G2532 And G2036 he said G4314 to G2962 the lord, G3361 Do not G4337 take heed G1519 to G3588   G2378 their sacrifice, G1473   G3756 [2not G1937.1 4 the desire G3762 5of any one G1473 6of them G2983 1I have 3taken], G3761 nor G2559 inflicted evil G3762 on any one G1473 of them.

  21 G656.4 Sever yourselves G1537 from G3319 the midst G3588   G4864 of this congregation! G3778   G2532 and G1814.4 I will completely consume G1473 them G1522.1 at once.

  24 G2980 Speak G3588 to the G4864 congregation! G3004 saying, G402 Withdraw G2945 round about G575 from G3588 the G4864 congregation G* of Korah, G2532 and G* Dathan, G2532 and G* Abiram!
  25 G2532 And G450 Moses rose up, G*   G2532 and G4198 went G4314 to G* Dathan G2532 and G* Abiram. G2532 And G4848 went G3326 with G1473 him G3956 all G3588 the G4245 elders G* of Israel.

G2532 And G* Dathan G2532 and G* Abiram G1831 came forth G2532 and G2476 stood G3844 by G3588 the G2374 doors G3588   G4633 of their tents, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G1135 their wives, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G5043 their children, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G643.1 their belongings.   33 G2532 And G2597 these went down, G1473   G2532 and G3956 all G3745 as many as G1510.2.3 is G1473 to them, G2198 alive G1519 into G86 Hades; G2532 and G2572 [3covered G1473 4them G3588 1the G1093 2earth], G2532 and G622 they were destroyed G1537 from out of G3319 the midst G3588 of the G4864 congregation.
  34 G2532 And G3956 all G* Israel G3588   G2945 round about G1473 them G5343 fled G575 from G3588   G5456 their sound, G1473   G3004 saying, G3379 Lest at any time G2666 [3shall swallow G1473 4us G3588 1the G1093 2earth].
  35 G2532 And G4442 fire G1831 came forth G3844 from G2962 the lord, G2532 and G2719 it devoured G3588 the G4004 fifty G2532 and G1250 two hundred G435 men G3588 of the G4374 ones offering G3588 the G2368 incense.
  36 G2532 And G2980 the lord spoke G2962   G4314 to G* Moses, G3004 saying,
  37 G2980 Speak G4314 to G* Eleazar G3588 the G5207 son G* of Aaron G3588 the G2409 priest, G337 Do away with G3588 the G4444.1 censers G1537 from G3319 the midst G3588 of the G2618 ones having been incinerated, G2532 and G3588   G4442 [3fire G3588   G245 2alien G3778 1sow this] G4687   G1563 there!
  38 G3754 For G37 they sanctified G3588 the G4444.1 censers G3588   G268 of these sinners G3778   G1722 by G3588   G5590 their lives. G1473   G2532 And G4160 make G1473 them G3013 into scales G1640.3 hammered out G4024.1 for adornment G3588 to the G2379 altar! G3754 for G4374 they were brought near G1725 before G2962 the lord, G2532 and G37 were sanctified. G2532 And G1096 they became G1519 for G4592 a sign G3588 to the G5207 sons G* of Israel.
  39 G2532 And G2983 [6took G* 1Eleazar G5207 2son G* 3of Aaron G3588 4the G2409 5priest] G3588 the G4444.1 censers G3588   G5470 of brass, G3745 as many as G4374 [3brought near G3588 1the G2618 2men having been incinerated]; G2532 and G4369 they added G1473 them G4024.1 as an adornment G3588 to the G2379 altar,

  41 G2532 And G1111 [4grumbled G3588 1the G5207 2sons G* 3of Israel] G3588 the G1887 next day G1909 against G* Moses G2532 and G* Aaron, G3004 saying, G1473 You G615 have killed G3588 the G2992 people G2962 of the lord .

  43 G2532 And G1525 [4entered G* 1Moses G2532 2and G* 3Aaron] G2596 by G4383 the front G3588 of the G4633 tent G3588 of the G3142 testimony.
  44 G2532 And G2980 the lord spoke G2962   G4314 to G* Moses, G3004 saying,
  45 G1633 Withdraw G1537 from G3319 the midst G3588   G4864 of this congregation, G3778   G2532 and G1814.4 I shall completely consume G1473 them G1522.1 at once. G2532 And G4098 they fell G1909 upon G4383 their face. G1473  
  46 G2532 And G2036 Moses said G*   G4314 to G* Aaron, G2983 Take G3588 the G4444.1 censer, G2532 and G2007 place G1909 upon G1473 it G4442 fire G575 from G3588 the G2379 altar, G2532 and G1911 put G1909 upon G1473 it G2368 incense, G2532 and G667 carry it G3588   G5034 quickly G1519 into G3588 the G4864 congregation, G2532 and G1837.2 make atonement G4012 for G1473 them! G1831 [3came forth G1063 1For G3709 2anger] G575 from G4383 the face G2962 of the lord; G756 it has begun G2352 to devastate G3588 the G2992 people.
  47 G2532 And G2983 Aaron took G*   G2509 just as G2980 [2spoke G1473 3to him G* 1Moses]; G2532 and G5143 he ran G1519 into G3588 the G4864 congregation, G2532 for G2235 already G1728 had commenced G3588 the G2351.5 devastation G1722 among G3588 the G2992 people. G2532 And G1911 he put G3588 the G2368 incense, G2532 and G1837.2 he made atonement G4012 for G3588 the G2992 people.
  48 G2532 And G2476 he stood G303.1 between G3588 the G2348 ones having died G2532 and G3588 the ones G2198 living, G2532 and G2869 [3abated G3588 1the G2351.5 2devastation].
  49 G2532 And G1096 [6were G3588 1the ones G2348 2having died G1722 3in G3588 4the G2351.5 5devastation] G5064.1 fourteen G5505 thousand G2532 and G2035.1 seven hundred, G5565 apart from G3588 the G2348 ones having died G1752 because of G* Korah.
  50 G2532 And G1994 Aaron returned G*   G4314 to G* Moses G1909 at G3588 the G2374 door G3588 of the G4633 tent G3588 of the G3142 testimony, G2532 and G2869 [3abated G3588 1the G2351.5 2devastation].
Geneva(i) 1 Nowe Korah the sonne of Izhar, the sonne of Kohath, the sonne of Leui went apart with Dathan, and Abiram the sonnes of Eliab, and On the sonne of Peleth, the sonnes of Reuben: 2 And they rose vp against Moses, with certaine of the children of Israel, two hundreth and fiftie captaines of the assemblie, famous in the Congregation, and men of renoume, 3 Who gathered themselues together against Moses, and against Aaron, and sayde vnto them, Ye take too much vpon you, seeing all the Congregation is holie, euery one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherfore then lift ye your selues aboue the Congregation of the Lord? 4 But when Moses heard it, hee fell vpon his face, 5 And spake to Korah and vnto all his companie, saying, To morow the Lord will shew who is his, and who is holy, and who ought to approche neere vnto him: and whom he hath chosen, hee will cause to come neere to him. 6 This doe therefore, Take you censers, both Korah, and all his companie, 7 And put fire therein, and put incense in the before the Lord to morowe: and the man whome the Lord doeth chuse, the same shalbe holie: ye take too much vpon you, ye sonnes of Leui. 8 Againe Moses saide vnto Korah, Heare, I pray you, ye sonnes of Leui. 9 Seemeth it a small thing vnto you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the multitude of Israel, to take you neere to himselfe, to doe the seruice of the Tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the Congregation and to minister vnto them? 10 He hath also taken thee to him, and all thy brethren the sonnes of Leui with thee, and seeke ye the office of the Priest also? 11 For which cause, thou, and all thy companie are gathered together against the Lord: and what is Aaron, that ye murmure against him? 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan, and Abiram the sonnes of Eliab: who answered, We will not come vp. 13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought vs out of a lande that floweth with milke and honie, to kill vs in the wildernesse, except thou make thy selfe lord and ruler ouer vs also? 14 Also thou hast not brought vs vnto a land that floweth with milke and honie, neither giuen vs inheritance of fieldes and vineyardes: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come vp. 15 Then Moses waxed verie angry, and saide vnto the Lord, Looke not vnto their offring: I haue not taken so much as an asse from them, neither haue I hurt any of them. 16 And Moses said vnto Korah, Bee thou and al thy companie before the Lord: both thou, they, and Aaron to morowe: 17 And take euery man his censor, and put incense in them, and bring ye euery man his censor before the Lord, two hundreth and fiftie censors: thou also and Aaron, euery one his censor. 18 So they tooke euery man his censor, and put fire in them, and laide incense thereon, and stoode in the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah gathered all the multitude against them vnto the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation: then the glorie of the Lord appeared vnto all the Congregation. 20 And the Lord spake vnto Moses and to Aaron, saying, 21 Separate your selues from among this Cogregation, that I may consume them at once. 22 And they fell vpon their faces and saide, O God the God of the spirits, of all fleshe, hath not one man onely sinned, and wilt thou bee wroth with all the Congregation? 23 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying, 24 Speake vnto the Congregation and say, Get you away from about the Tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. 25 Then Moses rose vp, and went vnto Dathan and Abiram, and the Elders of Israel followed him. 26 And he spake vnto the Congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tentes of these wicked men, and touche nothing of theirs, lest ye perish in all their sinnes. 27 So they gate them away from the Tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram on euerie side: and Dathan, and Abiram came out and stood in the doore of their tentes with their wiues, and their sonnes, and their little children. 28 And Moses saide, Hereby yee shall knowe that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works: for I haue not done them of mine owne minde. 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men, the Lord hath not sent me. 30 But if the Lord make a newe thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallowe them vp with all that they haue, and they goe downe quicke into ye pit, then ye shall vnderstand that these men haue prouoked the Lord. 31 And assoone as he had made an ende of speaking all these wordes, euen the ground claue asunder that was vnder them, 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them vp, with their families, and all the men that were with Korah, and all their goods. 33 So they and all that they had, went down aliue into the pit, and the earth couered them: so they perished from among the Congregation. 34 And all Israel that were about them, fled at the crie of them: for they said, Let vs flee, least the earth swalow vs vp. 35 But there came out a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundreth and fiftie men that offred the incense. 36 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying, 37 Speake vnto Eleazar, the sonne of Aaron the Priest, that he take vp the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire beyond the altar: for they are halowed, 38 The censers, I say, of these sinners, that destroyed themselues: and let them make of them broade plates for a couering of the Altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they shalbe holy, and they shall be a signe vnto the children of Israel. 39 Then Eleazar the Priest tooke the brasen censers, which they, that were burnt, had offred, and made broade plates of them for a couering of the Altar. 40 It is a remembrance vnto the children of Israel, that no stranger which is not of the seede of Aaron, come neere to offer incense before the Lord, that he be not like Korah and his company, as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moses. 41 But on the morowe all the multitude of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye haue killed the people of the Lord. 42 And when the Congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, then they turned their faces toward the Tabernacle of the Congregation: and beholde, the cloude couered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. 43 Then Moses and Aaron were come before the Tabernacle of the Congregation. 44 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying, 45 Get you vp from among this Congregation: for I wil consume them quickly: then they fell vpon their faces. 46 And Moses said vnto Aaron, Take the censer and put fire therein of the Altar, and put therein incense, and goe quickly vnto the Congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord: the plague is begunne. 47 Then Aaron tooke as Moses commanded him, and ranne into the middes of the Congregation, and beholde, the plague was begun among the people, and hee put in incense, and made an atonement for the people. 48 And when hee stoode betweene the dead, and them that were aliue, the plague was stayed. 49 So they died of this plague fourtene thousande and seuen hundreth, beside them that dyed in the conspiracie of Korah. 50 And Aaron went againe vnto Moses before the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and the plague was stayed.
Bishops(i) 1 And Corah the sonne of Isaar, the sonne of Caath, the sonne of Leui, went a part with Dathan and Abiram, the sonnes of Eliab, & On the sonne of Peleth, the sonne of Ruben 2 And they rose vp before Moyses, with certayne of the children of Israel, two hundred & fiftie, which were captaynes of the multitude, famous in the congregation, and men of renoune 3 And they gathered them selues together agaynst Moyses and Aaron, and sayde vnto them: Ye take much vpon you, seyng all the multitude are holy euery one of them, and the Lorde is among them: Why lyft you your selues vp aboue the congregation of the Lord 4 And when Moyses hearde it, he fell vpon his face 5 And spake vnto Corah and vnto all his company, saying: Tomorowe the Lord wyll shewe who are his, who is holy, and who ought to approche nye vnto hym: and whom he hath chosen, he will cause to come neare vnto hym 6 This do therfore: Take you firepannes, both Corah & all his companie 7 And do fire therin, and put incense in them before the Lorde to morowe: And the man whom the Lorde doth chose, the same shalbe holy: Ye take much vpon you ye sonnes of Leui 8 And Moyses sayd vnto Corah: Heare I pray you, ye sonnes of Leui 9 Seemeth it but a small thyng vnto you, that the God of Israel hath seperated you from the multitude of Israel, and brought you to hym selfe, to do the seruice of the tabernacle of the Lorde, and to stande before the multitude, and to minister vnto them 10 He hath taken thee to hym, and all thy brethren the sonnes of Leui with thee: and seeke ye the office of the priest also 11 For which cause both thou and all thy companie are gathered together against the Lorde: And what is Aaron, that ye murmure agaynst hym 12 And Moyses sent, and called Dathan and Abiram the sonnes of Eliab: which sayde, We wyll not come vp 13 Is it a small thyng, that thou hast brought vs out of the land that floweth with mylke and honie, to kyll vs in the wildernesse: except thou make thy selfe lorde and ruler ouer vs also 14 Moreouer, thou hast not brought vs vnto a lande that floweth with mylke & honie, neither geuen vs inheritaunce of fieldes and vineyardes: Wylt thou put out the eyes of these men? We wyll not come vp 15 And Moyses waxed very angry, and sayde vnto the Lorde, Turne not thou vnto their offeryng: I haue not taken so much as an asse from them, neither haue I hurt any of them 16 And Moyses sayde vnto Corah: Be thou & al thy company before the Lord, both thou, they, and Aaron, to morowe 17 And take euery man his censer, and put incense in them, and bryng ye before the Lorde euery man his censer, euen two hundreth and fiftie censers: thou also and Aaron, euery one his censer 18 And they toke euery man his censer, and put fire in them, and layde incense theron, and stoode in the doore of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moyses and Aaron 19 And Corah gathered all the congregation agaynst them, vnto the doore of the tabernacle of the congregation: And the glorie of the Lorde appeared vnto all the congregation 20 And the Lorde spake vnto Moyses and Aaron, saying 21 Seperate your selues from among this congregation, that I may consume them at once 22 And they fell vpon their faces, and sayde: O God, the God of spirites of all fleshe, hath not one man sinned? Wilt thou be wroth with all the multitude 23 And the Lorde spake vnto Moyses, saying 24 Speake vnto the congregation, and say: Get you away from about the tabernacle of Corah, Dathan, & Abiram 25 And Moyses rose vp, and went vnto Dathan and Abiram: and the elders of Israel folowed hym 26 And he spake vnto the congregation, saying: Depart I pray you from the tentes of these wicked men, and touche nothyng of theirs, lest ye perishe in all their sinnes 27 And so they gate them from the tabernacle of Corah, Dathan, and Abiram, on euery syde: And Dathan & Abiram came out, & stoode in the doore of their tentes, with their wiues, their sonnes, and their litle children 28 And Moyses sayde: Hereby ye shall knowe that the Lorde hath sent me to do all these workes, for I haue not done them of myne owne mynde 29 If these men dye the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men, then the Lorde hath not sent me 30 But and if the Lorde make a newe thyng, and the earth open her mouth, and swallowe them vp with all that they haue, and they go downe quicke into the pit: then ye shall vnderstande that these men haue prouoked ye Lorde 31 And assoone as he had made an ende of speaking al these wordes, the ground cloue asunder that was vnder them 32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swalowed them vp, and their houses, and all the men that were with Corah, and all their goodes 33 And they and all that they had went downe alyue vnto the pit, and the earth closed vpon them: and they perished from among the congregation 34 And all Israel that were about them, fled at the crye of them: And they sayde, lest the earth swalowe vs vp also 35 And there came out a fire from the Lorde, and consumed the two hundred and fiftie men that offered incense 36 And the Lorde spake vnto Moyses, saying 37 Speake vnto Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the priest, that he take vp the censers out of the burnyng, and scatter the fire here and there, for they are halowed 38 The censers of these sinners agaynst their owne soules: let them make of them brode plates for a coueryng of the aulter: For they offered them before the Lorde, and therfore they are halowed, and they shalbe a signe vnto the children of Israel 39 And Eleazar the priest toke the brasen censers, which they that were burnt had offered, and made brode plates for a coueryng of the aulter 40 To be a remembraunce vnto the children of Israel, that no straunger which is not of the seede of Aaron, come neare to offer incense before the Lorde, that he be not lyke vnto Corah and his companie, as the Lorde sayde to hym by the hande of Moyses 41 But on the morowe, all the multitude of the children of Israel murmured agaynst Moyses and Aaron, saying: Ye haue kylled the people of the Lorde 42 And whe the multitude was gathered agaynst Moyses and Aaron, they loked towarde the tabernacle of the congregation: And beholde, the cloude couered it, and the glorie of the Lorde appeared 43 And Moyses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation 44 And the Lorde spake vnto Moyses, saying 45 Get you from among this congregation, that I may consume the quickly. And they fell vpon their faces 46 And Moyses sayd vnto Aaron: Take a censer, and put fire therin out of the aulter, and powre on incense, and go quickly vnto the congregation, & make an attonement for them: For there is wrath gone out from the Lorde, and there is a plague begunne 47 And Aaron toke as Moyses comaunded hym, and ranne into the middes of ye congregation: and beholde, the plague was begunne among the people, and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people 48 And whe he stoode betweene the dead and them that were alyue, the plague was stayed 49 They that dyed in the plague, were fourteene thousand and seuen hundred, besyde them that dyed about the conspiracie of Corah 50 And Aaron went againe vnto Moyses before the doore of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the plague was stayed

YLT(i) 1 And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, taketh both Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, 2 and they rise up before Moses, with men of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty, princes of the company, called of the convention, men of name, 3 and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and say unto them, `Enough of you! for all the company--all of them are holy, and in their midst is Jehovah; and wherefore do ye lift yourselves up above the assembly of Jehovah?' 4 And Moses heareth, and falleth on his face, 5 and he speaketh unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, `Morning! --and Jehovah is knowing those who are his, and him who is holy, and hath brought near unto Him; even him whom He doth fix on He bringeth near unto Him. 6 This do: take to yourselves censers, Korah, and all his company, 7 and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he is the holy one; --enough of you, sons of Levi.' 8 And Moses saith unto Korah, `Hear ye, I pray you, sons of Levi; 9 is it little to you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the company of Israel to bring you near unto Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the company to serve them? -- 10 yea, He doth bring thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee--and ye have sought also the priesthood! 11 Therefore, thou and all thy company who are met are against Jehovah; and Aaron, what is he, that ye murmur against him?'
12 And Moses sendeth to call for Dathan and for Abiram sons of Eliab, and they say, `We do not come up; 13 is it little that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in a wilderness that thou also certainly makest thyself prince over us? 14 Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.' 15 And it is very displeasing to Moses, and he saith unto Jehovah, `Turn not Thou unto their present; not one ass from them have I taken, nor have I afflicted one of them.' 16 And Moses saith unto Korah, `Thou and all thy company, be ye before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow; 17 and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.' 18 And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah assembleth against them all the company unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by all the company. 20 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 21 `Be ye separated from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' 22 and they fall on their faces, and say, `God, God of the spirits of all flesh--the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!'
23 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 24 `Speak unto the company, saying, Go ye up from round about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.' 25 And Moses riseth, and goeth unto Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel go after him, 26 and he speaketh unto the company, saying, `Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.' 27 And they go up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from round about, and Dathan, and Abiram have come out, standing at the opening of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants. 28 And Moses saith, `By this ye do know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works, that they are not from my own heart; 29 if according to the death of all men these die--or the charge of all men is charged upon them--Jehovah hath not sent me; 30 and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol--then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.' 31 And it cometh to pass at his finishing speaking all these words, that the ground which is under them cleaveth, 32 and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them, and their houses, and all the men who are for Korah, and all the goods, 33 and they go down, they, and all that they have, alive to Sheol, and the earth closeth over them, and they perish from the midst of the assembly; 34 and all Israel who are round about them have fled at their voice, for they said, `Lest the earth swallow us;'
35 and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume. 36 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 37 `Say unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, and he lifteth up the censers from the midst of the burning, and the fire scatter thou yonder, for they have been hallowed, 38 even the censers of these sinners against their own souls; and they have made them spread-out plates, a covering for the altar, for they have brought them near before Jehovah, and they are hallowed; and they are become a sign to the sons of Israel.' 39 And Eleazar the priest taketh the brazen censers which they who are burnt had brought near, and they spread them out, a covering for the altar-- 40 a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company, --as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.
41 And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur, on the morrow, against Moses and against Aaron, saying, `Ye--ye have put to death the people of Jehovah.' 42 And it cometh to pass, in the company being assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turn towards the tent of meeting, and lo, the cloud hath covered it, and the honour of Jehovah is seen; 43 and Moses cometh--Aaron also--unto the front of the tent of meeting. 44 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 45 `Get you up from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' and they fall on their faces, 46 and Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take the censer, and put on it fire from off the altar, and place perfume, and go, hasten unto the company, and make atonement for them, for the wrath hath gone out from the presence of Jehovah--the plague hath begun.' 47 And Aaron taketh as Moses hath spoken, and runneth unto the midst of the assembly, and lo, the plague hath begun among the people; and he giveth the perfume, and maketh atonement for the people, 48 and standeth between the dead and the living, and the plague is restrained; 49 and those who die by the plague are fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who die for the matter of Korah; 50 and Aaron turneth back unto Moses, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the plague hath been restrained.
ASV(i) 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: 2 and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown; 3 and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and Jehovah is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the assembly of Jehovah? 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face: 5 and he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, In the morning Jehovah will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he shall choose will he cause to come near unto him. 6 This do: take you censers, Korah, and all his company; 7 and put fire in them, and put incense upon them before Jehovah to-morrow: and it shall be that the man whom Jehovah doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear now, ye sons of Levi: 9 seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them; 10 and that he hath brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee? and seek ye the priesthood also? 11 Therefore thou and all thy company are gathered together against Jehovah: and Aaron, what is he that ye murmur against him? 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said, We will not come up: 13 is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but thou must needs make thyself also a prince over us? 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up. 15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto Jehovah, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them. 16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow: 17 and take ye every man his censer, and put incense upon them, and bring ye before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each his censer. 18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood at the door of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah assembled all the congregation against them unto the door of the tent of meeting: and the glory of Jehovah appeared unto all the congregation. 20 And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. 22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation? 23 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. 25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. 26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. 27 So they gat them up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones. 28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then Jehovah hath not sent me. 30 But if Jehovah make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down alive into Sheol; then ye shall understand that these men have despised Jehovah. 31 And it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them; 32 and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33 So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol: and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly. 34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them; for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. 35 And fire came forth from Jehovah, and devoured the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense. 36 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are holy, 38 even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel. 39 And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar, 40 to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger, that is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to burn incense before Jehovah; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as Jehovah spake unto him by Moses. 41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of Jehovah. 42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared. 43 And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting. 44 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. 46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take they censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and lay incense thereon, and carry it quickly unto the congregation, and make atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah; the plague is begun. 47 And Aaron took as Moses spake, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. 48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. 49 Now they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korah. 50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tent of meeting: and the plague was stayed.
