayse shalbe of thee in the great Congregation: my vowes will I perfourme before them that feare him. 26 The poore shall eate and be satisfied: they that seeke after the Lord, shall prayse him: your heart shall liue for euer. 27 All the endes of the worlde shall remember themselues, and turne to the Lord: and all the kinreds of the nations shall worship before thee. 28 For the kingdome is the Lords, and he ruleth among the nations. 29 All they that be fat in the earth, shall eate and worship: all they that go downe into the dust, shall bowe before him, euen he that cannot quicken his owne soule. 30 Their seede shall serue him: it shalbe counted vnto the Lord for a generation. 31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousnesse vnto a people that shall be borne, because he hath done it.
Bishops(i) 1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [why] art thou so farre from my health, and from the wordes of my complaynt 2 O my God I crye all the day tyme, and in the night season, and I ceasse not: but thou hearest not 3 And yet thou most holy: sittest to receaue the prayers of Israel 4 Our fathers hoped in thee: they trusted in thee, & thou didst deliuer them 5 They called vpon thee, and they were helped: they did put their trust in thee, and they were not confounded 6 But as for me I am a worme and no man: a very scorne of men, and an outcast of the people 7 All they that see me, laugh me to scorne: they do make a mowe, and nod their head [at me. 8 [Saying] he referreth [all] to God, [loking that God] wyll deliuer him [and] rescue him: for he delighteth only in him 9 But thou art he that tokest me out of my mothers wombe: thou causedst me to trust in thee, suckyng my mothers breastes 10 I haue ben left vnto thee euer since I was borne: thou art my God euen from my mothers wombe 11 O go not far fro me, for trouble is harde at hande: and there is none to helpe me 12 Many oxen are come about me: fat [bulles] of Bashan close me in on euery syde 13 They gape vpon me with their mouthes: as it were a rampyng and a roryng lion 14 I am as [it were] into water resolued, and all my bones are out of ioynt: my heart also is like waxe melted in the middest of my bowels 15 My strength is dried vp like a potsheard, & my tongue cleaueth to my gummes: and thou hast brought me into the dust of death 16 (22:16a) For dogges are come about me, the assemble of the wicked lay siege agaynst me: they haue pearced my handes and my feete 17 (22:16b) I may tell all my bones.   2 H430 O my God H7121 , I cry [H8799]   H3119 in the daytime H6030 , but thou hearest [H8799]   H3915 not; and in the night season H1747 , and am not silent.
  3 H6918 But thou art holy H3427 , O thou that inhabitest [H8802]   H8416 the praises H3478 of Israel.
  4 H1 Our fathers H982 trusted [H8804]   H982 in thee: they trusted [H8804]   H6403 , and thou didst deliver [H8762]   them.
  5 H2199 They cried [H8804]   H4422 unto thee, and were delivered [H8738]   H982 : they trusted [H8804]   H954 in thee, and were not confounded [H8804]  .
  6 H8438 But I am a worm H376 , and no man H2781 ; a reproach H120 of men H959 , and despised [H8803]   H5971 of the people.
  7 H7200 All they that see [H8802]   H3932 me laugh me to scorn [H8686]   H6358 : they shoot out [H8686]   H8193 the lip H5128 , they shake [H8686]   H7218 the head, saying,
8 H1556 He trusted [H8800]   H3068 on the LORD H6403 that he would deliver [H8762]   H5337 him: let him deliver [H8686]   H2654 him, seeing he delighted [H8804]   in him.
9 H1518 But thou art he that took [H8801]   H990 me out of the womb H982 : thou didst make me hope [H8688]   H517 when I was upon my mother's H7699 breasts.
  10 H7993 I was cast [H8717]   H7358 upon thee from the womb H410 : thou art my God H517 from my mother's H990 belly.
11 H7368 Be not far [H8799]   H6869 from me; for trouble H7138 is near H5826 ; for there is none to help [H8802]  .
  12 H7227 Many H6499 bulls H5437 have compassed [H8804]   H47 me: strong H1316 bulls of Bashan H3803 have beset me round [H8765]  .
  13 H6475 They gaped [H8804]   H6310 upon me with their mouths H2963 , as a ravening [H8802]   H7580 and a roaring [H8802]   H738 lion.
14 H8210 I am poured out [H8738]   H4325 like water H6106 , and all my bones H6504 are out of joint [H8694]   H3820 : my heart H1749 is like wax H4549 ; it is melted [H8738]   H8432 in the midst H4578 of my bowels.
15 H3581 My strength H3001 is dried up [H8804]   H2789 like a potsherd H3956 ; and my tongue H1692 cleaveth [H8716]   H4455 to my jaws H8239 ; and thou hast brought [H8799]   H6083 me into the dust H4194 of death.
  16 H3611 For dogs H5437 have compassed [H8804]   H5712 me: the assembly H7489 of the wicked [H8688]   H5362 have inclosed [H8689]   H3738 me: they pierced [H8804]   [H8675]   H738   H3027 my hands H7272 and my feet.
  17 H5608 I may tell [H8762]   H6106 all my bones H5027 : they look [H8686]   H7200 and stare [H8799]   upon me.
18 H2505 They part [H8762]   H899 my garments H5307 among them, and cast [H8686]   H1486 lots H3830 upon my vesture.
  19 H7368 But be not thou far [H8799]   H3068 from me, O LORD H360 : O my strength H2363 , haste [H8798]   H5833 thee to help me.
20 H5337 Deliver [H8685]   H5315 my soul H2719 from the sword H3173 ; my darling H3027 from the power H3611 of the dog.
  21 H3467 Save [H8685]   H738 me from the lion's H6310 mouth H6030 : for thou hast heard [H8804]   H7161 me from the horns H7214 of the unicorns.
  22 H5608 I will declare [H8762]   H8034 thy name H251 unto my brethren H8432 : in the midst H6951 of the congregation H1984 will I praise [H8762]   thee.
23 H3373 Ye that fear H3068 the LORD H1984 , praise [H8761]   H2233 him; all ye the seed H3290 of Jacob H3513 , glorify [H8761]   H1481 him; and fear [H8798]   H2233 him, all ye the seed H3478 of Israel.
24 H959 For he hath not despised [H8804]   H8262 nor abhorred [H8765]   H6039 the affliction H6041 of the afflicted H5641 ; neither hath he hid [H8689]   H6440 his face H7768 from him; but when he cried [H8763]   H8085 unto him, he heard [H8804]  .
25 H8416 My praise H7227 shall be of thee in the great H6951 congregation H7999 : I will pay [H8762]   H5088 my vows H3373 before them that fear him.
  26 H6035 The meek H398 shall eat [H8799]   H7646 and be satisfied [H8799]   H1984 : they shall praise [H8762]   H3068 the LORD H1875 that seek [H8802]   H3824 him: your heart H2421 shall live [H8799]   H5703 for ever.
27 H657 All the ends H776 of the world H2142 shall remember [H8799]   H7725 and turn [H8799]   H3068 unto the LORD H4940 : and all the kindreds H1471 of the nations H7812 shall worship [H8691]   H6440 before thee.
28 H4410 For the kingdom H3068 is the LORD'S H4910 : and he is the governor [H8802]   H1471 among the nations.
29 H1879 All they that be fat H776 upon earth H398 shall eat [H8804]   H7812 and worship [H8691]   H3381 : all they that go down [H8802]   H6083 to the dust H3766 shall bow [H8799]   H6440 before H2421 him: and none can keep alive [H8765]   H5315 his own soul.
  30 H2233 A seed H5647 shall serve [H8799]   H5608 him; it shall be accounted [H8792]   H136 to the Lord H1755 for a generation.

Far from my salvation, The words of my roaring? 2 My God, I call by day, and Thou answerest not, And by night, and there is no silence to me. 3 And Thou art holy, Sitting--the Praise of Israel. 4 In Thee did our fathers trust--they trusted, And Thou dost deliver them. 5 Unto Thee they cried, and were delivered, In Thee they trusted, and were not ashamed. 6 And I am a worm, and no man, A reproach of man, and despised of the people. 7 All beholding me do mock at me, They make free with the lip--shake the head, 8 `Roll unto Jehovah, He doth deliver him, He doth deliver him, for he delighted in him.' 9 For thou art He bringing me forth from the womb, Causing me to trust, On the breasts of my mother. 10 On Thee I have been cast from the womb, From the belly of my mother Thou art my God.
11 Be not far from me, For adversity is near, for there is no helper. 12 Many bulls have surrounded me, Mighty ones of Bashan have compassed me, 13 They have opened against me their mouth, A lion tearing and roaring. 14 As waters I have been poured out, And separated themselves have all my bones, My heart hath been like wax, It is melted in the midst of my bowels. 15 Dried up as an earthen vessel is my power, And my tongue is cleaving to my jaws. 16 And to the dust of death thou appointest me, For surrounded me have dogs, A company of evil doers have compassed me, Piercing my hands and my feet. 17 I count all my bones--they look expectingly, They look upon me, 18 They apportion my garments to themselves, And for my clothing they cause a lot to fall. 19 And Thou, O Jehovah, be not far off, O my strength, to help me haste. 20 Deliver from the sword my soul, From the paw of a dog mine only one. 21 Save me from the mouth of a lion: --And--from the horns of the high places Thou hast answered me!
22 I declare Thy name to my brethren, In the midst of the assembly I praise Thee. 23 Ye who fear Jehovah, praise ye Him, All the seed of Jacob, honour ye Him, And be afraid of Him, all ye seed of Israel. 24 For He hath not despised, nor abominated, The affliction of the afflicted, Nor hath He hidden His face from him, And in his crying unto Him He heareth. 25 Of Thee my praise is in the great assembly. My vows I complete before His fearers. 26 The humble do eat and are satisfied, Praise Jehovah do those seeking Him, Your heart doth live for ever. 27 Remember and return unto Jehovah, Do all ends of the earth, And before Thee bow themselves, Do all families of the nations, 28 For to Jehovah is the kingdom, And He is ruling among nations. 29 And the fat ones of earth have eaten, And they bow themselves, Before Him bow do all going down to dust, And he who hath not revived his soul. 30 A seed doth serve Him, It is declared of the Lord to the generation. 31 They come and declare His righteousness, To a people that is borne, that He hath made!
ASV(i) 1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not; And in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: They trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised of the people. 7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 Commit thyself unto Jehovah; Let him deliver him: Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him. 9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb; Thou didst make me trust when I was upon my mothers breasts. 10 I was cast upon thee from the womb; Thou art my God since my mother bare me. 11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; For there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have compassed me; Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. 13 They gape upon me with their mouth, As a ravening and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; And thou hast brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil-doers have inclosed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I may count all my bones; They look and stare upon me. 18 They part my garments among them, And upon my vesture do they cast lots. 19 But be not thou far off, O Jehovah: O thou my succor, haste thee to help me. 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, My darling from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the lions mouth; Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me. 22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee. 23 Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him; All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel. 24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Neither hath he hid his face from him; But when he cried unto him, he heard. 25 Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. 26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied; They shall praise Jehovah that seek after him: Let your heart live for ever. 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah; And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. 28 For the kingdom is Jehovahs; And he is the ruler over the nations. 29 All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship: All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him, Even he that cannot keep his soul alive. 30 A seed shall serve him; It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation. 31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it. Psalm 23 A Psalm of David.
