  4 G2532 And G3588 the G4794.1 lands falling in with G3588 the G4172 cities, G3739 which G1325 you shall give G3588 to the G* Levites, G575 shall be from G5038 the wall G3588 of the G4172 city G2532 and G1854 outside -- G5507 a thousand G4083 cubits G2945 round about.
  5 G2532 And G3354 you shall measure G1854 outside G3588 the G4172 city -- G3588 the G2827.1 side G3588 the one G4314 towards G395 the east -- G1367 two thousand G4083 cubits; G2532 and G3588 the G2827.1 side G3588 the one G4314 towards G3047 the south -- G1367 two thousand G4083 cubits; G2532 and G3588 the G2827.1 side G3588 the one G4314 towards G2281 the west -- G1367 two thousand G4083 cubits; G2532 and G3588 the G2827.1 side G3588 the one G4314 towards G1005 the north -- G1367 two thousand G4083 cubits; G2532 and G3588 the G4172 city G3319 between G3778 this G1510.8.3 will be G1473 for you, G2532 and G3588 the G3672.7 adjoining areas G3588 of the G4172 cities.
  6 G2532 And G3588 the G4172 cities G3739 which G1325 you shall give G3588 to the G* Levites G3588 are the G1803 six G4172 cities G3588 of the G5435.5 places of refuge, G3739 which G1325 you shall give G5343 [3to flee G1563 4there G3588 1for the G5407 2one man-slaying]; G2532 and G4314 in addition G3778 to these, G5062 forty G2532   G1417 two G4172 cities.
  7 G3956 All G3588 the G4172 cities G3739 which G1325 you shall give G3588 to the G* Levites G5062 are forty G2532 and G3638 eight G4172 cities, G3778 these G2532 and G3588   G4258.4 their outskirts. G1473  
  8 G2532 And G3588 the G4172 cities G3739 which G1325 you shall give G575 from G3588 the G2697 possession G5207 of the sons G* of Israel, G575 from G3588 the ones having G3588   G4183 many G4183 will be many; G2532 and G575 from G3588 the ones having G1640 less G1640 will be less; G1538 each G2596 according to G3588   G2817 his inheritance G1473   G3739 which G2624.1 they shall allot, G1325 they shall give G575 from G3588 the G4172 cities G3588 to the G* Levites.

  12 G2532 And G1510.8.6 they will be G3588   G4172 cities G1473 for you G5435.5 as places of refuge G575 from G3588 the G70.4 one acting as next of kin G3588   G129 for blood, G2532 that G3766.2 in no way G599 should [3die G3588 1the one G5407 2man-slaying] G2193 until G302 whenever G2476 he should stand G1725 before G3588 the G4864 congregation G1519 for G2920 judgment.
  13 G2532 And G3588 the G4172 cities G3739 which G1325 you shall appoint -- G3588 the G1803 six G4172 cities -- G5435.5 [2places of refuge G1510.8.6 1will be] G1473 for you.
  14 G3588   G5140 Three G4172 cities G1325 you shall appoint G1722 on G3588 the G4008 other side G3588 of the G* Jordan, G2532 and G3588   G5140 three G4172 cities G1325 you shall appoint G1722 in G1093 the land G* of Canaan.
  15 G5435.4 A place of refuge G1510.8.3 they will be G3588 to the G5207 sons G* of Israel.   16 G1437 And if G1161   G1722 by G4632 an item G4604 of iron G3960 one should strike G1473 him, G2532 and G5053 he should come to an end -- G5406.1 that one is a murderer -- G1510.2.3   G2288 unto death G2289 let [3be put to death G3588 1the G5406.1 2murderer]!
  17 G1437 And if G1161   G1722 by G3037 a stone G1537 from G5495 the hand G1722 in G3739 which G599 one should die G1722 by G1473 it, G3960 then the one who should strike G1473 him, G2532 even G599 he should die, G5406.1 he is a murderer -- G1510.2.3   G2288 unto death G2289 let [3be put to death G3588 1the G5406.1 2murderer]!

  19 G3588 The G70.4 one acting as next of kin G3588   G129 for blood, G3778 this one G615 shall kill G3588 the G5407 one man-slaying; G3752 whenever G4876 he meets G1473 him, G3778 this one G615 shall kill G1473 him.
  20 G1437 And if G1161   G1223 through G2189 hatred G5605.2 he should thrust him through G1473   G2532 or G1977 should cast G1909 upon G1473 him G3956 any G4632 item G1537 by G1749 ambush, G2532 and G599 he should die,

  26 G1437 But if G1161   G1841 by an exit G1831 [3should come forth from G3588 1the one G5407 2man-slaying] G3588 the G3725 borders G3588 of the G4172 city G1519 in G3739 which G2703 he took refuge G1563 there,
  27 G2532 and G2147 [4should find G1473 5him G3588 1the one G70.4 2acting as next of kin G3588   G129 3for blood] G1854 outside G3588 the G3725 borders G3588 of the G4172 city G2707.1 of his refuge, G1473   G2532 and G5407 [4should slaughter G3588 1the one G70.4 2acting as next of kin G3588   G129 3for blood] G3588 the G5407 one man-slaying, G3756 [2not G1777 3liable G1510.2.3 1is he]?
  28 G1722 For in G1063   G3588 the G4172 city G3588   G2707.1 of his refuge G1473   G2730 let him dwell G2193 until G599 [4should die G3588   G2409 3priest G3588 1the G3173 2great]! G2532 And G3326 after G3588 the G599 dying G3588 of the G2409 [2priest G3588   G3173 1great] G1879.1 [3will be able to return G3588 1the one G5407 2man-slaying] G1519 unto G3588 the G1093 land G3588   G2697 of his possession.   29 G2532 And G1510.8.3 these things will be G3778   G1473 to you G1519 for G1345 an ordinance G2917 of judgment G1519 unto G3588   G1074 your generations G1473   G1722 in G3956 all G3588   G2733 your dwellings. G1473  
  30 G3956 Every one G3960 striking G5590 a soul, G1223 with G3144 witnesses, G5407 you shall slaughter G3588 the G5407 one man-slaying; G2532 and G3144 [2witness G1520 1one] G3756 shall not G3140 witness G1909 for G5590 a soul G599 to die.
  31 G2532 And G3756 you shall not G2983 take G3083 ransoms G4012 for G5590 a soul G3844 from G3588 the one G5407 murdering -- G3588 the G1777 [2liable G1510.6 1one being] G337 is to be done away with, G2288 for unto death G1063   G2289 he shall be put to death.
  32 G2532 And G3756 you shall not G2983 take G3083 ransoms G3588 for the G5343 one fleeing G1519 into G4172 a city G3588 of the G5435.5 places of refuge, G3588   G3825 to again G2730 dwell G1909 in G3588 the G1093 land, G2193 until G302 whenever G599 [4should die G3588 1the G2409 3priest G3588   G3173 2great].
  33 G2532 And G3766.2 in no way G5407.1 should you pollute with murder G3588 the G1093 land G1909 upon G3739 which G1473 you G2730 dwell G1909 upon G1473 it; G3588   G1063 for G129 this blood G3778   G5407.1 pollutes [3by murder G3588 1the G1093 2land], G2532 and G3756 [3shall not G1837.2 4be atoned G3588 1the G1093 2land] G575 from G3588 the G129 blood G3588   G1632 having been poured out G1909 upon G1473 it, G235 but G1909 it shall be upon G3588 the G129 blood G3588 of the G1632 one pouring it out.
  34 G2532 And G3756 you shall not G3392 defile G3588 the G1093 land G1909 upon G3739 which G2730 you dwell G1909 upon G1473 it, G1909 of G3739 which G1473 I G2681 should encamp G1722 among G1473 you. G1473 For I G1063   G1510.2.1 am G2962 the lord G2681 encamping G1722 in G3319 the midst G3588 of the G5207 sons G* of Israel.
Geneva(i) 1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses in the plaine of Moab by Iorden, toward Iericho, saying, 2 Commande ye children of Israel, that they giue vnto the Leuites of the inheritace of their possession, cities to dwell in: yee shall giue also vnto the Leuites the suburbes of the cities round about them. 3 So they shall haue the cities to dwell in, and their suburbes shall be for their cattell, and for their substance, and for all their beasts. 4 And the suburbes of the cities, which ye shall giue vnto the Leuites, from the wall of the citie outward, shalbe a thousand cubites round about. 5 And yee shall measure without the citie of the Eastside, two thousand cubites: and of the Southside, two thousand cubites: and of the Westside, two thousand cubites: and of ye Northside, two thousand cubites: and the citie shalbe in ye middes. this shalbe the measure of the suburbes of their cities. 6 And of the cities which yee shall giue vnto the Leuites, there shalbe sixe cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: and to them yee shall adde two and fourtie cities more. 7 All the cities which yee shall giue to the Leuites, shalbe eight and fourtie cities: them shall ye giue with their suburbes. 8 And concerning the cities which yee shall giue, of the possession of the children of Israel: of many ye shall take more, and of few ye shall take lesse: euery one shall giue of his cities vnto the Leuites, according to his inheritance, which hee inheriteth. 9 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying, 10 Speake vnto the children of Israel, and instrument of yron that hee die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death. 17 Also if hee smite him by casting a stone, wherewith hee may be slaine, and he die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death. 18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may be slaine, if he die, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death. 19 The reuenger of the blood himselfe shall slay the murtherer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him. 20 But if hee thrust him of hate, or hurle at him by laying of wait, that he die, 21 Or smite him through enimitie with his hand, that he die, he that smote him shall die ye death: for hee is a murtherer: the reuenger of the blood shall slay the murtherer when he meeteth him. 22 But if he pusshed him vnaduisedly, and not of hatred, or cast vpon him any thing, without laying of waite, 23 Or any stone (whereby he might be slaine) and sawe him not, or caused it to fall vpon him, and he die, and was not his enemie, neither sought him any harme, 24 Then the Congregation shall iudge betweene the slayer and the auenger of blood according to these lawes. 25 And the Congregation shall deliuer the slayer out of the hande of the auenger of blood, and the Congregation shall restore him vnto the citie of his refuge, whither hee was fled: and hee shall abide there vnto the death of the hie Priest, which is anointed with the holy oyle. 26 But if the slayer come without the borders of the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled, 27 And the reuenger of blood finde him without the borders of the citie of his refuge, and the reueger of blood slay ye murtherer, he shalbe giltles, 28 Because he should haue remained in the citie of his refuge, vntill the death of the hie Priest: and after the death of the hie Priest, the slayer shall returne vnto the land of his possession. 29 So these thinges shall be a lawe of iudgement vnto you, throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 30 Whosoeuer killeth any person, the Iudge shall slay the murtherer, through witnesses: but one witnesse shall not testifie against a person to cause him to die. 31 Moreouer ye shall take no recompense for the life of the murtherer, which is worthy to die: but he shalbe put to death. 32 Also ye shall take no recompense for him that is fled to the citie of his refuge, that he should come againe, and dwell in the lande, before the death of the hie Priest. 33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye shall dwell: for blood defileth the land: and the land cannot be clensed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. 34 Defile not therefore the lande which yee shall inhabite, For I dwell in the middes thereof: for I the Lord dwel among the children of Israel.

  7 H5892 So all the cities H5414 which ye shall give [H8799]   H3881 to the Levites H705 shall be forty H8083 and eight H5892 cities H4054 : them shall ye give with their suburbs.

  14 H5414 Ye shall give [H8799]   H7969 three H5892 cities H5676 on this side H3383 Jordan H7969 , and three H5892 cities H5414 shall ye give [H8799]   H776 in the land H3667 of Canaan H5892 , which shall be cities H4733 of refuge.
  15 H8337 These six H5892 cities H4733 shall be a refuge H1121 , both for the children H3478 of Israel H1616 , and for the stranger H8453 , and for the sojourner H8432 among H5221 them: that every one that killeth [H8688]   H5315 any person H7684 unawares H5127 may flee [H8800]   thither.
  16 H5221 And if he smite [H8689]   H3627 him with an instrument H1270 of iron H4191 , so that he die [H8799]   H7523 , he is a murderer [H8802]   H7523 : the murderer [H8802]   H4191 shall surely [H8800]   H4191 be put to death [H8714]  .
  17 H5221 And if he smite [H8689]   H3027 him with throwing H68 a stone H4191 , wherewith he may die [H8799]   H4191 , and he die [H8799]   H7523 , he is a murderer [H8802]   H7523 : the murderer [H8802]   H4191 shall surely [H8800]   H4191 be put to death [H8714]  .

  19 H1350 The revenger [H8802]   H1818 of blood H4191 himself shall slay [H8686]   H7523 the murderer [H8802]   H6293 : when he meeteth [H8800]   H1931 him, he H4191 shall slay [H8686]   him.

  25 H5712 And the congregation H5337 shall deliver [H8689]   H7523 the slayer [H8802]   H3027 out of the hand H1350 of the revenger [H8802]   H1818 of blood H5712 , and the congregation H7725 shall restore [H8689]   H5892 him to the city H4733 of his refuge H5127 , whither he was fled [H8804]   H3427 : and he shall abide [H8804]   H4194 in it unto the death H1419 of the high H3548 priest H4886 , which was anointed [H8804]   H6944 with the holy H8081 oil.
  26 H7523 But if the slayer [H8802]   H3318 shall at any time [H8800]   H3318 come [H8799]   H1366 without the border H5892 of the city H4733 of his refuge H5127 , whither he was fled [H8799]  ;
  27 H1350 And the revenger [H8802]   H1818 of blood H4672 find [H8804]   H2351 him without H1366 the borders H5892 of the city H4733 of his refuge H1350 , and the revenger [H8802]   H1818 of blood H7523 kill [H8804]   H7523 the slayer [H8802]   H1818 ; he shall not be guilty of blood:
  28 H3427 Because he should have remained [H8799]   H5892 in the city H4733 of his refuge H4194 until the death H1419 of the high H3548 priest H310 : but after H4194 the death H1419 of the high H3548 priest H7523 the slayer [H8802]   H7725 shall return [H8799]   H776 into the land H272 of his possession.
  29 H2708 So these things shall be for a statute H4941 of judgment H1755 unto you throughout your generations H4186 in all your dwellings.
  30 H5221 Whoso killeth [H8688]   H5315 any person H7523 , the murderer [H8802]   H7523 shall be put to death [H8799]   H6310 by the mouth H5707 of witnesses H259 : but one H5707 witness H6030 shall not testify [H8799]   H5315 against any person H4191 to cause him to die [H8800]  .

  32 H3947 And ye shall take [H8799]   H3724 no satisfaction H5127 for him that is fled [H8800]   H5892 to the city H4733 of his refuge H7725 , that he should come again [H8800]   H3427 to dwell [H8800]   H776 in the land H4194 , until the death H3548 of the priest.
  33 H2610 So ye shall not pollute [H8686]   H776 the land H1818 wherein ye are : for blood H2610 it defileth [H8686]   H776 the land H776 : and the land H3722 cannot be cleansed [H8792]   H1818 of the blood H8210 that is shed [H8795]   H1818 therein, but by the blood H8210 of him that shed [H8802]   it.

YLT(i) 1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, near Jericho, saying, 2 `Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites. 3 And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts. 4 `And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites are, from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about. 5 And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city is in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities. 6 `And the cities which ye give to the Levites are the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities; 7 all the cities which ye give to the Levites are forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs. 8 And the cities which ye give are of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'
9 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 10 `Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan, 11 and have prepared to yourselves cities--cities of refuge they are to you--then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares, 12 and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment. 13 `As to the cities which ye give--six are cities of refuge to you; 14 the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are. 15 To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares. 16 `And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death. 17 `And if with a stone in the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death. 18 `Or with a wooden instrument in the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he is a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death. 19 `The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death. 20 `And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast anything at him by lying in wait, and he dieth; 21 or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he is a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him. 22 `And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait; 23 or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth it to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he is not his enemy, nor seeking his evil; 24 then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments. 25 `And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil. 26 `And if the man-slayer at all go out from the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth, 27 and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him; 28 for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession. 29 `And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings: 30 whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth one slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person--to die. 31 `And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who is condemned--to die, for he is certainly put to death; 32 and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. 33 `And ye profane not the land which ye are in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it; 34 and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'

This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. 6 And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities. 7 All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities; them shall ye give with their suburbs. 8 And concerning the cities which ye shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many ye shall take many; and from the few ye shall take few: every one according to his inheritance which he inheriteth shall give of his cities unto the Levites. 9 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 11 then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither. 12 And the cities shall be unto you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation for judgment. 13 And the cities which ye shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge. 14 Ye shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge. 15 For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that every one that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither. 16 But if he smote him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 17 And if he smote him with a stone in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 18 Or if he smote him with a weapon of wood in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 19 The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death: when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death. 20 And if he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died, 21 or in enmity smote him with his hand, so that he died; he that smote him shall surely be put to death; he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meeteth him. 22 But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled upon him anything without lying in wait, 23 or with any stone, whereby a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm; 24 then the congregation shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances; 25 and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil. 26 But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, whither he fleeth, 27 and the avenger of blood find him without the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood slay the manslayer; he shall not be guilty of blood, 28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession. 29 And these things shall be for a statute and ordinance unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die. 31 Moreover ye shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer, that is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death. 32 And ye shall take no ransom for him that is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. 33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood, it polluteth the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. 34 And thou shalt not defile the land which ye inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I, Jehovah, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.
