Geneva(i) 1 Nowe the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad had an exceeding great multitude of cattell: and they sawe the lande of Iazer, and the lande of Gilead, that it was an apt place for cattel. 2 Then the children of Gad, and the childre of Reuben came, and spake vnto Moses and to Eleazar the Priest, and vnto the princes of the Congregation, saying, 3 The land of Ataroth, and Dibon, and Iazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4 Which countrey the Lord smote before the Congregation of Israel, is a lande meete for cattell, and thy seruants haue cattell: 5 Wherefore, said they, if we haue foud grace in thy sight, let this lande be giuen vnto thy seruants for a possession, and bring vs not ouer Iorde. 6 And Moses said vnto the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren goe to warre, and ye tary heere? vnto Moyses, saying: Thy seruauntes wyll do as my Lorde commaundeth 26 Our children, our wyues, our sheepe, and our cattell, shall remayne here in the cities of Gilead 27 But thy seruauntes wyll go all harnessed for the warre, and vnto battayle before the Lorde, as my Lorde sayth 28 And for their sakes, Moyses commaunded Eleazar the priest, & Iosuah the sonne of Nun, and the chiefe fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel 29 And Moyses sayde vnto them: If the children of Gad, and the children of Ruben wyl go with you ouer Iordane, all armed, to fyght before the Lorde, then when the   3 H5852 Ataroth H1769 , and Dibon H3270 , and Jazer H5247 , and Nimrah H2809 , and Heshbon H500 , and Elealeh H7643 , and Shebam H5015 , and Nebo H1194 , and Beon,
  4 H776 Even the country H3068 which the LORD H5221 smote [H8689]   H6440 before H5712 the congregation H3478 of Israel H776 , is a land H4735 for cattle H5650 , and thy servants H4735 have cattle:
  5 H559 Wherefore, said [H8799]   H4672 they, if we have found [H8804]   H2580 grace H5869 in thy sight H776 , let this land H5414 be given [H8714]   H5650 unto thy servants H272 for a possession H5674 , and bring us not over [H8686]   H3383 Jordan.

  12 H3612 Save Caleb H1121 the son H3312 of Jephunneh H7074 the Kenezite H3091 , and Joshua H1121 the son H5126 of Nun H4390 : for they have wholly [H8765]   H310 followed H3068 the LORD.
  13 H3068 And the LORD'S H639 anger H2734 was kindled [H8799]   H3478 against Israel H5128 , and he made them wander [H8686]   H4057 in the wilderness H705 forty H8141 years H1755 , until all the generation H6213 , that had done [H8802]   H7451 evil H5869 in the sight H3068 of the LORD H8552 , was consumed [H8800]  .
  14 H6965 And, behold, ye are risen up [H8804]   H1 in your fathers H8635 ' stead, an increase H2400 of sinful H582 men H5595 , to augment [H8800]   H2740 yet the fierce H639 anger H3068 of the LORD H3478 toward Israel.
  15 H7725 For if ye turn away [H8799]   H310 from after H3254 him, he will yet again [H8804]   H3240 leave [H8687]   H4057 them in the wilderness H7843 ; and ye shall destroy [H8765]   H5971 all this people.
  16 H5066 And they came near [H8799]   H559 unto him, and said [H8799]   H1129 , We will build [H8799]   H1448 sheepfolds H6629   H4735 here for our cattle H5892 , and cities H2945 for our little ones:
  17 H587 But we ourselves H2363 will go ready [H8803]   H2502 armed [H8735]   H6440 before H1121 the children H3478 of Israel H935 , until we have brought [H8689]   H4725 them unto their place H2945 : and our little ones H3427 shall dwell [H8804]   H4013 in the fenced H5892 cities H6440 because H3427 of the inhabitants [H8802]   H776 of the land.
  18 H7725 We will not return [H8799]   H1004 unto our houses H1121 , until the children H3478 of Israel H5157 have inherited [H8692]   H376 every man H5159 his inheritance.
  19 H5157 For we will not inherit [H8799]   H5676 with them on yonder side H3383 Jordan H1973 , or forward H5159 ; because our inheritance H935 is fallen [H8804]   H5676 to us on this side H3383 Jordan H4217 eastward.
  20 H4872 And Moses H559 said [H8799]   H6213 unto them, If ye will do [H8799]   H1697 this thing H2502 , if ye will go armed [H8735]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H4421 to war,
  21 H5674 And will go H2502 all of you armed [H8803]   H5674 over [H8804]   H3383 Jordan H6440 before H3068 the LORD H3423 , until he hath driven out [H8687]   H341 his enemies [H8802]   H6440 from before him,
  22 H776 And the land H3533 be subdued [H8738]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H310 : then afterward H7725 ye shall return [H8799]   H5355 , and be guiltless H3068 before the LORD H3478 , and before Israel H776 ; and this land H272 shall be your possession H6440 before H3068 the LORD.
  23 H6213 But if ye will not do so [H8799]   H2398 , behold, ye have sinned [H8804]   H3068 against the LORD H3045 : and be sure [H8798]   H2403 your sin H4672 will find you out [H8799]  .
  24 H1129 Build [H8798]   H5892 you cities H2945 for your little ones H1448 , and folds H6792 for your sheep H6213 ; and do [H8799]   H3318 that which hath proceeded [H8802]   H6310 out of your mouth.
  25 H1121 And the children H1410 of Gad H1121 and the children H7205 of Reuben H559 spake [H8799]   H4872 unto Moses H559 , saying [H8800]   H5650 , Thy servants H6213 will do [H8799]   H113 as my lord H6680 commandeth [H8764]  .
  26 H2945 Our little ones H802 , our wives H4735 , our flocks H929 , and all our cattle H5892 , shall be there in the cities H1568 of Gilead:
  27 H5650 But thy servants H5674 will pass over [H8799]   H2502 , every man armed [H8803]   H6635 for war H6440 , before H3068 the LORD H4421 to battle H113 , as my lord H1696 saith [H8802]  .
  28 H4872 So concerning them Moses H6680 commanded [H8762]   H499 Eleazar H3548 the priest H3091 , and Joshua H1121 the son H5126 of Nun H7218 , and the chief H1 fathers H4294 of the tribes H1121 of the children H3478 of Israel:
  29 H4872 And Moses H559 said [H8799]   H1121 unto them, If the children H1410 of Gad H1121 and the children H7205 of Reuben H5674 will pass with you over [H8799]   H3383 Jordan H2502 , every man armed [H8803]   H4421 to battle H6440 , before H3068 the LORD H776 , and the land H3533 shall be subdued [H8738]   H6440 before H5414 you; then ye shall give [H8804]   H776 them the land H1568 of Gilead H272 for a possession:
  30 H5674 But if they will not pass over [H8799]   H2502 with you armed [H8803]   H270 , they shall have possessions [H8738]   H8432 among H776 you in the land H3667 of Canaan.
  31 H1121 And the children H1410 of Gad H1121 and the children H7205 of Reuben H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 , saying [H8800]   H3068 , As the LORD H1696 hath said [H8765]   H5650 unto thy servants H6213 , so will we do [H8799]  .
  32 H5168 We will H5674 pass over [H8799]   H2502 armed [H8803]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H776 into the land H3667 of Canaan H272 , that the possession H5159 of our inheritance H5676 on this side H3383 Jordan may be ours.
  33 H4872 And Moses H5414 gave [H8799]   H1121 unto them, even to the children H1410 of Gad H1121 , and to the children H7205 of Reuben H2677 , and unto half H7626 the tribe H4519 of Manasseh H1121 the son H3130 of Joseph H4467 , the kingdom H5511 of Sihon H4428 king H567 of the Amorites H4467 , and the kingdom H5747 of Og H4428 king H1316 of Bashan H776 , the land H5892 , with the cities H1367 thereof in the coasts H5892 , even the cities H776 of the country H5439 round about.
  34 H1121 And the children H1410 of Gad H1129 built [H8799]   H1769 Dibon H5852 , and Ataroth H6177 , and Aroer,
  35 H5855 And Atroth, Shophan H3270 , and Jaazer H3011 , and Jogbehah,
  36 H1039 And Bethnimrah H1028 , and Bethharan H4013 , fenced H5892 cities H1448 : and folds H6629 for sheep.
  37 H1121 And the children H7205 of Reuben H1129 built [H8804]   H2809 Heshbon H500 , and Elealeh H7156 , and Kirjathaim,
  38 H5015 And Nebo H1186 , and Baalmeon H8034 , (their names H4142 being changed [H8716]   H7643 ,) and Shibmah H7121 : and gave [H8799]   H8034 other names H8034   H5892 unto the cities H1129 which they builded [H8804]  .
  39 H1121 And the children H4353 of Machir H1121 the son H4519 of Manasseh H3212 went [H8799]   H1568 to Gilead H3920 , and took [H8799]   H3423 it, and dispossessed [H8686]   H567 the Amorite which was in it.
  40 H4872 And Moses H5414 gave [H8799]   H1568 Gilead H4353 unto Machir H1121 the son H4519 of Manasseh H3427 ; and he dwelt [H8799]   therein.
  41 H2971 And Jair H1121 the son H4519 of Manasseh H1980 went [H8804]   H3920 and took [H8799]   H2333 the small towns H7121 thereof, and called [H8799]   H2334 them Havothjair.
  42 H5025 And Nobah H1980 went [H8804]   H3920 and took [H8799]   H7079 Kenath H1323 , and the villages H7121 thereof, and called [H8799]   H5025 it Nobah H8034 , after his own name.
YLT(i) 1 And much cattle hath been to the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad, very many; and they see the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, and lo, the place is a place for cattle; 2 and the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben, come in and speak unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the company, saying: 3 `Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon-- 4 the land which Jehovah hath smitten before the company of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle.' 5 And they say, `If we have found grace in thine eyes, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession; cause us not to pass over the Jordan.' 6 And Moses saith to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, `Do your brethren go in to the battle, and ye--do ye sit here? 7 and why discourage ye the heart of the sons of Israel from passing over unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them? 8 `Thus did your fathers in my sending them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the land; 9 and they go up unto the valley of Eshcol, and see the land, and discourage the heart of the sons of Israel so as not to go in unto the land which Jehovah hath given to them; 10 and the anger of Jehovah burneth in that day, and He sweareth, saying, 11 They do not see--the men who are coming up out of Egypt from a son of twenty years and upward--the ground which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, for they have not been fully after Me; 12 save Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua son of Nun, for they have been fully after Jehovah; 13 and the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He causeth them to wander in the wilderness forty years, until the consumption of all the generation which is doing the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah. 14 `And lo, ye have risen in the stead of your fathers, an increase of men--sinners, to add yet to the fury of the anger of Jehovah toward Israel; 15 when ye turn back from after Him, then He hath added yet to leave him in the wilderness, and ye have done corruptly to all this people.'
16 And they come nigh unto him, and say, `Folds for the flock we build for our cattle here, and cities for our infants; 17 and we--we are armed hasting before the sons of Israel till that we have brought them in unto their place; and our infants have dwelt in the cities of defence because of the inhabitants of the land; 18 we do not turn back unto our houses till the sons of Israel have inherited each his inheritance, 19 for we do not inherit with them beyond the Jordan and yonder, for our inheritance hath come unto us beyond the Jordan at the sun -rising.' 20 And Moses saith unto them, `If ye do this thing: if ye are armed before Jehovah for battle, 21 and every armed one of you hath passed over the Jordan before Jehovah, till his dispossessing His enemies from before Him, 22 and the land hath been subdued before Jehovah--then afterwards ye do turn back, and have been acquitted by Jehovah, and by Israel; and this land hath been to you for a possession before Jehovah. 23 `And if ye do not so, lo, ye have sinned against Jehovah, and know ye your sin, that it doth find you; 24 build for yourselves cities for your infants, and folds for your flock, and that which is going out from your mouth do ye.' 25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben speak unto Moses, saying, `Thy servants do as my lord is commanding; 26 our infants, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts, are there in cities of Gilead, 27 and thy servants pass over, every armed one of the host, before Jehovah, to battle, as my lord is saying.'
28 And Moses commandeth concerning them Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel; 29 and Moses saith unto them, `If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben pass over with you the Jordan, every one armed for battle, before Jehovah, and the land hath been subdued before you, then ye have given to them the land of Gilead for a possession; 30 and if they do not pass over armed with you, then they have possessions in your midst in the land of Canaan.' 31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answer, saying, `That which Jehovah hath spoken unto thy servants--so we do; 32 we--we pass over armed before Jehovah to the land of Canaan, and with us is the possession of our inheritance beyond the Jordan.' 33 And Moses giveth to them, to the sons of Gad, and to the sons of Reuben, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land by its cities, in the borders, the cities of the land round about. 34 And the sons of Gad build Dihon, and Ataroth, and Aroer, 35 and Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah, 36 and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, cities of defence, and sheepfolds. 37 And the sons of Reuben have build Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim, 38 and Nebo, and Baal-Meon (changed in name), and Shibmah, and they call by these names the names of the cities which they have built. 39 And sons of Machir son of Manasseh go to Gilead, and capture it, and dispossess the Amorite, who is in it; 40 and Moses giveth Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelleth in it. 41 And Jair son of Manasseh hath gone and captureth their towns, and calleth them `Towns of Jair;' 42 and Nobah hath gone and captureth Kenath, and its villages, and calleth it Nobah, by his own name.
ASV(i) 1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 2 the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4 the land which Jehovah smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and thy servants have cattle. 5 And they said, If we have found favor in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession; bring us not over the Jordan. 6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to the war, and shall ye sit here?
